Yep, makes sense - I just swapped the gearbox and it isn't that. I was hoping to avoid re-soldering, but hey ho, let's go.

It's annoying, but it's a good way to narrow down where a problem lies. Divide and conquer, basically.

swapped the driver from the bad to the good, exact same thing happened

so seems like a duff driver, will see if SMC will give me a replacement

oof I did a wire typo, swapped white and red back to where they should be and it works 😅

now to re-attach the "broken" driver in case I did that first time around lol (sorry for keeping a diary)
