I don't know what you mean by greyed out.
Is Mu in Circuitpython mode ? If you click on "serial" and in the serial panel hit ctrl-D, do you see the code restart ?

oops i entered the repl somehow but i guess that's a good sign. I just don't know how to get out of it

#

anyway, yes it's in cp mode. when i try to load a file from the lib folder on the circuitpy drive, they all appear grey and you can't select anything to load.

ctrl-D restarts the code

#

ctrl-C stops it

#

in Mu you open code.py, edit it, and save

Anything that's not a folder or a *.py file will be greyed out.

ok it's all.mpy files in the animation library

yeah, you don't need to open them, what are you trying to do ?

I'm just trying to run the simplest blink led test

yes and i just copied it and pasted it from the link and it worked this time. i'm glad but it's exasperating and embarassing since I swear i've done it thousands of times by now haha! one thing i see different is that the comment"write your code here" is not there.

maybe the file was in the wrong place ?

#

looking at the REPL should tell what's going on, whether it's an error or it shows that nothing is run. Adding prints in the code (like print("doing this or that")) helps to know if the code is run, or reaches certain points

it would alwayssay syntax error line 8

well, it's gone now !
