Thanks for the tip.
You think I should just restore the eyes, or make them a different colour?
no idea
@solar hamlet do you have a part list for your osh park blinka board?
@vast condor let me update the hackaday.io page
@solar hamlet okay! 🤓
here it is
I will probably get the boards tomorrow, then I can make photos and upload instructions
@solar hamlet Fantastic, thank you so much!
Hey, what products from Adafruit do you think would be handy for my Zizzle IZ toy restoration project?
I want to make it seem more like the real toys.
Because it's just a little Mc Donalds version.
What sort of interior size do you have?
I'll get a picture of it standing on top of a rubix cube. Might that help?
Well, that shows the exterior.
If you're going to be shoving things inside it, it'll be useful to know if things like screws or supports are getting in the way
I don't know the interior. I can't open it.
Because they have the stupid triangle screws.
oof
The body is about the size of a golfball. And the head is sort of smaller then that.
You might - MIGHT! - be able to squeeze a Pi Zero in there.
I might need to hook it up and not use a battery but it seems VERY possible.
You think a Pi can use the coding of an original Zizzle IZ?
Doubt it. According to what I just read, the original one has a lot of "inputs"
Which I'm not sure you'll be able to squeeze in
Maybe not. But I'm sure I can make do with one button.
After all, it is just a Mc Donalds version.
One button? Sure. You could probably fit it, a Pi Zero, a small LiPo, and one of these: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3196
It's a project, right?
Yep.
Something to bring a childhood toy back to life.
If only I had black and white paint. I could fix the eyes.
Paint it up, then put some sort of clear coat on it to protect it.
Colored plastic McDonalds toy, right? I'd aim for a semi-gloss one. Would probably hit the plasticy-painty look better than matte or full gloss
Alrighty. Thanks for the suggestion.
Be aware, that Zero LiPo I linked does NOT have a charging circuit built in.
So you'd need something to charge the lipo.
Actually, a Feather ESP8266 would go really good. Internet connectivity! Plus LiPo charging. Plus small size. You're not doing much with it other than playing sounds, right?
You think I can fit a battery that can power the Pi in the Zizzle? Along with the pi?
Oh cool!
Maybe. I might try some experimentation.
Can this little doodad also manipulate LEDs?
Awesome!
Small enough to fit into a golfball?
And some of the GPIOs get a little funky because of how the ESP8266 is
It's 2 inches by 0.9 inches
Probably would stick into the head a little
My god, that might do just swell.
Built in LiPo charging circuit
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be saving up for this piece!
the power figures I got for the ESP suggest its WiFi stack is power hungry. When WiFi is on and active, there wouldn't be that much of a difference between the ESP and a Pi Zero W, but when it's off the ESP is much more efficient. FWIW.
This might be too large to fit inside, but would be super convenient if you could. Would make plugging in a lot easier: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3258
That gives me an idea: Would it be possible to create an online and offline mode kind of set up with this feather?
Even "Active" the WiFi isn't always "Active" unless it's doing something.
But yeah, you can
Like, offline and portable, it does one simple thing: Play a song. But when connected to a server of some sort, a PC can control it and make it do more then that.
THat's my idea.
You'd also want to add some sort of power switch
One of these would go well, if you have the space
If I do some black magic, or maybe have a little luck, that MIGHT make it in.
Looks like I might need to cut it down a bit, though.
That, with some wires soldered to the correct places, would fit better
Cool. Maybe I'll ask a few friends if I can borrow some soldering equipment.
But a nice thing about the one with the long wires is you could run the switch to the outside of the body
With the Feather, the charging's built in, so you'd just need to connect the USB
Oh, ok.
This is getting a bit more ambitious then I planned.
Gone from a simple repaint to making it more advanced then the actual thing.
...But wait! There's more!
If you put CircuitPython on the ESP8266, you could have @sturdy oyster help you out in getting WebREPL stuff going on it.
And then you could control it from your computer
Theoretically you can do it with Arduino as well, but I LOVE CircuitPython, and REPL/WebREPL is so much easier to use than building a custom web interface
You think I would be able to add a little more to the Zizzle if I used a Circuit Python? Like, maybe motorized eyes? Or maybe making the ears affect the music?
Motorized eyes would be easiest involving a 3D printer, a lot of knifing, and would eat a lot of space.
Having the ears affect the music... Maybe?
Do they move?
They do twist.
And the eyes are loose. They do move up and down. They just don't have motors like the actual thing.
Any kind of motor is huge, relatively.
So avoid those unless I have space to waste?
You MIGHT be able to put some form of potentiometer in the ears, but I fell like you won't have enough space
For the eyes? I can't think of anything that would even fit at all
Yeah, maybe that wouldn't be a great idea.
How much soldering/programming/etc stuff have you done previously?
I've done no soldering, I've only done a little bit of BATCH.
I have done a SLIGHT bit of Python.
I definitely recommend keeping it fairly simple then. ESP8266, LiPo, power switch, some LEDs, and CircuitPython
Ah, fantastic! CP will be wonderful then
CP?
Is this about my slight knowledge of Python?
That was only to make the chat in Minecraft Pi say "Hello World"
Oh, ok.
It's better than diving into C. 😄
I know. I've tried.
Well, to some people...I prefer C myself. 😄
But I'm coming in at the end of the conversation
Yep.
@lost condor I was actually using CP to referr to CircuitPython
Because, well, he has used Python
I'm just here to ask for halloween color suggestions for my souaphone (parade tomorrow)
Sousaphone? Man, if it wasn't tomorrow, I'd say put a great big pumpkin cover over the horn, but you probably don't have time to acquire/make one
@runic elbow That might make things more difficult, but also more useful. You can make the eyes move, but you're more limited on space
Assuming the gears/motor aren't busted
https://plus.google.com/+adafruit 1) Add +Adafruit Industries to your circles 2) Post a message/comment HERE and say you want to show off a project and we wi...
Well, watch the end of the video. 😄
LAVA
One minute. Just fixing up the paint job on the Zizzle.
Are they called IZ Or Zizzle?
@runic elbow Yes. Zizzle Iz
OK.
I think besides the eyes, the painting is done!
Now I just need the correct screwdrivers.
And black and white paint.
Screwdriver will be the hardest to find.
Thanks.
That was a lot easier and a lot less expensive than I expected
Also, multiple sizes since who knows precisely what size that thing has
Yep. My LEAST favorite thing about screwdrivers.
Indeed.
Next one, I'm painting blue with Yellow for the belly, ears, and head thingie.
@lost condor is it possible to program the pixels into an animated jack-o-lantern face?
cool.
Add more pixels. Make the whole thing pixels
pixels and batteries, of course
Man, I don't have time to do the math for the Jack-O-Lantern face tonight.
I'll just have to do some colors instead
unless you can harness the power of music -- or wind in this case 😉
... I hate that, because it's so clever.
I'm sorry, witch colors are those?
Then I also have the "halloween three" colors (purple, orange, and green)
You should do Candy Corn colors.
And then there's one more but due to phones these days and their ability to color correct, it just looks white. 😄
Yeah I tried Candy Corn colors, but there wasn't enough difference
Thinking about it, I'm not surprised
I have one question: No store around my area sells candy corn. yet somehow, during halloween, people have MOUNTAINS of it. Where does it keep coming from?
I'm afraid in daylight it'll look like WHITE white black
They sell it, they're just sold out. 😄
@runic elbow They bought it back in the 80s in bulk.
There's just a dump truck that makes the rounds every halloween
There's Candy Corn
It looks better in person
Phones are really good at color correction, and they assume the bright spots in the pictures that are some shade of orange should actually be white. 😄
Phones do funky things to bright lights and to bright colors
Showing off bright LEDs.... not the easiest
Still, the color of the carpet is a good reflection of it
I also have an orange and black stripe, but it looks just like white and black in pictures.
I guess that'l do for emergency pre parade programming. 😄
I like that pattern for showing off color schemes, but it's one of the less visually interesting patterns
@lost condor Where-ish do you live?
Atlanta-ish
I can't think of anywhere near me that even thinks about halloween parades
Ahh. So somewhat close to Azure Skies. Pretty sure he's in the "Atlanta-ish" area
I'm a member of a somewhat crazy street band out here.
Well, I'm a somewhat newish member
Well, I wouldn't expect a super-strict band to allow LED'd sousaphones
And so I needed to crazy up my sousa
Also, speaking as a former marching band member, is ANY band sane?
Well, yeah
Pfff. You're only old if you want to be old.
Colorful!
We aren't sounding great because this is the end of a three hour long parade, but there's an example of us
Also, the conductor's outfit is awesome
Isn't it though?
That's just amazing
Hrmm
Just noticed my Halloween Three palette looks just like my Mardi Gras palette
Oh well
Yeah, and when you're only doing emissive color with super low pixel density, there's even fewer. 😄
Because "black" just looks like "off"
There's a billionty shades of red, but in the end... It's still a shade of red
You think 3D printers would have issues with printing completely hollow, full sized Zizzle IZ bodies?
I want to use my Pi to make a more advanced Zizzle.
Google Home IZ.
Introducing: Google IZ. your personal desk assistent.
Oh my god, I should do that.
My god, the things on the Adashop are cheap.
Check it out! It's almost impossible to tell that this toy was originally black!
It even almost looks exactly like one of the originals.
Here's what it looked like before.
I just fixed up the eyes with some marker.
I swear, these things just LOVED to break.
Leave them alone for ONE SECOND, and they spontaniously combust.
I finally got a pic of the dish my son designed that I was raving about in #general-tech
@polar wraith are you ready to rumble as F1 quali is soon
it's been a while since I've played
I just logged on cause another group asked me to squad up (and im the 4th) I'll let you know if that changes
it'd be hilarious if we matched up
what's PUBG?
I know I'm new to the server, but room for one more in ~5 minutes?
sure!
just starting a game but I can play for a while. we're in the gaming voice chat
Was gonna join...
@gray aspen get it going?
well that qualification
@gray aspen I can play after you finish the update if you like
@stuck moth have you got a update to your gaming pc?
I haven't added anything recently
well from 17th Fall Creator Update started rolling
ah, I haven't seen it yet
I have used it for a few weeks
77%
@gray aspen kk, I'd love to play some more. finally got a fog map but died quickly into it
Will let you know when it's done :)
👍
I'd submit a bug report for that Windows behavior....but I think I'd be told it was a "feature".
And I'm victim to it too -- I got a message yesterday that at 2:35pm, my work laptop would be going down for a mandatory reboot.
Ok, that's....inconvienent, but acceptable. Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, it rebooted around 2:05pm. About 5 minutes after I was told.
https://www.hanselman.com/blog/UseASecondLaptopAsAnExtendedMonitorWithWindows10WirelessDisplays.aspx
Learning how to control group policies on windows is the best thing ever
one time i set that my parents wasnt able to use internet after clock hit the sleeping time
i was keep parental control on
Use windows as a second display? Not for me. It'd be #7
the iPad pro is a surprisingly good second display, via the Duet app
"Why do you have six screens? " "because I couldn't fit 8 on the desk"
gonna run into GPU power consumption at some point
that's what the hampster is for.
You can connect more via USB3 these days.
If you want to get to crazy levels of monitor... get an 80" 8k TV once those are available... that's equivalent to 16 1080p screens
So 8 of those then?
For my work laptop (windows 7 thinkpad from 3 years ago - no USB3), I connect my ipad pro via USB and an older 1366x768 external USB2 monitor.
Neither does video well, but for static info they're glorious. I can carry a triple screen setup in a shoulder bag.
There are faster, better, larger in both resolution and size portable USB3 monitors available today....for less than what I paid for my USB2 panel. Isn't technology great? 😃
that was one of those things I was thinking of... there's all these amazing 1920x1200 8" tablet screens, but the only thing I can see making use of them is a) $300 for a screen with hdmi in, b) only 1920x1080, so not the full resolution
when you can get a tablet with the same screen for about $80
The most useful thing about multi screens in Win10 is the "snap to edge" and "snap to corner"
Makes organizing looking through multiple folders, etc a lot easier
I'm getting more and more... uncertain.. about wanting to ever use Windows 10
as Microsoft pushes more and more "features" into it
but I do make sure the WMs I use in Linux support similar features like the window snapping
that is really nice
I wouldn't care much about 10 either way on desktop, except that I also have a Surface Pro, and Windows 8 made and now 10 makes a lot of sense there. I also like having roughly the same experience across devices, so that's why I use 10
heh, yeah, I don't have anything like that
Only computer I have that has windows instlaled on a partition is my desktop
and that's MOSTLY due to just games
but most of the games that only run on windows, I just don't have the energy/time for anyways
so I tend to just stick to debian
but Microsoft has been doing really well to make Windows 10 very touch/pen friendly
Can't wait until the Snapdragon 835 devices with Windows on ARM start rollng out
(hoping for a nice tablet from that lineup that isn't a $2000 ultrabook)
Refurbished, Surface Pro 2 and 3s can be had for a decent price. My Surface is a Pro 3 and I can vouch for it as a useful machine
if you want to dip your toes in the full fat experience
someday, when I have the money
currently have a ~$100 Atom-based tablet
it's.. okay? but the wifi drivers refused to work under Windows 10
So here I am using Android. (where, sadly, the uSD refuses to work)
I sprung for a deal on a refurb Fire HD 8 because I wanted an Android tablet
The small amount of RAM is... not fun
this one isn't too bad
32GB Flash, 2GB RAm
quad core 1.4GHz 64b Atom
(the processor used has a max RAM capacity of 2GB anyways)
I MOSTLY got it so I could read PDFs (kindle chokes on hefty PDFs)
of course, I mostly end up using it to play old retro games
funny, that
although it does mean between the salvaged atomt ablet mainboard, and this tablet, and my rpi3..
I have more little computers than I know what to do with
I use Windows because I play far to many games
about the only reason I keep it installed on an SSD
although it makes life miserable when Windows decides it jst wants to rewrite the boot sector for its own wants
I use Windows 10 insider builds
I bought a third party program for MacOS for window snapping + hover-over-dock-for-window-preview.
Worth it so much, one of the things Windows did right.
So I accidentally made a tiny fandom of Zizzles. And now Izonas are becoming a thing.
Nevermind, it died.
@sleek urchin windows is dead to me
Oh my. This is going to be fun.

@tiny moat saw your dew-point condensation issue. I've had some similar issues over here in the desert and finally built a corrosion monitor for the workshop. A space heater can be your friend.
Photos for context for everyone. Basically, it got humid over here, and my SEM was cold... This results in nothing good...
I propped open mu metal sheild and used heat gun to dry everything out. I am going to be changing my shop up a lot soon, including sealing up the big gap in my garage door. Hopefully I'll be able to put a heater out here as well.
That should help. I monitored dewpoint hourly last winter to get a feel for corrosion risk in my standalone workshop (not connected to the house). As a result I had only two potential events that I was able to avert with a small space heater.
Hrm... does fork-bombing a server count for a
, I wonder.....
@thin canopy You should send me some more info on that. I should probably do something like that for my shop. Adafruit IO time?
JEOL vs ISI (partial) component consumption to date. Hopefully I don't start to catch-up anytime soon.
@tiny moat you are getting organized in your garage lab?
@grave crest what mac app for snapping?
@stuck moth I really like HyperDock
you can get it inside and outside of the App store
Sometimes, there's an update pushed where you register it through the app store, but you need to update the binary from the website.
can it do a custom grid?
Other than that, it's not bad.
@stuck moth I don't think so, I just use snap to sides and corners.
They do have a trial.
k, when I was looking I was hoping for something customizable because I have an ultrawide monitor
Check out Magnet (in the app store)
I don't use it, but i've heard it's a good one
I originally got HyperDock because it did dock hover-over previews, like windows does when you hover over an open app in the taskbar.
ok will do! thanks!
(if you do come across one that does a custom grid, let me know...I'll make a note of it when someone else asks) 😃
I found one open source one but didn't dig into the code
@stuck moth moom is decent as well
@tiny moat Let's talk about it sometime. The corrosion monitor was built with a couple of M0 RFM69 boards.
Could easily be converted to WiFi and IoT. Turns out, after copious data gathering, that prevention is pretty simple. In my climate, keeping the workshop above freezing and <60% RH does the trick.
@stuck moth won't be free for pubg today, sorry
no worries @gray aspen I think I overdosed a bit on it yesterday. after we played my friend came over and I showed it to him and played a few solo games
Nice, hope you enjoyed a chicken dinner one way or the other
@polar wraith what a ending for the AustinGP
@thin canopy Sounds great! It's got a Monster Mash/Ventures/Doors vibe to it.
@vestal phoenix Thanks -- that was the intent. Something Retro TV Theme -ish was the target.
@thin canopy could be a theme song if they reboot The Munsters TV show.
@spice moss That was great!
@polar wraith the penalty was right call
Yes, but Max still had an awesome drive
yeah
@polar wraith kimi having glasses with him like those verstappen fans "deal with it" but Kimi trademark to look 😎
I have fallen into the trap that is Facebook games.
So after going to 3 different hardware stores+Walmart for antifreeze, I think I have everything to connect my JSM to my water chiller with a higher through put than when I had it configured for the ISI. Hopefully.
anything special about the antifreeze or you needed a 55 gal drum of that stuff?
Will this become a closed loop system now?
@thin canopy Yeah, the antifreeze should let me go closed loop. @vestal phoenix I will loose a bit of heat transfer performanc by using automotive stuff, but it should also reduce corrosion slightly. If I can't get what I need from it, then I will switch to something the manual recommend.
Closed loop should help preformanc out as well.
So the gfci tripped on the water chiller. This is going to be fun.
This water chiller has a problem somewhere, resistance hot to ground is at a 12m ohms. I am not liking this thing very much.
that is also kinda used in PC liquid cooling systems
Offtopic rant....it's really challenging to find a label maker that doesn't have excessive unused space before & after what you've typed.
Which is how they get you for refills.
Adabot wants to be a bus pirate again.
@grave crest I have a dymo one thats plugged into my PC that isnt too bad
still has a bit ok
But you can also buy 7M refils on aliexpress for $4 delivered
how good they will be i dont know
@indigo jetty I didn't think about buying 3rd party refills...thanks for the idea. Of course, buyer beware.
I bought some this week so I'll let you know it 2-12 weeks time
hahaha, that's the case with a lot of these sites.
managed to do a live stream from home today using cell phone data
worked ok i think, could be better but at least its a possibility
@indigo jetty only good if you have unlimited data plan.
I see a lot of twitch streamers using mobile devices for IRL streams. As nice as it is, I gotta ask....how badly do they pay for burning through that much data?
Also, recording in public opens a whole can of worms, from a legal standpoint. (I'm not a lawyer either.)
Im on an unlimited plan
Its odd, its a phone simcard in a 3G/4G modem
but if it was to buy a "internet" sim card it would be way way more expensive and not unlimited
Yeah im just using it becuase my upload on my DSL line is 0.4Mb
ewww.
this is around 2.4Mb
I'm sorry Brian.
I mean, want me to run two cans and a string? That has to have higher bandwidth than 0.4Mb....
just for better upload
the download is ok, 7Mb
like its usable, but not for video or live streaming
I can consume fine, once no one else wants to use it 😛
(by video i mean video calls)
YT, Twitch, netflix etc is all fine
The mobile data has two advantages, one it has better upload. But also its a dedicated line for me
so my Girlfriend can still watch netflix etc and it doens't impace
Its only E20 a month too
Anyone know how I can get each and every individual sound that the Zizzle IZ makes? For the project.
@tiny moat something inspiring from the Lab just 'round the bend from here. Scientific images as art. https://www.facebook.com/pg/PNNLgov/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10155127982324372
@thin canopy I am glad to see SEMs properly represented.
@thin canopy @polar wraith I found the problem.
Ewwwwww!
Gunk! (Not the good stuff.)
@spice moss Hmmmm, that's kind of creepy.
think costume what you make
Stronghold HD Establish your settlement, build your castle, and engage in siege warfare to defend your people in Stronghold, a unique "Castle Sim" combining the best aspects from City Builder and a Real-Time Strategy Game. Set in Medieval Europe, Stronghold challenges you with the daunting task of protecting your land from invasion, while keeping Lords, ladies, Jesters, Chicken, and much more.
I got a code for it with my graphics card. not sure I'll play though
At least if you give it a try and don't like it you haven't wasted money
ahh, a fresh install of Windows on a new, larger SSD. Simple pleasures
@blazing pond I've been running an OSX install for four years -- which included two OS upgrades. I've been considering doing the same on my end....the brand new car smell, right? 😉
It's like it undoes all the mistakes and cruft I've built up along the way that have carried over through updates
I just found out about Remix OS and OH MY GOD I need some o' dat.
I tried it on a flash drive. Can confirm: neat stuff
if it worked on old AMD E350 APUs I'd have a perfect kitchen PC for it
You think it'll work good on 512 Megs of RAM and a 1.8 gigahertz CPU?
what CPU specifically? Guessing by the RAM that'd be a Pentium 4 or similar era Celeron
The machine doesn't say.
Got a model number for the machine or anything?
I know the specific brand. And what the machine is.
And who made the mother board.
I mean like, the specific brand of the machine.
Sharing any of those details would help me figure out what the processor could be, and then look that up :v
It's a Microlink Touch, and the motherboard is made by Asus.
welp I can't find any info on that PC
That's fine.
I guess the only way to know is to try it out.
Wait, apps can be installed on the Xbox One? Like, computer apps?
Or is Kodi talking about the original Xbox?
Right now they're just Store apps, but yeah
Xbone runs Windows 10
like, legit the same Windows 10 as desktop
Splatoon 2 is awesome :3
I would imagine.
I've heard good things about it...the Nintendo Switch is gaining momentum, albiet at a snail's pace.
I wish Nintendo nothing but the best....and a heartfelt desire to increase production runs 😉
I would get one, but I'm still happy with my Wii for now.
If I could find freaking batteries for the Wiimote
Eneloop AAs are rather solid. And rechargeable.
My water chiller is down, and I really want to try and have a working SEM on show and tell... So garden hose time. Shocking, it looks like I only have one leak on the supply side!?
@tiny moat LOL, Same thing happened to me once in the lab at work. My boss didn't know what I was going to do for the demo. So at lunch, I ran out to Ace Hardware and bought a garden hose, hooked it up to a water fountain, and had the demo.
Got my budget too.
@gray pilot @tiny moat Sounds very familiar. Been through that "process" many times. Adapt.
This thing just never ends.
@tiny moat High tension or regular wire?
@thin canopy Regular voltage, high temperature. I have a spare I am putting in.
@tiny moat That looks rotted (heated and chipped). Bummer when the insulation starts to get granular and not flexible.
@thin canopy it's very soft still, it was just rubbing up against a hard edge.
@tiny moat That's relatively good news. Not systemic.
@tiny moat You have squirrels or raccoons as mini lab assistants?
@vestal phoenix This damage was done while the unit was still at it's old home (thankfully).
So in the comedy of errors that is my SEM, it looks like I now have a giant vacuum leak pump side of most if the valves. This is going to be a fun one.
sigh
@tranquil sedge @stuck moth Thanks for your help with the Macbook info. After thinking about it, I think I'm going to wait for a possible Black Friday sale on the 13" MBP (non-touch bar). The 12" MB just felt like it cut too many corners compared to the 13" MBP.
@grave crest If looking for the best deal, consider the refurbished models over on the apple site or Microcenter. A monster rig can get pricey.
@vestal phoenix Absolutely, Apple's Refurb Store is top notch quality at a fairly good discount. Microcenter....I've been burned by their used/refurn stuff before, but I hope no one else has been impacted by something like that.
I bought a refurb laptop from MC for the kid to use, loaded up everything and find that the DVD drive was not DVD- CD/RW as stated in the listing when I ordered. The return to the store turned into one of those RadioShack experiences trying to explain what was wrong and telling them I can't exchange the laptop because all my licensed software was already on the harddrive. They would not swap out the CD writer with the correct one in the display model in the store. The manager finally agreed to get me an external CD writer in the end though.
I mean, I like the idea of Microcenter -- it's a great store in theory. Every time I've been to my local one in North Jersey -- it looks like a tornado hit it. Everything is a disaster, can't find a single thing, items strewn on the floor....
I've ordered Adafruit parts from the North Jersey, Queens, and Brooklyn locations -- online orders. Every time, they seem to have 50% of my order available...even though they have in-store stock indicators on the website.
I mean, I really don't like being negative. But I don't feel MC is a place I want to support when they behave like that.
So I buy direct from Adafruit! 😃
@tiny moat I may be getting an extra nexys2 FPGA devboard next semester when my uni. switches to new xilinx stuff, interested?
would rather it go to someone who wants to learn more
@grave crest Yeah, a brick and mortar Newegg. I shopped at the Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and Yonkers MC looking for the Circuit Playground board. They had to fish them out of a misc bin on the shelf. I had a tough enough time trying to read their labels covering the package label to figure what things were. You have to know what you want going in there. It could be better.
@grave crest I guess I'm spoiled in that the Microcenter "near" me is awesome, super clean, and every time I've ordered things they've had everything ready to go. My only complaint is that MicroCenter labels are SO HUGE
@vestal phoenix Yonkers, NY? When did you go that they weren't there? That's the one I go to and they're pretty prominently displayed.
this may have been a year ago for the CP classic, after checking online
ah
but I did get a 3D printer cheap there, they must have not known how to fix their display model.
dang, lucky
SWEETNESS!!!!!! thenheadphone audio on the switch still works even when plugged into the dock!!!
@blazing pond seems another demo model broke http://www.microcenter.com/product/435491/3D_Pro?ob=1&rf=Search+Results worth the price for parts alone.
I was just at a microcenter on monday!!!!
@vestal phoenix Lucky on the 3D Printer 😃 I remember trying to snag some cheap/used Panavise tools from them, but no matter what they said they had in-stock, it wasn't to be found. Probably tossed in a bin somewhere.
They seem to have minimized the use of the security lockboxes where everything was stuffed in there but still, not a good shopping experience trying to search the wall of tiny pink parts bags scattered about and mixed in with the rest.
They just redid things for the holidays, I picked up a CPX the other day along with a few other things
the hobby electronics section was reorganized a bit a few months ago
dang I wish I could afford to pick up that printer
I mean, I'm grateful there's still a large electronics brick & mortar store still left standing -- and even for consumer electronics-- more competition is better for us consumers.
But they really tend to be a last-resort. And I do price-check them compared to Amazon, B&H, Newegg, etc for larger computer components. My last desktop (2013) was built with a Microcenter-sold CPU. Beat the competition by over $30 (post-tax).
Yup, you go there to showroom products and buy online. An issue that big box stores need to overcome.
When a company dies, how long does the patent on one of their products last?
@runic elbow Use the Google-force. https://www.upcounsel.com/how-long-does-patent-pending-last
Thank you.
also "A U.S. utility patent, explained above, is generally granted for 20 years from the date the patent application is filed; however, periodic fees are required to maintain the enforceability of the patent. A design patent is generally granted protection for 14 years measured from the date the design patent is granted."
of course, I am not a lawyer, seek professional counsel in matters
@runic elbow usually companies sell patents when they are dieing too.

Here's a frickin coincedence that took me a couple hours to debug. When I happened to flip the switch on my project, the florescent lighting in the ceiling went out. Darkness! What? Switch on, switch off, darkness. It just so happens the ballast in the fixture popped at the same time I turned on my CPX. No connection what-so-ever. Beleive me, I was scratchin' the Ol' knoggin for a while. 😃
Correlation vs. causation 😃
I THINK I'm improving. Just a bit.
Maybe for practice, I'll recreate Floral Fury from Cuphead.
@gray pilot Does CPX have a new EMP sensor/transmitter? Cool. 😉
Gone are the days where you had to carry your PC over to another room just to game on the living room TV. Lee Harrington of PCJunkieMods took initiative and ...

Anyone have any recommendations for soldering iron tips? I have the weller wl100 station (http://www.weller-toolsus.com/weller-wlc100-solder-station-40w-120v-w-st3-tip.html). It works well, but nowhere around here sells tips that fit it, so I have to buy online and the descriptions are usually not very helpful. I wish they would do the tips like router bits/endmills where you get a shank diameter/length to go by.
http://www.weller-toolsus.com/where-to-buy suggests some Ace Hardware and Amazon stores, plus a few others
Looks like your iron takes Weller ST1, ST2, ST3 ... ST8 tips
Thanks @blazing pond That's sort of why I am posting. I just got back from my local ace hardware, and they have nothing that fits (I've checked three so far). Home Depot doesn't either...Radioshack? Radionope lol.
Well, like I said, Amazon store :v
Looks like a search term of "Weller STn tip" where n is a number from 1 to 8 works great
ST3 is the tip it came with
It's in the description of the listing for your station https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AS28UC/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_2_w
If you were to get a selection, the ST2 looks like the most useful general purpose hobbyist tip
Thanks. I'll try it again then. Maybe they just sent the wrong one last time (I ordered the ST7). I'll give the ST2 a try...it looks like the tip I want
Oh my.
Jumped in today and splurged on a shiny new Circuit Playground Express. Would not have happened if I did not comb over every inch of that shelf. Can you spot them?
@vestal phoenix Upper left? Also, congrats!
Welp, while I wait for ffmpeg to compile on my RPi, how's everyone doing?
Long time, no talk, I miss you folks.
@stray wind Yeah, was used to only Adafruit stuff packaged in those little pink bags or black boxes. Didn't expect to have to look that high for good product placement.
@vestal phoenix Your Microcenter is much better maintained than mine.
I was there today and the "boards" area was pretty sparse.
Also, they only had a single LoRa feather, which is kinda silly since you often need two.
They show up as in stock in the website, the trick is to find them at the store
@lost condor You doing video conversion on a rpi? Isn't that kinda slow compared to a full size machine?
Yeah, but the camera is on the Pi. 😄
So that's where the conversion is going to happen

This is a Pi 3 so it should be OK, but just about to run the first test. Let's see how it goes.
was tempted to get the cheap pi zero W for $10 but I went for the CPX as a new toy.
I almost got the Pimoroni Android Things hat for a new toy, but decided to finish the project I'm working on first. 😄
Alas, I have a problem with not letting outstanding projects prevent me from buying new toys.
make sure you have active cooling on the pi 3

@gray aspen Thanks for the info about the cooling, but right now I have it sitting outside in a high tech enclosure made out of a cardboard box and it's in the 30s here. Luckily temps haven't been a problem. 😄
@lost condor Ah, so you're using it as a heater? 😉
😄
I'm amassing a giant collection of cheap power banks
They are €1.50 each
Only 1200mAh, but even the charge/boost circuitry for that price isn't bad!
Even comes with a cable! (although it's terrible)
I'm using it for the neopixel wedding table centers, got over 6 hours from the two combined cells
@vestal phoenix Getting to the conversation late. Grinders are broiled to melt the cheese, subs are cold, Dagwoods are big club sandwiches, and it's "y'all", the plural of which is, "all y'all."

@ancient rivet thanks for the guide I had not seen it! Looks really good!
Totally off topic: Star Trek Discovery (ST:Disco) I think has hit its stride. They just did a time loop episode (a sci-fi staple storyline). It was executed really well -- using the sci-fi as a vehicle for interpersonal interactions...something ST is applauded for doing.
Also, the ship's crew has t-shirts printed with "DISCO" on them. That's so rad.

I still need to watch discovery!

No idea who made this, but I love it.

I just noticed that half.com was retired. What a shame...great competition for amazon's used books listings.
(this happened on Aug. 31st -- clearly without much fanfare, didn't even notice it until now)
@grave crest If you are into books, I would recommend you go to one of those library-book sales-faires . They have some great finds there. Look at booksalefinder dot com for events, the bigger and better ones are in CT.
It was nice just having a counterpoint to Amazon's used marketplace. A way for me to compare used prices on a number of books easily. The more competition, the better for the consumer.
I'll tell you, the college textbook market is still a racket.
It always is.
I'm thankful I don't deal with that anymore.
It's only worse in the digital age -- online components that are limited use/time-locked. Forced textbook rentals.
I encourage the youth of america to get what they want out of college. It really is a unique experience. But most importantly, they get -out of college-.
I was lucky (low amount of loans, good employment).... and it took me nearly 8 years to pay off my debt.
@grave crest I use these sites for comparison among used sellers: http://www.addall.com/ http://www.bookfinder.com/ A lot of these sellers are on Amazon, but not all.
@grave crest Me too, 7 years at $62.65/mo. and worth every penny.
Of course that was 1977 - 1984.
Things are a bit different these days.
BOY are they different.
Try close to $500/month
And like I said, I was VERY lucky. It easily could have been 4x that amount.
It was an eBay company right?
I aggressively paid that burden off, after sticking with a job I didn't truly enjoy (but paid well)..which it ruffles my feathers a tiny bit when I hear youngsters demanding their debt be forgiven "just because".
@indigo jetty Yepper
But not an auction-based business.
Student loans is something I struggle to get my head around
Fees for college /University in Ireland basically don't exist in comparison
2k per year I think (they have risen since I was there)
Government will pay for citizens fees above that, so doesn't matter if you are doing an economics degree or something more expensive like medicine it's the same
But even without the subsidy it would be maybe 8k a year for engineering
Computer science graduates get paid a good bit more in the US than here, and you pay less tax
So I guess everything probably balances out eventually
My two boys went to U of I and we now have $1600/mo. Way out of control.
That's crazy
I had around 40k of debt. I went to a private school, which are MUCH more expensive in the states than a state school. 40k of debt is nothing. I aggressively competed for scholarships, obtained grants and low-interest federally-backed loans (no private loans).
For comparison, one year of schooling cost ~40k.
After I graduated, I worked -hard- to whittle down my debt as fast as I safely could. I kept 10-15k in my bank acct as a "rainy day emergency fund"....and every penny after that went to my debt.
In my final year of college after that 1k fee (at the time it was 1k), I think including accommodation I spent 500 euros a month or so on college. But it was living as cheap as possible as times weren't great money wise (2008)
First 3 years after graduation I only made basic payments...but after that, in the last 4-5 years, I was able to aggressively attack that debt.
40k, that's so crazy to me, I can only imagine the pressure that puts people under
40k is nothing. I had peers with over 4x that amount. In private loans, which MUCH higher interest rates than 2-5%
Me and my girlfriend had a nice rainy day fund for the last few years something that is very important to me as my dad invested all his money he made into property and got stung very badly, which is something I never wanted to happen. We have used some of it for our wedding though
When I was in college (2003-2007), I worked as an RA (room and board and books coverred) and sold used TVs on the side (CRT TVs...this was before LCDs took over)....I bought them from an electronics recycler, and resold them on Craigslist for some extra spending cash.
Even still though, we don't have any debt at all, which is also important to me!
If I didn't, I'd easily have an extra 10k per year additional to pay.
That's awesome @grave crest
I repaired Nintendo ds and other consoles during college as my side earner
Bought lots of them for parts from Ebay us too as the exchange rate was very favorable and they were region free
It's a hustle, but it keeps a little bit of cash in the pocket.
It's so easy to slip....to think "well I'm already in SO MUCH debt. I can't even see sunlight anymore. What's the harm of a little more?"
The only thing I ever hope to borrow for is a house
My program was a 5 year program. I NOPE'D right outta that, did everything I could to make it a 4-year. My federal loans only covered four years....the 5th year would have decimated my wallet.
Our college is a lot more structured than yours is from what I can gather
There is no picking up modules or whatever
Oh ours was structured....very much so. I just manipulated and weaseled and bargained my way to make it a 4-year.
If your first year computer science your doing this set of classes
Brought in AP credits, did classes alongside a co-op, co-ops + classes during the summer, etc.
I don't take "no" kindly, when it's a $40k "no".
"You're not allowed to do that."
....watch me.
I'm "paying" 40k a year to your institution. I'm going to get what I need, in the way I need it.
lol. I'm a trouble maker.
In other off topic news, I'm pretty certain I'm suffering from caffeine withdrawals
I think I was drinking too much in work
So I've cut it out
I was feeling pretty unwell in the evenings and weekends
When I wasn't drinking much at all (compared to work)
I'd say instead of a cup of coffee, have a cup of green tea instead. A fraction of the caffeine with a ton of healthier benefits.
Yeah that's what I've been doing, but I think I'll have a week of hardtimes
It's crazy the effect it has on you
The thing that bothers me the most is "fogginess", it's super hard to concentrate!
Hmm, that happens as I get older...stress, age, etc. Forget about caffeine intake.
I used to pride myself in hunkering down and really studying a topic for hours on end.
Now, I'm lucky if I get 2 hours consecutively, and they're certainly not as intensely productive.
"This online course will take ~10 hours per week of effort, plus lab time."
So, which 3 days do I not want to sleep....hmmm....
Getting older? Now there's a topic I can talk about.
The only good thing about it is that it makes for a good excuse.
Slipping on the ice as a kid? Pick yourself back up.
Slipping on the ice as an adult? Call out for 2-3 days because you can barely move.
Your as young as you feel
As a kid, ya slid on purpose.
I feel pretty old right now 😂
I miss being fearless

Happily single. Cheaper that way.
@grave crest You have no idea how much cheaper...

D day?
Realistically, here in the states, if you can hold a B average during High School, you can go to a lot of very good state schools practically for free
Getting married on the 17th of November @gray pilot
@indigo jetty Congrats. Big move. Good move. Have kids. They're sooooo cool.
@indigo jetty and I just switched order
He's got a kid and is getting married soon. I got married, now I could have a baby any day now
There's no way the baby won't be born by the 17th though lol
Thanks @indigo jetty!
Just a heads up that I found the first few weeks quite hard, and you'll have everyone telling you it's the greatest thing ever, and I that made it even harder.
Hopefully it's different for you. Not looking for any sympathy or anything I know I got the easier end of the stick when it comes to the gender game for babies but it was just very tiring to go to work, do whatever shopping and cooking needing to be done, give me mammy a break (normally when baby was crying). And then at the weekend when you want to do nothing, mammy wants to do anything!
From talking to people since, it's not uncommon and for me once my daughter could smile back at me everything got so much easier! (and when my girlfriend could drive again!)
Not trying to scare you or anything, I just never really see anything along those lines and I remember feeling bad about it.
@vast condor Warning! When your child arrives, be aware, there is no, I repeat, no switch to turn it on or off. 😃
I'm sure @indigo jetty will confirm this phenomenon.
Haha noted from both of you.
I'm grateful that'll I'll at least have 2-3 weeks off work.
Wooo, 2-3 weeks because........
Im allowed to take off up to 6 months, but I only get paid for what I have in vacation time.
Unless the Dr writes something, then I can use sick time.
Oh, I see. That's a lot different then when we had kids.
Times change.
Which is fine.
Yeah. It's pretty cool more places are offering stuff like that
It's becoming much more common
Good, because there is nothing more important especially at this, shall we say, boot-up time?
Yeah, for sure.
Remember to teach your children how to correctly spell "Dad". As mine will say "G", "O", "D".

One of the most highly-cited drawbacks to the HoloLens is its limited field of view (FOV), but now it appears that Microsoft has solved that problem. Based on patents filed in April with the World Intellectual Property Organization and discovered via MSPoweruser, the method involves splitting an image and projecting the two separate components then combining them. The inventors, Microsoft optical engineers Tuomas Vallius and Jani Tervo, were able to achieve at least 70 degrees FOV, even if the individual components were only able to support 35 degrees (or the FOV of the current HoloLens

anybody else want to play pubg <@&355854283410898955> ?
This is funny:
@sleek urchin razer phone is $699 for EU and US
okay, that's not terrible spec wise for that price
that's actually pretty good
still approx. twice as much as I'd ever care to spend on a phone
the phone have 120Hz screen
1440p 120Hz, yes
think about it its gaming monitor in the phone
but I have no clue what media a Snapdragon 835 could render in that
is there a point?
G-Sync monitor but made to phone
with nvidia g-sync and made to the phone the screen sync with phone gpu
except that's not going to happen
because that would involve a propritary Nvidia GPU
which the Snapdragon 835 does not have
they made similar happen with qualcomm for phones
still G-sync tech as it means screen refreshrate is in sync with the gpu
No, it's very specific hardware that has to be used
Adaptive Sync is part of the VESA standard, on which AMD's FreeSync is based
G-Sync has specialized, expensive components that must be included in display controller designs
and only works with nvidia GPUs
have you check laptops what have g-sync?
they don't actually have gsync
they have g-sync
Nvidia uses "g-sync", but what they're actually using is adaptive sync
which is part of the VESA spec.
calling it G-Sync is purely marketing on their part, but it's nowhere near the same capabilities as the hardware solution in discrete monitors
no it's real
Even if you can sync the screen, that still leaves a weak mobile GPU to render all the graphics
It isn't a "mobile" GPU in the same sense as the discrete laptop variants.
with monitor it need to have the hardware in it but as mobile it remove the monitor specialize hardware ini that as more direct path can be used
in laptop similar
it's in G-Sync spec

Here's an opportunity to get a poster of the original Lady Ada (and others) and support public radio and the Nerdette Podcast. https://donate.chicagopublicmedia.org/give/nerdette/
Are you referring to the display connector, @lavish ridge ?
Floof spooder
@crude trench no
@lavish ridge vias?
@lavish ridge Vias. The ones that look just like holes are probably connecting to one of the inner layers of the PCB; not the top layer that you are seeing. A can't find the PCB layout, but according to this forum post, the RPi is a six-layer PCB. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=43940
I wonder if they have to use blind/buried vias, or if it's all straight through
A via or VIA (Latin for path or way, also known as vertical interconnect access) is an electrical connection between layers in a physical electronic circuit that goes through the plane of one or more adjacent layers.
Is Fusion 360 not free for hobby use any more? I just created a video using it, and when I went to find the link to add, I can't find the hobby/startup option on the site.
Found it. It's weird that they don't mention it on the main site anywhere that I can find, but apparently it is still an option when registering from the trial software

@sturdy oyster some of the auto desk stuff got moved to tinkercad
Not sure that that did, but figured I'd mention it.
@vast condor interesting. I'll have to look at that, thanks. I've never messed with tinkercad, so I'll have to look at that.
@sturdy oyster You're welcome! Yeah, I didn't either until they moved Circuits.io there.
Gotta boast, usually I get like a necktie or some cologne or some socks for the birthday, but today, my daughter just gave me a gift cert for Adafruit. Wooo. Brilliant choice!
So when folks ask you what you want for Christmas, point them to Adafruit. Done.
@crude trench I've just been asking for Adafruit gift certs the last couple Christmases, it's worked out great!
Sweet!
Yeah, I asked the parental units for a waveform generator for Christmas....they looked at me....well, like they normally do. That quizzial, puzzled look...as if a puppy heard a curious noise.
@spice moss I got to mess with a HoloLens the other day at a conference. It's pretty good. Gesture is a little glitchy, but the headset was comfortable and the display is nicely done.
Now we need a holodeck.
Aw, foo. I need to make four Raspberry Pi SD cards and I can't find the card reader. Which, of course. I will find now that I've ordered a new one from Amazon.... 😃

Ooooh, built my computer vision platform from Adafruit this morning (Pi3, camera, Pimoroni PanTiltHat, and an Adafruit mini pan/tilt system). Pan and Tilt controls are working. Now I'll be distracted by OpenCV all day.....
Awesome @polar wraith ! Keep us posted. I'm looking at using a similar setup, except with a PWM driver in place of the hat. Are you using the official Pi Camera? If so, how are you mounting to the pan/tilt contraption?
@sturdy oyster The hat comes with a camera mount for the official Pi camera.
I think still piCam isnt supported by Windows 10 IoT Core
Oh, well, there ya go. That's super handy @polar wraith . I was hoping you would say "Oh, there's this item on thingiverse..." 😃
I was really surprised to not be able to find a clip in piece for attaching the pi camera.
I know, right? I looked, too.
@sturdy oyster BTW, I'm going to be building the PWM driver version too, since this month's HackerBox was on OpenCV and has this really stout pan/tilt system included.
oh sweet!
@sturdy oyster This is really easy once you get the libraries and dependencies installed. I have the pan/tilt system working, and my Python control program can take a picture and import it into OpenCV. Now to work on the image recognition parts!
Neat
Oooh, just had a thought. I can get an Adafruit light sensor and use the light levels and color values to set the white balance and ISO programmatically! #ScopeCreep
@polar wraith Fancy stalking! 😉
@stray wind Yeah kinda sorta, isn't it? The really creepy one was my rover, which I had programmed to take a picture if someone tweeted "take a picture" at it. It would then tweet back the image. I creeped out myself on that and turned it off. 😃
@polar wraith You know it's bad when you creep yourself out.
@stray wind Inded! LOL
@blazing pond I’m free for the next few hours if you wanna play
Yeah sure! <@&355854283410898955> Let's do some PUBG
K will go fire things up
@stray wind I made Stranger Things Christmas lights last Halloween that would blink out "Trick or Treat" repeatedly. My wife made me turn them off because they creeped her out. This year I added SMS support but they only blink if someone sends a text, so she let me keep them up.
@keen hedge lol yeah! I saw them on Show and Tell! Somehow less creepy when someone's controlling them I guess, eh?
I dunno, maybe a little MORE creepy because you don't know what the message will be! But I think it was the (somewhat) constant blinking out of the corner of her eye that she found unsettling.
Fair enough 😄
@keen hedge how can you say that without sharing the number to text to 😉
@gray aspen pubg?
😄
@gray aspen Ha! Good question! I did post to Facebook on Halloween so friends could text. I got a number of "likes" but only one text!
I even live-streamed it with the Stranger Things soundtrack playing so people could see their own messages.
@gray aspen we should wait to start the game shortly?
So Im unable to upload to my Uno, anyone able to help
@tardy pilot I'll give it a shot. I assume you're using the Arduino IDE for this? Is it giving you an error?
Also, Windows, Mac, or Linux?
Mac, I have a Elegoo Uno R3
Ah, ok. I'll see if I can help. Is it showing up as /dev/ttyA<something>?
Haha found it out, it was the port
Glad you got it to work!
Thanks man!
No worries. You did all the work! 😃
BTW, on my Mac the port often would spontaneously flip between 1411 and 1412, so watch for that if you suddenly have troubles.
Ok
Does anyone know anything about connecting arduinos and pis?
@tardy pilot I use I2C in one of my projects, and I’ve seen straight serial used as well. MagPi had an article on that in the Sept 2017 issue.
So now that Halloween is over, I thought I could re-focus on my last “summer problem.” Basically the problem statement was, “why does my quadcopter randomly lose connection with the controls and fall out of the sky?” Used the phones camera and zoom feature and found the following which I’m sure some of you will relate to...
@narrow steeple That'll do it!
<@&355854283410898955> anybody playing pubg?
@stuck moth Do you play that on your macbook pro, or do you have a gaming desktop?
Yeah, I've been toying with the idea of a windows gaming machine for a bit. My 2013 mbp chokes on Rocket League on minimum settings.
yeah, I've had a windows box just for gaming for ages
just updated it a few months ago
It's a bit intimidating though, I've been out of the PC-building hobby for a long time. A plethora of choices makes for decision paralysis
And to be fair, most of my gaming is indie games and emulation -- the sort of indie games that are ported to ipad routinely.
(though back in the day, I was pretty solid on Unreal Tournament 2004. Won more than one LAN party tournament with Onslaught mode)
....goodness I feel old now.
😃
pc part picker is super cool
and I watched a number of tech deals videos
I have a friend about to build one and hes going with the new intel core i5
@stuck moth I'll see if I can bring in the other two gaming with me to this discord
@gray aspen k, I'll switch comps. I can go to different server if need be too
gonna finish a round with them and have them join @clear pier and @astral hull
k, I have to be ready to go leave in 90 minutes so I only have time for a couple games
Hi
Hi
hi hi
Hm. It would be really useful if the bot gave feedback about why it flagged your message for language. This is the second time I've been left thinking "I didn't swear, did I?" and not being able to review what I wrote.
Anyway, I am really plugged in to PC building and dang good at it, so if anyone ever wants help with parts picking, feel free to hit me up
Heck
I've been flagged a few times, and I'm often left wondering....hmm. Did I let something slip? No, I'm usually pretty careful about what I say. Usually.
well the thing that sounds like the thing beavers build does it
Double-U Tee Eff hits it. Unfortunately some acronyms have too many meanings
Who knows with bots though
Robots, they mean well.
but they'll snap your neck in a half second if you get in the way? =p
the cages are for OUR safety.
I'm reading Soonish which includes things on AI
it's a good book that I think people here would like
The language filter is especially rough because while I don't swear often, I'm used to communities where swearing as an intensifier is common
Like, living in New York :v
Just have to remember that Adafruit also markets itself to a lot of younger folks as well
I got on the wait list for a digital copy of Autonomous from my library after an Adafruit post about it, and then forgot I did, and it came in tonight
Give an 8 year old an Arduino... et al.
If it flies on Cartoon Network during prime time, it should be allowed, harumph harumph
yep! I'm good with not swearing, but the filter does get me sometime
I'm good = I'm fine with
not "I am proficient with", always 😃
So many shiny tablets I want
Why do I want more tablets?
I only use mine for ebooks and emulation >_<
I even said "heck" the last time I accidentally touched my soldering iron tip
h*ck
cr*key
Gotta avoid the AvE-isms though!
Oh jeepers, yes
I do like the angry pixies, though. I use that more than magic smoke
Nooo, must not buy vacuum tubes https://www.ebay.ca/itm/DIY-6J1P-Valve-Vacuum-Tube-for-PreAmplifier-Board-Headphone-Amplifier-Module/112486574842
@blazing pond It will filter out what it sees as a curse, even if it is in the middle of another word. It's basically just kinda good a playing regex golf. If you find something that you think it shouldn't be filtering, let us know.
Problem is it deletes your message, so I can't remember what I wrote verbatim very reliably
We can go look at the logs, @blazing pond
That's kind of a roundabout way to give users feedback, is all I'm saying
Aye,....
@blazing pond It doesn't actually tell us what it flagged though, it's kinda odd like that.
In this case you can kinda tell. 😃
.... What would happen if I changed my nickname to a filtered word?
Do you really want to try?
I managed to resist temptation
I have to admit, there have been more than a few times where I've had to adjust what I've typed for the chat room.
I sometimes get... verbose, especially when frustrated.
wanna see something funny? Open the emoji window, and look at the text for this one 💩
Holy smokes! 105 BILLION for Qualcomm?
@viscid folio I just read your old bio. I didn't know you were into glassblowing! There's an amazing Dale Chihuly museum here in Seattle....
...and tacoma
So I got a new drawin program and decided to mess with it.
