I don't think anyone is gonna eat mosquitoes
Some people might lol
Crazy people, lol
I never ate then, it is disgusting.
I respect these people.Oh... Let me tell you, I remember! There is a rain season in small cities in my state that people collect a bug called "Tanajura" and they ate them. A colleague offered me when I was a kid, I think ,but I could not eat it because it looked disgusting.I'll never eat this thing. Ever.
Ew
I have a slight bug phobia
When they’re alive that is
If they are dead not a problem
Or if they are contained where there is distance between me and them or they can’t fly at me or hurt me
I flinch at the slightest buzzing of wings if something is flying around my head
I took out the photo because those insects were giving me freaks.
Some animals and pets eat bugs (idk if this has been mentioned before)
I mean, yeah, people do eat bugs... But now all kinds and all of them
My mother ate it a long time ago, she told me now that it tastes like peanut. She doesn't eat it anymore.
I mean the latter - the key for the up arrow on the keyboard
esp now is so crazy easy to use
i setup a mesh of three esp32's in 60 min with very little code the setup a struct with 3 players data and a map buffer for each player.
It took my tired brain a good 10 seconds to realize I was in Target and not online, and that Adafruit hadn’t started selling window box fans IRL 🤣
I love my raspberry pi portable screen w case
I got a Pi-Top [4] and haven't done anything with it yet... partly because of the weird power requirements
He built an oscilloscope at 12 years old! Watch Nick's story. See more stories at https://www.tek.com/stories
I zapped myself with 440VAC for the first time when I was 12 >~>
It looks like a Google Science Fair's project. This boy should subscribe.
@delicate stream I got Ubuntu-mate working on it, with VS-Code and miniconda
On your portable Pi? Nice
@delicate stream yeah it crashes on big datasets but I reduced my dataset to program the logic which is fine
Gotta keep projects small for Pi XD
Well they gave me an algorithm dataset of 10,000 rows and it crashes the pi
oop
So I reduced it to 100 rows just to program
I need to actually do stuff with things
I zapped myself with 250VAC at the age of about 11, doing some... unauthorised rewiring of a fan while it was still plugged in [Do not do this at home]
Lol, 440 is like... twice as bad. But all bad
Oh yeah definitely
And yes, do not do unauthorized rewiring of fans
Does anyone know how to install Google play store on raspberry pi?
discord working on pi
it might be possible with box86
in the end, doesn't seem too impossible to have discord on a raspberry pi
https://github.com/atlx/discord-term <-- there is this, which may be possible to run with box86
Native app or bust
I know, but you know what I mean XD
I mean, a lot of apps I use nowadays are browser based
Makes it easier to switch computers
ok @wild temple, I have to comment on the fact that you have a smooth breathing mark on the epsilon
ancient greek aficionado?
no, i just copied it
ah got it 🙂 I took ancient greek in college and loved it
but i know it is related to cupid
(oopsie, why did I say rough when I meant smooth lol)
i don't know
i don't know greek at all
for all i know, it could be saying "lettuce"
but i took it from somewhere that wouldn't have such weird "things"
I used “Pi-Apps” scripts to get it working
and it works?
yeah
thats a lot of isa's
There's only one ISA. 😛
Fire up your i740s, boys!!! 😛
lol
Seriously, where did you get that?!
Found it on another Discord.
Ohhh, so you don't have that device...
I think that might be from one of my favorite tech joke channels
Ah, yes, it is his doing, I thought I recognized it, lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmcZsQXOKEA

He must have tweeted a pic or something
😄
I wish I could make crazy fakes like those. It's super impressive how they look like real cards, fans spin, things light up..
It's similar to building movie props: it just has to look good, which often boils down to exactly that: some motion from spinning fans, a few LEDs, etc.
He has a lot of fine detail, too -- those look like he sent off to have a PCB made and then soldered the parts on
But yeah, def like movie props, it's all about the impression, no matter how much is being held together with paperclips, gum, and hopes and dreams in the background
Oh, I've been known to have custom PCBs made and populate them to make movie props (and I'll do it again)
Think, McFly.. Think!
That's a little different, still actually a real working thing XD I mean, aside from time travel
[assuming it's all just for show]
La la la...
Mmmm
I'm trying to design what I think Loki's scepter would look like if it were made with Stark tech
Awesome! I did a last minute Loki cosplay for a local theater, and whomped up a completely random sceptre. It looked neat, and most people liked it, but some folks were unhappy it was completely wrong.
I went down into the basement and took a pic so you can see it. The orb can light up with a constellation of LED lights, but I didn't put batteries in it for the pic. Handle is a pool noodle with a PVC pipe in it for additional rigidness. Angular piece is just foam board spray painted silver. The paint partially dissolved the foam, which gave an unintentional rough look to it that I find appealing.
Oh, I do have a pic of it lit
I've got glass bits I'm going to use to make a glowy bit, NeoPixels to animate it... Only have a couple days left DX
I know that feel. That sceptre was thrown together in a few hours. The flux capacitor was a one-day build. The time circuits, however, were an on-and-off project for years.
I also need to print up some gauntlets... I was originally just gonna be Iron Man, but decided a Loki variant would be more topical and easier, since it isn't a full suit
Probably just gonna have an Arc Reactor chest piece, gauntlets, maybe thruster boots, mask/crown, and scepter
Scepter... Sceptre....
I like it! I made an Arc Reactor out of a stick on LED light and a needle holder once.
Check out these instant gauntlets 🙂
That was a last minute hack. Now I'm making more authentic ones.
Noice
Like many costumers, I have a real fondness for PVC pipe.
Is there anything you can't do with PVC?
While it seems like it would be great for a weatherproof antenna housing, it turns out PVC tends to absorb RF energy.
oop
Hmmm.... Remotes into my main workstation from a laptop (first time ever remoting into that machine) and iCUE apparently stops working when you remote in
Drew this 7 years ago
birb
I couldn't draw that well if you gave me 7 years!
Who has 2 thumbs, nearly failed art class but did great at tech/shop?
This guy! 👎 👍
Can NOT draw on paper
What I can draw, is a card when playing "Go Fish" with my kids
I should say... I can't draw freehand stuff like that. I do like doing basically diagram art -- like taking a PCB design stencil and drawing patterns of nonsense circuits
Or complex geometric shapes and such with a ruler and/or compass and/or protractor
Yeah, I’m not sure I can draw that again
I can free hand copy images decently
I do this for my son when he wants a picture of a character and I don’t want to waste printer ink
Did this for my daughter
D'aww
Her version of coloring at the time was a few pen strokes lol
Hehe
Kind of disappointed, I ordered another reel of sk6812mini from where i ordered before and they are just taking their sweet time to ship it.
they've got 2 business days left to ship according to Aliexpress so i'll probably end up getting my money back. I even paid extra for UPS shipping 😛
Oof
Well, money back is good
But the best is when they ship a replacement and the other one shows up later XD
I have a feeling they don’t have the parts and are scrambling to find them
Possibly...
Printing out a spring box I found on ThingiVerse
I tried it a few months ago with wood PLA but the wood PLA was a bit brittle and it didn’t work
Spring box?
It’s a box with a spring loaded lid
This is my Print in place spring loaded box design! No supports, no assembly, just print and use! See it in action here: https://youtu.be/IrT1DaSBeQ4
All clearances are 0.3mm or greater, so most household 3d-printers should have no problems printing it. however, if you suspect you might need a little tuning, I did include a test piece to tune yo...
Maybe
I might try it
Impressive
Thanks 🙂
Queue up the "Fire at Will" GIFs! 🙂
My dyslexic brain read “Live Prong and Losper”
i love the idea of prop making and want to get into it
Like if Loki stole the iron man armour?
saaame
More like if Asgard had a queen, who then fell in love with Howard Stark, who brought him to Asgard with her, he starts developing tech like what Tony did in the MCU to mix Asgardian magic/tech and human technology, then they find Loki and raise him to use that magic/tech combo, and he makes Iron Man like things. But also I'mma have cat ears because I am cat
I just bought 7 yards of fabric
I am supposed to be photographing Asgardian / Valkyrie mermaids soon.
Noice
Neat! And the cat ears are a mood
Meow meow
I'm doing this: https://learn.adafruit.com/macropad-2fa-totp-authentication-friend but sending the time over USB serial so I don't need an RTC
I was originally going to do it over midi, but then I went to the store and bought a brain lol
Time over MIDI? XD
Sounds like something MIDI wasn't meant for, lol
No joke
If you lose your mind again, certainly sounds interesting... I like weird, "wrong" implementations of things
🙂
I've thought about trying to make physical audio storage by converting data into sound and storing it on something like a record XD
🧠 🐡 (mind blown)
This is how data lives forever
I've heard of those. Opinions are mixed, so I'm waiting for a coupon or one to show up on Craigslist at a discount price before getting one!
Nah, the chip shortage is really affecting the supply of 'em, ya just gotta get them when they're on the shelves
Pretty sure TP is a safer and more sound investment! 😉
Did you win? :O
yes and no
lol
i did really great in 1v1s but not so much teams
Teams just drag you down :P
nah i would get swaped lol
it also didn;t help that I was using a pump action marker and everyone else had semi-auto
Ha, I didn't know that was a thing
yep! they can be fun
but they are slowwww
also if ur wondering, getting hit doesn't really hurt
I kinda want to go paintballing, but I'm afraid I'll end up hurting myself [and not from the paintballs]
Last time I did Laser Tag I was sore for a few days and walked with a limp >~>
oh, thats not good
Sadly, I am old, and get a bit carried away
😦
Same
For me, getting hit with a paintball really hurt. I had welts for days. Now I just call it "painball"
But that comes with fatherhood
Yup

Concept: RP2040+Stemma QT+ESP32 on a breakout board with USB-C = Stemafi-ify anything!(stemmafi = stemma qt wifi)
For lack of anything to do, I'll configure my macropad to have KiCad hotkeys and I'll give Stemmafi a shot(now not sure if I can call it that because Stemma QT is an Adafruit thing)
RP2040 for heavy lifting and ESP32 for communications? Could be fun

Yes
Ok, carry on
.... my uSD card for my baby printer lost everything after 2019
Uh oh
Time to try Recuva
I just... have no idea what happened
Like, a few directories just poof
Normally when I see cards fail it's a total failure
Yeah, partial failure is odd
Just... Gone
Very concerned that the card is dying, as this printer is INSANELY picky...
So there's a weird file I can't delete, taking about 1.3GB of space... even the DEL command says it couldn't find it
MacOS doesn't even see it
Weeeird
Very
I saw a weird MicroSD failure in a Pi - I can only mount it with other Pis.
I don’t trust the things. Too small.
The other really weird thing is that as I started deleting things, more things showed up in recovery
I am trying to install ARM electron
I got electron installed but I can’t install nativefier
What's ARM electron?
electronjs
a UI programming front end language for native UI apps that are cross platform including ARM chips
Build cross-platform desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
ah
it runs discord, messenger, and VS-code
facebook messenger
some of the most popular apps there is
Oh, that Electron... I didn't realize it was ARM related, lol
well I can't get netbeans running on the pi
so it's the only way I know of to make UI's
yeah I dont know ASP.NET
and I don't care because I have such a bad taste in my mouth from those people
ok so I got an .rpm file but that only works in redhat I am guess?
I only learned ASP.NET because I grew up with C/C++, so when I went to school, and it was all C# stuff, there didn't seem to be much choice. Just haven't spent the time to learn the new stuff, even tho it's better in ways
I do indeed think .rpm is redhat only
is raspberry 4 arm7hl or arm64
You can unpack an .rpm file and get at the files if you wish. I usually use the rpm2cpio tool and then unpack with cpio, but there are other options.
trying to get this electron template UI working on the pi
i got it working
this is awesome I just can't use my touchscreen to use it
Ohhh fancy
I don't think I could handle it XD but it is good money
At this point, I would copy everything off and reformat
If that doesn't work I would pull out diskpart lol
Did exactly that. I just wanted to see if I could recover the disappeared files
Just poll the internal temperature
Ohhh, I didn't know you could do that on those chips
Yeah, microcontroller.cpu.temperature or something like that
Noice
With our new CP Sapling, there is a world of possibilities that you can explore with the SAMD21 microcontroller. And thanks to the hard work of Adafruit, there is a ton of great examples that can be used to explore microcontroller functionality and make a
Maybe I'll do that XD
Last night I discovered ironing in Cura, and am abandoning 3.4.1 for the baby printer because of it
Lol
I just wish I could get the glassy look on both sides
Print two half-thinckness pieces and stick them together with superglue 😉
I wish I could get the glassy look on both sides without printing two half pieces and glueing them together :P
But I might actually do that for an awesome coin look
if parts are complex id add 1.75 holes so you can easily align em
Or at least some aligning geometry, if you're making your own 3d models.
Just discs for tokens/coins
Gonna make money for D&D, I think it'll help everyone keep track of funds instead of just writing them down. Plus more immersive!
How much of that money comes from JavaScript itself vs. keeping up with all the (ignoring backend/node for now) UI frameworks? My impression was that being a js developer is basically a journey in which one spends a few minutes in one framework before moving to the next
I imagine that after one or two frameworks they start to look the same, so it's probably not total whiplash
I thought about getting a resin printer to make some really nice figurines or textured coins, but then I realized I wouldn't use it all that often
Lol

When I make an eletronic engineering presentation and there is a bug it is similar to this video.
I think it is natural for human being biology to do this.
Like "hiding" mistakes.
Sometimes I say that clearly there is a bug,it depends on the situation, I know a person that do this too.
I can’t answer that question nobody pays me to develop software between my classes, and landscaping I don’t have the time rn. But JavaScript is totally worth it to learn
I learned javascript but loathe it and strongly prefer other languages.
@late fulcrum you have to use it there is no other language that is readable on all platforms “ECMA” script European Computer Manufacturers Association.
Pfft, that's errant nonsense. For cross platform use, I normally turn to bash, Python, or Java.
At least windows knows bash now
Python is slow, and java is slow also
JavaScript is fast like C++ but it’s not multithreaded
Cython hehe
Java is a compiled language, and is fast like C++. Javascript is an interpreted language, and is, of course, slower.
More nonsense. I'm out. Bye.
It only took 2 years, but I finally wired up the NeoPixels for my Arc Reactor
I was doing some practice tests recently and after implementing my solution in C++, decided to compare its performance in other languages - JavaScript, ES6, and Java. This is problem #35 from Project Euler web site: The number, 197, is called a circular prime because all rotations of the digits: 197
what's not to like about a language that was designed in 10 days and released so that something worse wouldn't become the standard?
"performance in languages" is not a coherent concept
there are very performant JS runtimes, just as there would be very performant Foo runtimes for any language Foo that had that amount of market share
Facebook created an extremely performant PHP VM so that they wouldn't have to rewrite their entire codebase. Then they designed a language that was basically Java but was also backward compatible with ordinary PHP
Let’s just break this down into logical statements. 1. Java outperforms JavaScript in GPU programming [T/F]? 2. O [n] time complexity is incoherent when looking at the same algorithm in different languages [T/F]. Ok…
- performance is a property of the program + runtime pair, not just the language
- not sure what you're asking
places punch cards on table
shrugs I just say what I was taught from doctors in computer science what do I know
I was taught C#/ASP.NET was the way to go and what the industry loved
I'm sure you're saying something coherent and true, with implicit context that I don't have. I probably shouldn't have been so normative above when I stated "X is not a coherent concept," it's perhaps more that "I don't have the implicit context necessary to understand that statement"
You can do graphics in anything if you're crazy enough
From what I have been told [Dr. zhang@Winston-Salem Stste] for stand-alone runtime C++ is the GPU programming language. For anything that is not a standalone app do not use java or C# use webGL with Maya that what’s I was told
WebGL is JavaScript
That would still be a matter of opinion though
The article I linked surmised with the build times witth what she was saying it happened to coincide
With the O[n] time derivatives
I went to NC A&T and I could find plenty of professors with opinions otherwise.
And performance is heavily based on the system something is running on
I went to NC A&T too but I didn’t study computer science I was at JSNN and I bombed it hehe
Another factor to consider is that JS is very resource heavy
Discord is written in Js
It often requires a much higher resource load than other languages
And discord uses a lot of memory
Microsoft teams, slack, and
I often have to close my discord desktop apps because they use a lot of resources
How much ram you have?
16GB
Which is more than fine
Discord surprisingly uses more RAM than chrome
Gmail web client uses significant amounts of RAM
A single gmail web page can use as much as 1GB even idle
Whereas local mail clients performing the same tasks use significantly less
Facebook is a php monolith
Dang, discord bot won’t let me insult the Facebook stack
and the developers who write in PhP make a lot of money because no one wants to use the language
I can do it
I learned my first web Class that’s all I learned was XAMPP
But yeah JavaScript is a neccesary evil to do DOM scripting
Yeah, JavaScript is useful but it is process and resource intensive. That’s why datacenters are expanding so much
Also Facebook makes a lot money leasing the infrastructure it built to speed up traffic
Like.. they own a huge chunk of the fiber backbone of the US
Wow
They also own the fastest fiber corridor in the US
One guy from Winston-salem state got hired as facebooks North American salesperson
As their sales director
Nice
And T-Mobile and the bank employees
That’s all JavaScript and python
All the banks use JavaScript
I just don’t like react that much I really like electronjs
I have to learn react more
Like webworker and all that stuff
You’d be surprised that a lot of banks still use heavy C++/Java programming
I say this from experience
COBOL
Most banks are using more robust backends that use Java, C#, and C++
Wells Fargo uses python
And that backend work is actually a bulk of the work done
That’s why Wells Fargo’s banking services are slow 🤣
Hehe
I have a loan through Wells Fargo and their apps and website are horrendous
Not user friendly at all
The second you memorize where something is, they move it
I hate Wells Fargo
MS BASIC web server
Now I am going to try to combine a react app with electronjs for standalone react app
Lol I had ram problems installing
It’s on the pi hehe
it won't work on the pi though
i need to wrangle it more
i gotta get node to update
trying again
looks like I will have to get it on the main comp, I am sure the apps will run on the pi but actually building them on the pi is very difficult
gona try wrangling some more
can't' get box x86 or box x64 compiling from source and I am not sure why
Got it working
The react in electron
Native App! Now I just need to control IO with it
I was thinking: credit cards from banks should automatically generate an electronic spreedsheet(Excel) with everything that you bought, separating months, weeks, year, or even category, etc. It would make things so much easier.
you canget ank statements
Some even do CSV exports
PNC does
Need better diffusion! GET ME MORE MILK JUGS STAT
ping pong ball
Today i managed to setup a sever using esp now,
and a player 1 and player 2 game client for each player.
the one client is using composite out to a tv
the other one has a lcd.
right now the 3 different player input options are.
1 usb otg using a max3xxx host chip.
2. bluetooth android gamepad.
3. the pins for my input board.
the server is now starting to get the game logic and a SD card has given the server 2GB of texture, sound and data storage.
Each esp is being flashed with not ota or spiffs to make as much resources open to each device.
i'm nearly done with the textures and sounds
so construction of the game server is going fast now.
For LED diffusion, I'm fond of the Lee filters "Zircon" line of plastic diffusion sheet materials.
Oh yes, there are certainly good options out there... but this is "I need this done TONIGHT, what do I have on hand?!" cosplay
Parchment paper, waxed paper, or fabric often can help
Ah, parchment or wax paper would have been easier... I cut 4 layers of milk jug
I haven't sealed it, lemme try parchment paper...
So I learned some stuff last night
About ARM emulators to x86 and x64 and how it selects weird GCC from source to compile binaries
I got the x64 emulator working still working on x86 emulator
Ohhh yeah, some parchment paper is WAY better than 4 milk jug bits and isn't as thick
if you can't afford/find any of that, try ducttape
for people who can't find "weird" stuff, like me, there's ducttapes that aren't clear
and they are easier to find
if you don't have any other use for that paper (like me, who doesn't cook), this can also be an option
Lol, I have plenty of parchment paper
i have none, and have no use for it
lol
Is it weird that I'm using a pair of antistatic tweezers as wire strippers?
if they work, no
I used to strip that old bell wiring with my fingernail.
I can do it with my nails too, but the tweezers are faster
You don't use your teeth??
WUT?
*partition?
I was stripping some phone wiring with my teeth while fixing the wiring at someone else's house, and the phone rang while I was doing that. I have a small notch in my tooth from that.
oof
i swear i once saw a guy get a custom tooth for wire stripping (as like, a denture) but i can't find it
that sounds like a great way to "strip" your cheek or tongue or lips
I have flat spots on two teeth, from years of opening beer bottles. 😂
this one?

mythbuster busted
Let's see, what do I have in my box of random keycaps?
You have plain ones? Ruined
swap files have been used more and more instead of swap partitions.
it is a lot easier to change the size of a swap file than a swap partition.
ubuntu, for example, uses swap files by default: https://askubuntu.com/a/1234843
(cant find a better reference)
a paws button
i have lots of plain ones, i prefer the look to some of the custom symbols on some of the set I used for my keeb
Boop
Me: spends one whole day at the office wearing a mask all day
My nose: (read as Korg) “yeah mate, we’re just gonna have bad allergies today. Okay?”
Lol. Nothing wrong with plain ones, I just wanted to give him a hard time :P
Beep boop?
If you can get an N95 grade mask, it really helps with allergies and pollution! Not 100%, but better than without -- the surgical style mask just lets all those allergens in easy
I printed my own with an adapter to use the same HEPA filter as my CPAP [~N95 protection]
I have a double layer cloth mask
I rarely ever go to the office, I just had to put some time in the lab so unfortunately I spent most of my day behind a mask
My place of work just said that everyone has to wear a mask inside regardless of vaccine status
Thank you for introducing me to calling it a keeb. I enjoy that very much.
Seems relevant to mention https://microclimate.com/pages/detail-1 exists
AIR™ is a new wearable that creates a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for the individual. The device also protects surrounding bystanders from the person wearing the device. An innovative face mask for public use. AIR™ filters pathogens, pollen, dust, dander, mold, fungi and other irritants.
I know someone who is really into keebs that uses it a lot
I thought that said “McClimate”
I bought this book for my sister, it is intedeed for 1th to 5th graders. It is from the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Science Research Institute. There are a lot of very special interesting math problems and situations, some of then may guide you trought the direction of International Math Olympiad's problems. This book is amazing. Situations takes time to really understand in this book.
Well that doesn't look right
Oof
That sounds like a great way for people to wear out SSDs. 😂
Duct tape should fix this
That's not a Fujitsu laptop, is it.. ?
If I was a math teacher it would be so fun to talk to my students about this book. I would make them see all the amazingness of it.
Acer, lol
Dang.
Yeah, if you run out of RAM it's rough on SSDs -- that's why my workstations have dedicated pagefile drives
Yeah, I always set up mine on the HDDs, but my rigs barely touch swap.. if ever.
I don't have HDDs in my workstations anymore, but even when I did, I had a pagefile SSD -- Cheap 120GB SATA drive. Performance pentalty is too great if it needs to hit an HDD
swap partitions are worse on ssds
Does it actually make a difference? I wouldn't imagine writing a file to the main partition or writing it into the swap partition would make a difference, it's the same amount of data
All storage devices have wear endurance.
https://superuser.com/a/1081730 <-- it seems i may be wrong
i would expect a partition to be worse
Shouldn't make even the slightest difference.
As far as the device is concerned, writes are writes.
Uuuughhhh... 9.6GB update for PUBG.
true, but doesnt a swap partition causes a bit more writes?
If it's actively in use.
i know they are better for hdds, because they can be physically placed closer to the center of the hdd
which i think is where it is much faster
on ssds, i would assume that the difference it makes is on metadata, but i dont know if a swap file and a swap partition write any metadata
A swap file would have filesystem overhead while a swap partition would just do direct writes
Outer circumference has the higher read/write speed for HDDs
i always mess up where it is faster
dont know why
but does that swap file overhead translate into more writes?
i presume you can say to do not write access and modified times on some directories
boodle boop hello humans
Ever since the without updating access times, there will be filesystem overhead
*even without
Zvedelina Stankova suggested me these series of books, from the MSRI and AMS. They are great.
She told me it would not be any harm in me if I read this one 1th to 5th grade math book. There's no danger in doing this. It was very funny.
What is the best IDE for 4 gb raspberry pi?
Those react apps were crashing my computer
Shouldn’t require 8Gb to run an ide and compile an app but it does right now
I could write for gtk probably more lightweight but not cross compatible
What about Visual Studio Code?
It just crashes on the pi because I run out of ram I only have 4gb ram
Real men code in $default_text_editor
Someone smart answered my question on Facebook
I am going to use their suggestion for vim or gvim
It uses gtk because ide have a lot of stuff going on
gedit? geany?
I am gonna try vim
good luck
it runs great on the console
the problem is writting and exiting
(yes, i hate vim)
from what i found, seems like vim with buttons
110 baud? :/
I have used computers at that speed. I used my first computer at that speed. Then again, I still have that computer, but now I can use it at 300 baud (since I upgraded its terminal from a modified Flexowriter to just using another computer as a terminal [yes, I'm aware of the irony of using a 2200MHz 32-bit computer with 16GB of RAM as a terminal for a 1MHz 8-bit computer with 768B of RAM])
must be horrible
I mean, it's not baud.
My smoke alarm confuses me so much
It's past midnight, it starts beeping for a new battery
I replace it with one, starts screaming like it's possessed or something
Measured battery voltages with my fancy precise multimeter
The """dead""" battery is 8.964v and the one that made it sound possessed is 4.840v
LOL
Aliexpress: “you have a shipping update!”
UPS Tracking: “looks around for package yeah it’s somewhere but we can’t tell you exactly where…”
The phenomenon of smoke detectors beeping in the middle of the night isn't just bad luck, it's physics: batteries are chemical, and therefore their voltage depends on the ambient temperature, which generally drops at night.
wow
i just got twisteros working with pi-apps
also box86 so i can use limited windows apps on the pi also
python and java ide complete
now just need a good javascript ide
Okay, now explain why, when I've been on call, giant systemic issues suddenly come to a head in the middle of the night and page me...
If you check, you'll find out that happens on nights with a full moon.
once in the blue moon
This seems consistent with it thinking the new battery is actually no battery at all. Smoke alarm beeps for new battery when there is still lead time, and screams when it enters a state such that, if you left it at that state indefinitely, it wouldn't protect you from a fire.
This is 1 real, it is the brazillian currency. This one is very old. They do not circulare 1 real anymore and the drawings changed. There is a bird behind.
Each value has an animal, generally it is a rare brazillian animal. (The bed is like that because Torricelli bites it)
I lack cheese supplies.
[in death Vader voice] I find your lack of cheese disturbing
[in disposable lackey voice] It's older cheese, but it checks out...
Cheese makes food better.
Brazillians never eat ham without cheese. Ever. If I did/do this my mother would argue badly with me.
Cheese has good health benefits
And lots of studies aren’t able to conclude whether there is even a such thing as “too much cheese”
But I do not know about other states too much. I know the northeast of Brazil is like this. The southeast too...
The first calzone I ever had was definitely too much cheese
Everything that is too much is too much.
It can be bad for healthy skerr.
I was chocked when I discovered cheddar was british, I always tought it was american. We like provolone cheese, cheese of the kingdom. Brazillians like cheddar a lot, it is the best cheese for a lot of people here, we also like prato cheese, Minas cheese, mussarela cheese, some healthy people like ricota cheese. I like ricota cream cheese, minas cream cheese, it is good.
Cheddar Gorge. 👍
I'm a fan of asiago, though it's not always easy to find.
Nah, we have American cheese, and we call it that because we wish we could call cheddar our own LOL
My father's favorite cheese is Trança cheese, my mother's favorite cheese is Netherland's Edam cheese and mine is Minas cheese.
Edam cheese is very good with french bread and butter.
Trança cheese you eat without anything else.
Minas cheese is very good for cheeseburguers, bread and butter...
I do not care if the food is made by my father or by my mother really.
I've only found one place nearby that sells provolone
You’re talking like uncut logs of provolone?
It is expensive like a bamboo. A small quantity is so expensive, a big quantity is way more expensive.
Yeah, imports aren't massively expensive... But no-one stocks it.
We moved into a new place with a smoke alarm that just... won't stop beeping randomly... it also seems fused to the ceiling because we can't remove it to get to the battery
Probably mains powered
it's just beeping less than a minute apart all day without fail it's driving me insane
Rip
bring out the hammer
(Although if it's powered by mains, if you break it you might get shocked)
No hidden screws or anything? Even if was directly wired, you should still be able to remove it in case you were to say, change it out for a newer one
belatedly: there's probably a little latch or something along the edge you need to press (or a hole you need to poke with a paperclip) to let the thing spin
I would be inclined to reset the breaker that it's on, but.. anyone's guess which that might be. 😛
Assuming that it's on the mains
I hope fire code requires smoke alarms to have a backup battery...
If you were really a "connoisseur", you'd say Parmigiano-Reggiano. 😄
trollololol
We've tried getting it down and removing it but it's like, 10-11 feet up
Any other variety isn’t real Parmesan
"Parmesan" is the fake stuff. lol
When I say Parmesan I only mean Reggiano.
Preference of terms doesn’t matter as long as you’re talking about the same thing
Not to be confused with Parma-John, who is some dude named John, from Parma, OH.
Post in #help-with-circuitpython. You'll get better assistance there.
@stray wind sorry - didn't even see I was in the wrong channel 😦 I am old.
No worries!
Yay I really like TwisterOS for raspberry pi
I can run windows apps easily!
And with only a 10% performance hit!
I got zoom working and all these programs through “pi-apps” and even steam is working on pi4
I got pycharm and IntelliJ and notepad++
I think it is so pretty those japanese bathroom technologies. Has anyone here ever did an electronic project for the bathroom?
I was thinking in a pretty temperature sensor with pretty display and LEDs for the shower.
Or some sensor in the place I put the shampoo to detect if there is a shampoo or even the shampoo weight and tell me if it needs to change the shampoo.
It can be this. My original idea is to make the LED interact with water's data.
Also a decibel sensor to detect the sound of the water that touches the ground.
I like that it's water powered, and indicates the water temperature by color
It could tell something like "danger the ground is wet", it could put a limit in the water to not open too much.
Maybe a DC motor to move this.
It could detect if there is someone, if there is not the shower turn off or an alarm would ring(a parent could choose it). It could have something like detect the weight of the soap if you did not used enought for a bath it would appear an alarm.
There could be a lot of projects about parents fiscalazing kids in the bathroom like if they use too much soap, too few shampoo in a week, if they touch protections in the bathroom, etc... There is a lot to think about this.
Do anyone know where I can find a Sparkfun Discord server?
🤷♂️
It's not a typical product, RedBoard Red-V
What are you using to program it?
Why don’t you give zephyr a try?
I believe it is also a supported option
I use it on some other boards and I found it works well although difficult due to my lack of familiarity with c and c++
I should be sound asleep by now - but I still haven't finished putting together my new Prusa 3d printer, given to me as a gift...
this was a gift from some graduating students on our robotics team
Nice gift. 👍
I really need a cheap (enough) 3D printer, but not some prebuilt jank.

Ender 3 Pro or even the Ender 6
Cheap enough and great for learning on
Still ain't cheap, are they?
I suppose the only things that get real cheap, are so for a reason..
Ender 3 Pro is < $300
I do have some older Reprap controller board, but I'm not sure if it's worth building around.
Cheapest I saw was around £170 GBP, so.. a little prohibitive.
I mean, they have smaller ones
Aye, but ROI disappears when they get too small.
Creality Cr-100 Mini 3D Printer with Fully Assembled and Intelligent Leveling, Best for Kids Children Beginner Students STEM Educational Toys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0851F9SJK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0HVNT6PWHJXPEYPMK8D4
Do you have a particular price range and size you're targeting?
Honestly, no idea.... I'm a bit lost in that respect.
Less money = good, but... Ehh...
There are limits to the usefulness of anything excessively cheap.
Going too cheap on a 3d printer is less of a tool and more of a learning experience, tbh
I think I'm leaning more towards DIY, especially as I have two control boards already.
And I certainly enjoy building.... anything. 😂
Control boards with stepper drivers and display output?
Well, that is a good upgrade to some of the cheaper kits
Assuming they're decent boards.
Not sure.. I'll try digging it out soon.
Ahh, there we go!
Hiding in my old pics. 😁
Are those TMC2209 stepper drivers?
It's hard to get excited for an 8-bit controller board these days, but perfectly acceptable for an entry-level printer.
My money's on A4988
Which is a pretty standard entry-level stepper driver that should work like a charm
I probably wouldn't put more than $200 into building a printer around these boards though
Should be ok to throw together a decent (enough) machine then..
Yeah.. less is better. Lol
Amusingly, the Monoprice Mini Delta entry level (~US$127) printer includes a 32-bit controller, but delta printers do require a lot more math than Cartesian ones
Yeah, that's definitely too small
Most newer printers will have 32-bit controllers though
Should be fairly trivial to replace a controller though.. no?
For you, yes. For people who don't want to do reading and experimentation, less so.
https://www.voxelab3dp.com/product/aquila-diy-fdm-3d-printer is available for $170 and looks pretty solid for its price
Voxelab Aquila is a budget friendly FDM 3d printers for 3d printing beginners and advanced users. It is super easy to use but presents with great 3d models.
Cheaper than my old Anet A2 and looks a lot nicer
You can also look at the Railcore type designs, which lend themselves to DIY.
There should be a good number of open-source designs if you do want to really build it from scratch
I'll smash the ol' laptop keyboard later. 😁
I don't think it's a whole lot less money for the labor involved, but the options there are pretty well-developed.
👍
Got some new brakes for my motorcycle!
Finding OEM parts is really difficult though...
I just worked all night cleaning data
Wow, the smoke from all the fires is really thick today
You should be able to see mountains that way
Like smoke is affecting visibility as close as 1/8 mile or ~200m
Will the adafruit discord server be getting threads?
That looks sick!
Not melted cheese - Saru/Captain Kirk
I was wondering that too! I know others do (e.g. the Kaggle server, the Sublime Text server), but I don't see it on this one.
Happy CP Day!
In the Star Trek discussion server I started asking about cheese and Captain Kirk and people started to discuss about cheese.
I really do not understand why go so deep into this.
In these situations I think I'll think in what Spock would do. He just would not care at all.
In one of Becky Chambers' books, there's a scene where an alien child asks if cheese is real. Apparently aliens find some human customs inexplicable.
Nanu nanu! 🖖
But melted cheese is cheese but just better.
Depends on the cheese....
It also depends on if you have access to a Fondoodler
the "charge" of it must be expensive, like those Nestle Coffee machines that you have to buy those specific cups with coffee flavors.
like this.
one of these cups must be the same price of one big Starbucks coffee (at least goes in this direction).
(it is completelly less expensive than a Starbucks coffee, but for it's quantity, size, and how much it produces it is expensive)
Nah, you fill it yourself with your cheese of choice
we used to have two of these for ketshup and mayonese. But I think using this a lot of cheese would remain in the botton stucked.
It would be nice to make an electronic project in this. I dream that in the future all of these products will be fully electrical, with a lot of displays showing data in the inside, if it is good to eat, what it is the product inside, you press buttons to make the food go out...
Like an I-Extruder for food?
Yes.
Melted cheese is cheese but just worse - except for Brie, then it's better 😉

A Song For Dad: A Father's Day Song by Bryant Oden (Songdrops). (Father's Day is June 18th in the U.S. and most countries). This is the new version of A Song For Dad, a Father's Day and birthday song for dads that I put on YouTube last year. Free instrumental karaoke track link below. This one isn't as slow, and has a little orchestration. HA...
Father's day is on 8th of august. I hope you'll like the song.
19th of June for me 🙂
I just read the text behind the video now.
I like it 🙂
Yes I liked it too. I searched a bunch of songs about fathers today. Both in portuguese and in english.
I have a very big playlist of all songs that my father and my mother likes, today I started this playlist of songs about fathers and mothers. Mostly because of these songs that I found beautiful like you did.
Fried chicken nuggies (homemade) and homemade chips 🙂

Regex is dark magicks.
Trying to find website for it I found regex101 for test box and a cheat sheet
Every time I have to use regex, I'm glad I don't have to use regex often. It's powerful but also complicated.
Regex101 is useful for chasing down stuff. I use regexes a lot, as my job involves a lot of parsing/transforming data.
yes, and they support multiple regex engines
i find it more useful to keep on the pcre engine, as it shows a lot more information, even if you have to port it to python or ecmascript later on
Has anyone here ever ride a bicycle in New York for long distances (more than 2000m or 1.24 miles) ?
Not in NY.
I’ve walked longer distances than that in NYC.
Heh, me too. More than once, my friends have given me strange looks when they say we can take the subway and I point out "it's only eight stops, we can walk that". Don't get me wrong, I love the NYC subway, it just seems silly for short trips.
is it a hot take if I say regex is a bad language for many of the use cases it's employed for?
not at all
people try to shoehorn it into many things
sometimes, it is the only option
Google Maps Route: https://goo.gl/maps/FBm1BZrm4Dn

Riding bicycles there in New York looks like a lot of fun.I saw the prices for bike rent in New York, not bad. Things here in Brazil are way less expensive but the prices for bike rent are relativelly low to New York and the bikes looks great.
My father wants me to visit New York. When I go probabilly I will not buy rich things. Bicycles are great and are not rich.
just be careful - car traffic in NY can be crazy and many drivers completely forget that they are expected to share the road with bicycles. I have a friend in NYC who rides the bike daily and I heard many horror stories from him
https://goo.gl/maps/FBm1BZrm4Dn yes, it would be nice to follow this route, it looks calm, there are no dark places and there is light everywhere and a lot of people and cars, it feels safe. The cars do not drive faster than 60km/h in this route I think(I am not completelly sure).
In this cycling route I pass in front of the brazillian consulate in New York. Nice. It would be so nice to buy a support for smartphones and film my cycling travel so my father and my mother could see.
If you don't feel like buying a support, you could also consider making your own (this is the path I take because my phone is not one of the popular ones, and I enjoy making things with whatever features I like).
I can 3D print it.
Why are drug doses measured in milligrams per liter?
Does it mean per liter of blood
I still need to figure out how to mount stuff to my wheelchair, hopefully not too destructively
Usually I find them either measured by the dose in milligrams or cubic centimetres, sometimes millilitres
Cubic centimeters?
How? That’s volumetric, not quantitative
Or am I not understanding something
Usually it's a particular concentration
Ah, then mg/L of blood sounds logical
For example epinephrine, 1cc is 1mg at 1:1000, but you can also have 5cc as 0.5mg at 1:10000, and both are valid doses
Honestly, drug measurements are a mess
All the pills I have are in mg though, except for a few which are IU (which is annoying and makes no sense as a unit)
I don't know.
I assumed it was an absolute quantity.
325 mg of asprin seems entirely deterministic.
Where are there any variances there.
If you had a mountain of asprin you could manufacture only n (and no more than n) 325 mg tablets. End of story.
The regulator in my motorcycle overheated.... more things to replace :(
In episode 35 of Project Binky we really make some progress on getting the mini started for the first time. Lots of stuff gets bolted to the car, the wiring loom gets finished off, we have some nice machining done and we try not to scratch the paint as the engine gets bolted up.

Also i have a question. I replaced the seals on my engine block but one oc them is still leaking. Its a lot better then it used to be, but I'm still finding a thin line of oil on the two mating surfaces. Should I just leave it be or should i try to fix it again
Before i fixed it, i was finding puddles of oil under the bike btw
Better now than when it's kaput.
I rode my Bonneville into Texas and all of a sudden I have a lot of oil all over my right boot.
I rode home 50 miles on the remaining cylinder. ;)
I got rid of it a few months later, and never did resolve what happened.
I was outprocessing the Air Force and didn't have time to figure it out.
What are laws around cyber attacks from one country to another?
Say a DDoS is subordinated in europe, towards an American network. What happens if American authorities find who was responsible? The other way around?
maritime law ;)
they send their navy after 'em
didn't you ever notice StarTrek's federation has a strong naval tradition?
In many cases, countries have treaties to cover this. "Hey, we found this info, can you take a look?" "Sure!"
Depending on things, the home country often deals with it since they have laws about those sorts of things. But there's also going to be cases when they're extradited.
Extradition treaty.
Or you can be charged with crimes in your home State.
Sorry, Andon... That was just restating your point.
Never mind me. Lol
Also, note that in a lot of cases it's "Oh, yeah, that's coming from <country> and we already know we're going to get nowhere with them, so let's not bother with attacker attribution"
I'd say probably 3D printing because then you can make a clamp that's perfectly optimized with the right angle and dimension of the tube or tubes that you are clamping to. Failing that, hose clamps with a layer of neoprene to protect the underlying tubing.
My uncle, who is a chemist-turned-software-engineer and uses a wheelchair does have a setup so he can sit in one wheelchair and repair the other wheelchair, but he's never seemed to get motivated to do wheelchair mods. A lovely model I photographed who uses a wheelchair, on the other hand, bedazzled their chair non-reversably, with a zillion rhinestones.
The person I'd point to in this server is @ATMakersBill#7759 who does tons of stuff with making things accessible. But to echo @burnt tendon, so much of it is done with 3D printing
My friend told me about Manhattan food is like $25.00 in Manhattan for work lunch
Is that all?
The currency is inflated there because it’s so close to the printer
Like I just got a full plate of mei fun Chinese food for $8.00
The best deals for Manhattan food are the food trucks, but there are good affordable meals all over, even in the financial district (where my company's HQ is)
Yeah my friend told me he used to subway from brooklyn
He told me to come up there but I am not sure about it
that's about half of my weekly groceries in the midwest 😶
eating at a restaurant is more expensive regardless but still
@terse estuary exactly
I'm definitely getting haggis and gnocchi on Monday. 😄
I do not like mobius strip neither klein bottle.
It’s funny because there is a Character in Loki named Mobius who works for the Time Variant Authority
And Tony stark in that scene used a Möbius strip to figure out quantum time travel
This is an easter egg, for sure.
Yes
every time i saw advertising for Loki i processed T.V.A. as Tennessee Valley Authority

Brazil got 12th place in the Olympics 🙂 I'm so happy with this position, it's pretty great.
I found a great snack. Fresh homemade spaghetti sauce with lasagna noodles. You take the cooked lasagna noodle and roll it up on itself and dip it into your sauce. Yum.
I’m sorry to the Italians on this server lol
does it need to be cooked? :/
Now i dare you to try that but with raw ramen noodles
Would that make them raw-men noodles?
I’m the monster who pours a seasoning packet onto raw ramen and eat it
I too am that monster. Team raw ramen munchers!
Been there lots of times. When i need food faster than water can boil
I like to eat the broken bits that are in the bottom of the bag while i'm waiting for the rest of the noodle brick to cook
In my childhood I met kids that liked to eat raw ramen-noodles with the sause powder and drinking limon soda. Today this is still incomprehensible to me.
well, i have to admit that with the powder, it is not fun to eat :/
i eat the packets raw but without the powder
that's good, right?
Uhhh most of them are spammy
Some are legitimate people looking just to connect
A lot are PCB fab workers trying to sell me on their fab service
You could get a lime rickey at the restaurant around the corner from where I lived, n years ago.
I ate a bit with then, as far as I remember they told me it's like eating cookies?
with the powder? i can't do it with the powder
without powder? eh, it's alright, depends on the brand
Could be anything. Given its length, my guess is a repeater junction.

Is the end not a DP?
What is a DP?
Display Port (kinda like HDMI)
No. I think the end is like those that goes into external HD USB 3.0
Oh like this
Do you ever find the USB interface they made for external hard drives interesting?
I never paid attention to it until a few years ago I noticed part of it was similar to micro usb
It is very beautiful indeed. When they anounced USB 3.0 the thing that most called my attention(in design) was this new USB interface, in Dimitri's photo. And the blue color of course.
It's USB Micro B 3.0, which you can technically use regular Micro B with, just only at 2.0 speeds max, cause the extra thing is the other 2 differential data pairs
I know what it is, it’s just fascinating
Gods I'm so jealous! I had one but it broke basically as soon as I got it so I have a lot of MDs but no player
What no I'm not dead shhhh
I am not human :O
Danke :D I didn't get to finish the costume tho DX

I explained something to my friend preceding it with "to put it really basically for you:"
And he told me it's actually "basic", not "basically"
Who is right?
"To put it really basic for you" does not sound right
Neither sounds right, either "basically, explanation" or "to put it simply, explanation" sounds right
I read "basic" as an adjective and "basically" as an adverb
"To make it basic for you" sounds better
or "To make it really basic for you"
But language is also subjective, and shifts, and the most important thing is that you're understood
I only correct someone if they're nowhere near any structure of grammar I'm familiar with
Basically is a mode adverb in portuguese.
I would expect something like "basicamente" 🙂
I remember in one of Richard Feynman's books, he explained about lecturing in Brazil. He would lecture in his fairly poor Portuguese, but the students didn't have trouble understanding him, as native speakers have little trouble getting around awkward usages. Similarly, they would ask their questions in English, for similar reasons. As a bonus, they'd all get some language practice in.
They would end up using simple phrases like "goes up a little" instead of hunting for exactly the right words for "increases slightly", which works just fine.
Mhmm, precise wording isn't critical to understanding. There are many ways to say the same thing, particularly in English, and while some don't sound right, they get the idea across
My UPS guy is more predictable than any other courier service so I always try to receive a shipment only via UPS ground.
Once in a while it's 2 or 2:30 p.m. and every so often before 10:45 a.m. but not often.
Usually 11:00 a.m. to maybe 12:59 p.m.
And the telemetry update is fast. Within 2-5 minutes I'd say.
could be even sooner.
amazon - fuggedaboudit - they send a photograph ;)
and show you a moving map with their truck on it.
(stop n shop's peapod-like service has that as well)
I just don't want much that amazon carries ;)
UPS is ALWAYS late for me, so I always try to receive packages via USPS, because they're always early.
like 1-3 days late
;) my post office courier normally doesn't deliver before 3-5 p.m. drives me a bit crazy(er) than usual.
between 10-12 for me
the substitutes deliver during normal hours because they haven't learned to do it the .. way it's usually done here.
When I was a kid the postman showed up while the sun was still a low angle in the morning.
UPS always delivers between 5-9 PM for me
I generally go for USPS because it's cheaper and I just want it here eventually... UPS if I'm worried about tracking
Me too
Cheep cheep cheep
I used UPs international because it was 5-8 days and it’s been almost 10 so far
Yeah - did you have DHL as an option
It just got to Anchorage yesterday after being in limbo for 7 days
DHL was expensive
$35 compared to $24
More than UPS International!!
oof
I usually use FedEx
FedEx has been reliable for me internationally and DHL always gets my address wrong
DHL has never given me issues, and is usually ahead of schedule.
Back East, FedEx was the worst of the carriers and UPS was great. In Utah it’s the opposite
Ooof, yeah, whoever decided to put letters in your apartment number probably didn't even think about those things
Yeah
Over the years I've watched FedEx and UPS go from one being great and the other terrible, to flipping, and now they're both perfectly fine.
Post office has been pretty good for me here
I know some places the post office is terrible, but here's it's fantastic.
I usually don’t mind DHL other than it’s usually $8-10 more than FedEx
Here too
Speed is a little slower than DHL but I’m a little cost sensitive as a business.
