I do have the "maximize compatibility" setting selected in the Wi-Fi Hotspots Setting in iOS 16.

@signal gull You have to leave your phone on the Personal Hotspot settings page, or you have to turn on the HotSpot in the Control Center. If you change the settings, but then go back somewhere else, then the hotspot will not stay on

It says that on the Personal Hotspot settings page in gray letters in the middle of the settings page

I successfully connected to the SSID my phone chose, spaces and all, but only if I did the above.
