kind of hoped you'd expand on the info in the message from just what you DM'ed me. It sounds like you might be running mosquitto (mqtt server) on the pi in a terminal but not running it as a service (so closes when terminal does), and/or firewall ports not open, look for more info on those topics.
What do you mean by when they touch each other? The m4 airlifts? or did you mention some flex sensors/resistors? Either way I don't understand how they can sense that they are close to each other (and not some other "thing")
