SERIOUS QUESTION would you rather have the latest PI 5 or 75 kilos of oranges
This stems from a conversation i had with ihavenofish from last week
Simple but important personal project question: What are the best ways to neatly mount an LED on the top of a project box with board inside? (pic for general notion)
often the box has a hole to let the LED light through, or a window, or the LED is pushed into a hole from the inside, instead of physically mounting the LED on top (unless it is in some kind of holder). Otherwise you want to put long enough leads on it so you can remove the top of the box or the board with ease.
might want to asked in #help-with-projects
I'm not dealing with a specific project box. It is a simple cardboard box. There are no holes except those I create.
Ok.
if this is a casual project, then if the LED is large enough, could push it through from the inside and use hot glue to hold it in place. If on top, also use a dot of hot glue to hold it in place. you can make small holes for the leads (maybe with the leads themselves.
It's certainly casual, but I'm still trying to learn how to make a pretty project. I've tried cutting a slit to put only the leads through tothe board below, but I end up with a lot of LED above the cardboard. I tried pushing the LED through a hole, but it's hard to line this up straight and to avoid tabs of the cut/punched cardboard sticking up. Excuse me if I'm being a perfectionist, I just figure some have done this more times than me.
you could bring this up again in #help-with-projects. This is particularly for asking a question on the Ask An Engineer video show tomorrow.
if you want multiple eyes on the question, #help-with-projects is good
