Feel free to use this thread for asking for any questions relating to Hacktoberfest, including general questions. While it may be easier to communicate in the specific issues your working on, this is intended a be another space for getting more general help. No need to tag anyone - we'll get back as soon as we can!
Hacktoberfest Intro steram going live in 30 minutes! Just making sure this chat shows up clearly in the list π
Hey guys I'm new to coding, I started around the end of August in CircuitPython. Also this is my first Hacktober so not really sure how it works but I would love to contribute. Do I need to claim an issue before doing it? I was thinking of doing the I2C PR.
I don't think so @grave summit it's first fixed first served. π Fix what you can. All issues tagged with Hacktoberfest are good ones to tackle.
@grave summit If you want to write a comment in the issue letting people know you've got it covered, it might help others know, but it isn't required - you can just submit a pull request for it as well π
I'll have a video up this weekend with some of the basics, as well
Its a race!!!
Sounds good, Thanks really excited to get involved and learn more about coding!
Commenting on the GitHub issue is a way to reserve it I guess. Maybe leave a #hacktober hashtag on it. Everyone around here is really nice and plays well together. If you want to claim an issue that might actually help prevent simultaneous work from happening. Keep in mind if a developer needs to swoop in and fix something because itβs affecting something else I could see that happening but they usually live pretty deep. Usability bugs are lower hanging fruit vs fatal bugs the devs handle.
Yeah, when I was looking through the First Good Issues, there were maybe only a couple that were like that. And they weren't for super popular libraries so it's not something you should stress about. As far as I remember none of them are an All Hands On Deck issues, at least for the libraries. The core, I have no idea π
Thanks guys for all your help. I did get the impression that this is a great community and that everyone is really nice. which is why i wanted to make sure i don't step on anyone's toes by accident. It wouldn't bother me if it was taken over especially if it was a fatal bug but exactly be better if people are not working on the same thing. I'm just excited to be a part of this! π€©

I've been popping into their #chill-tunes channel, which plays great lo-fi music that I've found really fantastic for developing. It's mute-only other than the bot, so no worries about any chatter.
Neat - I'm in the Discord, will check out the music
They want your email address and phone number before you're allowed to use voice in there anyway. Give my phone number that I use for 2FA to a channel called Hacktoberfest... nah I'm good.
