That mayor is in need of a steel coffin. But yes this has been a thing for a long time in DF. Beds can only be made from wood unless you get lucky with an artifact.

I've never seen that as a bug, personally. It's just unreasonable demands from your mayor. And like @severe forum said, it's technically possible to get one but not likely.

Yup, just had a request for an iron bed. Old bug but should probably be remedied.
