#@hex board pin removal

which pin are you trying to remove?
just pull the plastic off the bottom pins with pliers. It doesn't serve a lot of function, does it?
the normal way to solder this is to put the black plastic between the kb2040 and the carrier board, and solder the top of the kb2040 and the bottom of the carrier board, not the top of the carrier board
Yes I'm aware I made a bit of a mistake while doing it
They are not coming off easy
then put your soldering iron on the top of the reset pin and push downwards, waiting to melt the solderalong the pin. You should be able to push the pin down to be flush with the top of the kb2040. Or, after you take the plastic off, just grab the RST pin with pliers, and heat from the top. Pull and as the solder melts you should be able to pull it out
take a picture of the "flush cutter" you mentioned
you should be able to cut the plastic with a knife. You only need to cut it on either side of the RST pin and then grab what's left, and pull it up with needle-nose pliers
Alright I dislodged most of the plastic
ok, now try heating and pushing down on the pin. You can put the board on two raised thingsso there is space for the pin to be pushed down, so you can push straight down. Or just heat the top and grab from the bttom. Do you have pliers to do that?
or heat from the side, the heat will have less distance to travel
Yeah I tried heating it for a while and pushing down while it was suspended and I just could not get it to move. I do have some pliers, but I'm afraid of the pin breaking and it making the job harder.
Here's a photo of the bottom of it
with as much plastic as I could get off
the pin will not break if you pull straight. It will come out easily when the solder melts. don't try to force it
did you try the pushing?
Yes I was pushing with the iron
did you see both blobs of solder melt?
I did
Oh
well
I wasn't able to see
Sadly my house's lighting is very poor
I'll actually go see if I can get a better light in here
YES
Yes I did see both blobs of solder melt
are the holes really tight? You could try pushing from the bottom instead of the top
I'll give that a go
yeah still same result
it's not budging
I think I might stop it here for tonight and I'll revisit this tomorrow morning
can you take it in to school to a lab?
It'd be a lot easier if I could do it there, but this is a high school and my club room is really the only one with the equipment for this.
But, school has been cancelled for a few days now
because of the snow in New England
neat
good night - think about whether there's any other place in the school, like a metal shop, with possible tools. Ask you teacher if you think they are handy mechanically.
Will do, thanks for all the help and good night
I ended up getting some help from my club advisor after school today and it's been removed!
how did you two do it?
