say which python and which python3 and which circup on the command line, what do they say?
also, create a new Terminal and try the circup command there, if you have not already done so. That will make sure you pick up the new PATH settings.
yes I did both of these things. I have gotten a message to add a directory to PATH, once again, not a clue how to do this. I hope you understand the incredible frustration I have not being able to put a few pieces of code on a board. I would assume with all these smart people someone would have written a script to do that but instead I am banging my head against conflicting directions. I do NOT spend a lot of time on the internet other than to publish my music so running into this stuff makes me crazy. Sorry if I offended you. I had no idea how to navigate messages
ok, your Air is better, let's try that.
what is the message you got about adding a directory to PATH? DId you get that after installing python via brew
Thanks. No I was trying to do a reinstall of circup on the iMac at the root level. Somewhere in the past weeks I read an article about how to install circup and it had a command that I think is what you meant about a venv:
. esp32-env/bin/activate
bbut I think thats where circup got deposited
again. Haven't gone near command line for 3 decades
As an aside, the ESP32 Pico is a lot more trouble than, say, an ESP32-S3 board, because it does not have full USB, and cannot present a disk drive. So it's more trouble, and you have to do more work.
anyway
so if you do python3 --version, it says 3.13?
Thanks for the tip. I might just go back and order that board. Let go look at the Air, again thanks.
if you do buy an ESP32-S3, get one with 8MB flash for now, but you can ask about that later
btw, this is an unofficial support mechanism, as opposed to the forums
just did it again, I said he** instead of heck when I said ur easier than the cat guy
Python 3.13.0 (v3.13.0:60403a5409f, Oct 7 2024, 00:37:40) [Clang 15.0.0 (clang-1500.3.9.4)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
ok do, pip3 uninstall circup, then do pip3 install circup
to make sure it installs a compatible version
got a message new version of pip is available after i did the circup install
BTW there are about a dozen ESP32-S# boards
our boards?
The Arduino-shaped one, Metro ESP32-S3, has the most flash and RAm
it might be out of stock
no, it's in stock
yes, I needed small. My project involved a hand mounted unit with as little weight and mass as possible. The battery takes up more than I wnted but I needed it for the WiFi/BLE
does it have to have wifi and BLE?
or just BLE
do you need an onboard display?
which board did you get before? Not an adafruit board, right?
Just Bluetooth. There are half a dozen iPhone/iPad apps that will do what I want. WiFi just is more complex because I have to keep changing the WiFi creds
the Feather boards have a battery connector and built-in battery charging. is that desirable?
Nope, just send streaming data. About 4 samples a second on a 9DoF sensor. The real work gets donein my Excel/Numbers docs
what's an example of an app that receives that data? which 9dof sensor are you using? Why is battery charging not desirable?
how were you connecting the 9dof to the microcontroller board
what battery are you using?
Nope was for the WiFi. I bought the charger board thats has the 2 connectors but I would just pull the battery when it needs to be charged
Adafruit LSM6DSOX + LIS3MDL - Precision 9 DoF IMU - STEMMA QT / Qwiic
500mAh
the USB LiIon/LiPoly charger - v1.2
ok, this is BLE, has a built-in charger, has a STEMMA/QT connector, plus on-off switch: https://www.adafruit.com/product/5217
so you can dispense with the charger, and put it all in a box with the 9dof
does NOT have wifi
does have regular full USB, will present a CIRCUITPY drive
Adafruit LiIon or LiPoly Charger BFF Add-On for QT Py
darn, now yu tell me!!!
includes 9dof on board, includes charger, BLE only
has gesture sensor has sound sensor and various other things
so no extra boards needed, just the battery
we have 3D-printing case designs for this standard Feather size
that sounds like a great all-in-one solution for you
#%$@%$ you guys are killing me! I should have spent more time researching but I had someone breathing down my neck to get a prototype put together.
#Dprinting case designs?
3D
i would say order that, wait, forget about struggling with the Pico ESP32, which you bought elsewhere, right?
Nope, everything was from you guys including a metro mini which I used to develop the sensor code.
which was the Pico ESP32, then? not sure what you mean. QT Py ESP32??
you know you're going to make me go slit my wrists.....
to be experienced, you have to make mistakes
Adafruit QT Py ESP32 Pico - WiFi Dev Board with STEMMA QT - 8MB Flash 2MB PSRAM
at 75 I've made one or two ๐
hey, can I get an annoying customer discount????
there are discount codes every wednesday night for Ask an Engineer, and sometimes other sales too
during other shows
Was gonna buy one today
it's 10% usually
shipping cutoff is 11am ET

do what you gotta do.I think its time to stop banging my head and order one tomorrow. You realize you are now my goto guy! Again, THANKS for the patience for a grumpy old guy!
we do have so many products
and now someone who gives me realtime answers
you're welcome, btw i am 67, so don't think I'm some whippersnapper
no worries, you can relate the. I really do appreciate the help. I'm gonna stretch my budget and order one tomorrow
