I'm not too wrong:
*Prior to the Cambrian explosion,[note 2] most organisms were simple, composed of individual cells occasionally organized into colonies. * -Wikipedia
so that's only (haha) some 560 mya (give or take, what, 40 my).
1 ly: 5 878 625 373 000 miles. five point eight trillion miles
Take 186,000 miles per second; multiply by 60 seconds per minute; by 60 minutes per hour; by 24 hours per day and by 365.25 days per year -- then compare with the Google-generated constant (shown above). Pretty close.
Talk about your "When are we gonna get there, Mom?"
270,000 AU. 7000 sol-pluto distances (40 AU apiece). To nearest star (besides our sun, as someone pointed out to me once).
some twenty-five trillon miles
Well, I mean, I agree but...
"non-living visitors such as robots" ... In other words, we won't travel between stellar systems until we become capable of changing ourselves to make the travel possible.
I would go with 'unless and until' there. 😉
Biological living things bigger than tardigrades won't travel between plans, but "we" still might, depending on whether you consider a later and less biological form of human consciousness to still be "us".
er, 'stars', not plans. 😃
I
I travel between plans daily!
haha.
Right of course. But ..
The Simulation Argument implies that if we could in the future, we already have in the past.
In other words we are already A.I. right now, if ever we shall be.
https://www.simulation-argument.com/
Is that true of other similar advances?
Did the first cellular living things say to themselves "If we are ever going to be multicellular, they we are already multicellular?"
Not even close in analogy. I am personally positing that a simulated reality is also an A.I. engine.
I don't know if The Argument says that much. I say that much, though. 😉
It just seems to follow: similating the world wouldn't be a dead automatonic kind of endeavour.
The basis of Bostrom's Simulation Argument is numerical.
This seems to me to be sort of argument that appears relevant right up until there is a series of escalating incremental advances that leads to AI or non-biological copies of human minds.
At that point life becomes so interesting that the fact that we might still be living in a simulation becomes a less pressing concern.
I believe Bostrom is saying that the odds of being in an 'original' Universe, versus a simulated one, are very low.
(it is assumed it is difficult to tell, if you are inside a simulation)
Yes, I get the arguement from probability.
Does it follow that we are probably also Boltzmann Brains, experiencing hallucinations?
Er, not "also" ... that would be weird.
Same class of rather uncompelling argument though.
So. Far more likely you and I are robots in another part of the Milky Way galaxy, arguing over whether or not we are those flesh humans that lived .. a very long time ago, and only once.
Either that, or we are us (flesh) and no robots: not now; not later. (a.i. robots -- simulated beings).
The argument is clear, but it is difficult to falsify either possible outcome except by proceeding as if the argument were not true.
So, I shall!
Haha.
I think it's a religion thing here.
Do you think you are real?
that kind of thing.
If I start assuming I'm not real, soon enough I won't be.
Regardless of whether I was right.
If I assume I am real, but I am not, little harm will be done by continuing.
I figure on everything being as real as it gets.
Everything I've encountered and sense that I've verified it 'sufficiently' to present purposes.
I'm a toe-stubbing realist (whatever that word was meant to mean, I only mean what I mean it to mean hahah).
I think that things are exactly as they appear to be.
It's not that they have to be exactly as they appear.
I also think that implies strong A.I. isn't possible to achieve.
It's just that's the most sensible way to proceed.
You could say that Bostrom's argument sealed my doubt.
Perhaps you will turn out to be right. What important thing will we discover in the attempt to achieve strong AI?
We'll learn something important about consciousness?
I'm not in any way suggesting not to try to do it.
We'll realize chimpanzees deserve human rights?
I'm just saying: I wouldn't personally stake my hopes on it.
Hopes schmopes. 😃
I think a lot people talk a lot of malarky about it. I still want to hear from the remaining few. 😉
Real transhumanists are generally talking malarky. Because we're not at the point yet where we can see over the intervening hill.
A very good example are the Elon Musk and Google self-piloting automobiles.
You think driving a car is Strong AI?
No! I think they are great examples of real machine intelligence.
hahaha.
Can we make AIs as smart as an ant colony?
Very well put.
If so, we're going to do (have them do) amazing things.
I notice ants haven't invented Strong AI yet.
As far as I can tell.
Now you're just being clever.
Don't say 'just' -- being clever is often the high point of my day, nis.
My mom used to say "Don't get smart with ME, young man!"
Hah!
So I would make a face of a 'stupid' person.
My parents were very smart but very concrete.
I just don't see any point to working on a project that has no goal-point one could achieve.
Here's the thing. 1) understanding human cognition and consciousness is a pre-requisite (or is not, who knows?) to strong AI, but that's not why we do it.
I'm perfectly okay with someone building something -- anything --- that has a definite goal (a point where one can say "That's what I wanted to build: there it is, right in front of you") followed by, perhaps "Go ahead, try it!"
- Strong AI may well be built (or never built) out of a network of "artificial stupidity" components working together and feeding back and across each other, but we need those "artificial stupidity" modules anyway, even if there is no hope of real AI.
Of course (to your last utterance). However ..
So, like human interstellar travel, we're not at the point yet where we waste resources taking those steps.
Oh I was going to say about weaponizing the understanding of cognition.
and surviving /that/.
Aye. Good luck, all of us.
what if the very first truly strong A.I. also happens to function as a mind-destroyer?
Maybe in A.I. school, that's A.I. 101: all these must be mind-destroyers to also be A.I.
I'm getting a little out of hand here but I think I had a reasonable (but unexpressed) point to make about that.
I guess I'll use the simpler fall-back (plot of many fictions) and suggest that in the process of building this stuff, we may not survive it (meaningfully). Maybe that's the very nature of the world: we build our replacements, who are not us, who are not of value to us in quite the same way as we value our species as-is-now. Nah, I'm still side-swiping this.
I have to go take care of flesh-and-blood offspring who will replace me. Good chatting with you, nis. Thanks for the food for thought.
Hey thanks, eastpole. Keep them advised! They are our replacements!

Just watched a video of a drone with 8 motors that flies in the air and goes underwater, underwater it tilts.... so cool
@idle iron share!
cool @idle iron in the video they have it tethered, so im assuming the issues are wireless?
Yay, nachos.
lucky! I miss eating chips :<
why no chips @abstract violet ?
Turns out spicy salsa in the morning can make you sick.
Probably doesn't help that this is the only thing I ate today.
@indigo jetty can't have anything with a lot of carbs atm
pokes at it oooh 😃 is this the password manager? what's that sticking out near the pins ;3
Yes, it is

I don't know what that is, or what it does, but it looks neat.
@runic elbow we're watching @tiny moat 's live feed and chatting in the Marie Curie voiced channel
Oh cool
Adam is repairing a high voltage unit for his SEM.
SEM = Scanning Electron Microscope
Sounds awesome.
@tiny moat Sorry about the drop-out. My comcast went down in the area. Just got it back. Looks like things finished up real nice. Did ya find the acrylic screw? :))
@gray pilot no, but I found a stainless one that will work.

Hello !
How many of you like the idea of directly connecting the mobile to power supply (I.E. Connecting the pins of battery connector in mobile directly to a power supply with step down circuit providing 3.7V) and Partioning you SD Card and adding extra RAM !
Later Updating to Nougat !
☺
@bold turtle ah sorry I missed it >.< -- finished cooking at 23:50 and passed out shortly after 🤣

[silence from the bot]
What command is it to view number of users?
?help
You can just look at the user list and add the online and adafruit user counts. 😃
Less helpful if you're writing a program, though....
But I want to see registered to this server.
Ahhhhh, sorry. I made an incorrect assumption.
I really REALLY need to work on the bot this weekend.

I was planning on going to Radio Shack today... but apparently the 11 in my town are all permently closed down. Did something happen to Radio Shack I don't know about?
they closed 😄
but yeah, they're going out of business
or most of them are? definitely the one closest to me
sadly, even most of the stuff I got at a discount there was still more expensive (and lower quality) than adafruit stuff
i just need a 2 pin JST female connector...
yeah, being able to just stop in somewhere would be nice
yeah looked on radio shack website nearest one is now 70 miles away
@idle iron RC hobby shop?
Im gana look to see if the local electronic shop is still open "Sparky Electronics", then if not then ill just take the 2 pin connector off my GPU fan and just solder the fan back on....
@tiny moat yeah I'm thinking RC hobby shops will have it for sure.
@tiny moat do you ahve a recording of your stream? I'm curious how it went with having discord voice chat going
@idle iron Amazon?
i ended up cutting a micro usb charger and using it with a improvised battery pack, so far no issues when using it
to power Circuit Playground Express
I must have missed the back story on this @idle iron ,why not use micro USB to power it or a LiPo?
i was using a micro USB to power it but i want it portable, I dont have any LiPo laying around... but i had some other junk... so i just used what i had
i would have went to radio shack to get what i need but the 11 in my town are all closed now... someone suggested a RC shop.... ive never been to one
all i wanted was a 2pin connector to make a custom battery pack but im not willing to pay shipping on a 0.10 part
Heard that. Resourceful.
over all im happy with what i got going, just have to disconnect battery pack when i connect to pc.... the battery pack doesnt lock in there but the PC usb does... kind feel like i might brake it when i disconnect it from the pc
Need to Jerry rig a interrupt switch.
only switch i have is 10A 120V... kinda big for this
usually i work with A/C
im trying to learn circuitpython right now, was gana try learn arduino but couldnt get it to work but circuitpython is working.... just have to find like a bible or something with refrences to what things do
What problems did you have with getting Arduino to work?
"error: libraries\Adafruit_CircuitPlayground\utility\ffft.S.o: Conflicting CPU architectures 12/0"
awesome @idle iron !
couldnt get the sketch to work
https://circuitpython.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ is a good API reference
i tried uploading anyways and got the text to speach to kinda work but i could tell it wasnt working right the first neopixel was orange and blinding me
there are also a number of learn guides: https://learn.adafruit.com/search?q=circuitpython&
i did that
but i still dont understand
woo! thats a start
like for "import digitalio" what all can it do?
how do i turn off the green on light...
the on light can't be changed but the D13 led can
mkay good to know, so im not searching for something not possible
A start indeed. I get my M0 next week and will be doing some heavy learning/tinkering. I'll try to document some simple stuff I learn that isn't already in a learning guide.
Ton'ys digitalio video from last week is really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJJ4WkPRddc
Live stream to http://twitch.tv/adafruit showing how to use digital I/O (inputs and outputs) with CircuitPython! Learn what a digital input and output is, an...
hes doing analogio right now I think
I have servos, LEDs, sensors everywhere, all kinds of stuff I can learn to control when I get my board.
That's great. So many resources
I will watch that video tonight for sure.
😃
Did my first escape room tonight. Now I'm thinking about all the things I can do of my own.
I know there are a lot of cool things on the blog
If I can think of something to do with the circuit playground maybe I can get double extra credit...
Actually I bet with all those sensors I could make a puzzle box with like five layers...
that sounds fun, can i test it out?
Neopixels are blinding.... so bright, very very bright... need sunglasses
or eclipse glasses?
Given the recent talk of the sun, I decided to take on a solar project
Not sure what I want to make yet.
@idle iron its more than just oregon but its closest for me. I'm just gonna see most of it from my house
yeah its like from one side of USA to the other, kinda far from where i am in Cali though....
circuitpython seems to be easy to use, got PuTTY serial working... The videos on learning this stuff by Tony D are full of info... Easy to understand and really explained well.
glad you like them @idle iron
was looking into Smart Eyes and came across these funny dudes on the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9WnTjhkyUg
Sony recently filed a patent on contact lens technology, joining the short list of tech giants that have done so, including Google and Samsung. According to ...
That looks awesome.
@idle iron looking at that makes my eyes feel itchy!
Working on two versions of the same project at once on CPX, makecode and circuitpython. I like how the python stuff doesn't get deleted when i switch over to makecode.

That's Vancouver Town Hall right?
@lethal plank yup!
On CPX when I use makecode I get some crazy noise on A0, but not when I use circuitpython. So much noise just touching it I can feel it shock me also makes the speaker quietly buzz. Any fix for this?
There is a fix in CircuitPython for the speaker buzzing...it turns it off by default... I wonder if makecode needs this by default, except that it would need to turn it back on if needed by code.
^ @stuck moth This is the fix, right? https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/issues/126
@bold turtle What is that?
That's my password keeper... FINALLY able to load the config for stuff off the SD card, instead of having to reflash the firmware to change stuff
well, to change what stuff the buttons type
Nice, so it's a circuit python password keeper?
No, Arduino
Ah...
Circ Py is not quite there yet for doing this much drawing quickly on that big of a screen
yeah, understood.
(the fact that I'm doing the testing code on my m0 express will not be mentioned in the hearing range of a certain AdaFruitian in the PNW, lest he decide to excommuicate me for sacrilige 😉 )
Yes you are right @dusty citrus
going to work on an RNG based game and call it "Serendipity", may claim it's for psychic training 🤑

Done.
Spent the last 3 hours trying to toggle a pin on a SAMD21 chip. Atmel was able to read the ID so soldering shouldn't be an issue, but I couldn't toggle the pin no matter what I tried in Arduino or in Atmel studio.

Just a heads up, eventuantually I'm going to be changing my name to "Lemon Man". Just a warning to prevent any confusion.
I can't tell if that is cute or terrifying.
@runic elbow porque no los dos?
I'm sorry, what?
is that an octopus?
@runic elbow Sorry... semi-local thing. Literally "Why not both"
Oh, ok.
Oh, by the way, although it is already obvious, I have changed my name to Lemon Man.
why? Peppercatt is better.
No idea.
Hmmn...
It's an Adventure Time reference.
oh. ok
See, now, in my head, peppercat and lemon man are combining in my head to become sour puss.....
Oh god.

Iz is one of the toys I got last year, it really fun to play with, you can mix and match music with him and u can plug you ipod into him too. hes so awsome!!...
I remember these being quite popular.
I have one of those in the other room!!!
red like the one in that video
glares at dyno
Before that video the one have was the only one I'd ever seen
I kind find it weird how it just stopped existing after three years on sale.
Like, a whole bunch of people seemed to like them, then no one talked about them anymore. And they were never sold again.
ok, just ordered a ryzen 5
how big SSD?
I don't expect to ever be able to update the cpu without mobo and ram as well
the one it has is 256G
I have started to look 512G minumum
I'm more interested in ultrawide than 4k
HDR?
maybe, depends on when I buy it
I bought a 27" monitor from Korea eBay 5 or 6 years ago and it's still going strong
It was pretty good at the time
Ips panel and 2560x1440 resolution or something, which was massive at the time
It was a weird time, an equivalent monitor in Europe would have been minimum €600 and this was less than €300
yeah, my primary is a dell 25" 1440p now
dean at adafruit has an ultrawide dell though and it looks awesome
I actually use a TV I dn't watch. It does just fine
age of empires get definite edition from old ones and IV is coming too
New addition for my office
A dedicated high chair (bear is only on loan from my daughters room)
cool! graet pic!
It really was spectacular. I always thought the corona pictures you see in textbooks were through a telescope or specialized hardware
But no, that's really what it looks like
My pic is at a really small focal length in order to fit the ground and sky in at the same time, so it doesn't wuite do it justice.
I'm a little jealous. I had to use my pinhole box
I'm really glad I took the drive up to see totality.
I got 98% at my house
But totality is completely different from any percentage
It's absolutely crazy
After watching the video streams today I can't wait for 2024.
it will be 98% where I live but I think I will drive the few hours to get 3min of totality
98% looks like nothing but dim sunlight. It's interesting and all, but it just feels like wearing sunglesses.
I remeber it being wierd that it got noticably colder (but I could be imagining that, it was 20 years ago or so 😛 )
yeah, it was definitely chillier here
It definitely does get colder

I stayed up to late, its going to be a long day
Also spotify web player absolutely loves trying to play music out over my phones speakers, its a weird "feature" that it tries to default to your phone
yeah, but it seems to do it by default
it do default what is your latest connection from the device i think
So like I might have been listening to spotify on my phone hours ago, then go to listen on the webplayer and it will start playing on the phone
lets say you use spotify connect to your mobile speakers then it should play there if webplayer see it
yeah I think its cool that you can control it from the web player, but just the fact it defaults to the phone seems bad design to me
a few times last night I managed to blare music out of my phone speakers by mistake
now it's in Xbox too
so you can play your music from phone to xbox so your webplayer should see it too
yeah I've been using the PS4 version of it for a while
I mainly use an Amazon Echo as my speaker
if im not listening via headphones
yeah it seems to load kind of slow though, so you can press play before you see its connected to something else
im not sure
I just know I have done it way more than I should have
@indigo jetty so you could do in mobile to switch connect device to ps4 for example and then webplayer if you press play on webplayer
it could be that by default spotify account where you listened previously so it keeps it by default place to listen
hey Sims 4 gets Dogs and Cats expansion so you could have #334806266327072770 and #pet-photos from the game
@polar wraith Im looking at your Circuit playground video on youtube (it autoplayed after your newest video)
Its really good (the audio is a bit noisey, but the format and content)
Thank you, @indigo jetty!
That darn bot!
Heh. I haven't unpacked him yet since the move....
Im currently on a youtube autoplay journey
currently watching JP circuit playground password vault
I haven't watched that one, but I'm really interested in it.
I'm not sure I would ever use what he made
but there is some interesting things he does it in it
like copper tape to extend the touch sensors
re totality, Buffalo is under it in 2024 and I am v excited
I'm a little late in posting these since I was stuck in a traffic nightmare yesterday coming back to Chicago from Southern Illinois to view the eclipse. Anyways, here are a couple of photos of the eclipse as viewed near Makanda, IL.
Crescent shadows
Taken during totality
So yesterday I didn't think my puppy would stare at the sun. She has a penchant for being not as bright as the other dog. I let her out, turned around and she was staring right at it. Had to yank her away really quickly
she doing alright @viral spruce ?! :<
We have a saying in Ireland, she'll be better before she's twice married
It's an old saying that predates divorce legalisation
@abstract violet i haven't bottomed out on that lens on the pi camera test yet. One thing for sure is it will need something to support the lens clip
Was thinking of using it for the rpi camera on my octoprint setup
As it can't be clipped directly onto the camera board (might knock off a component)
I'm using an old webcam
From an Xbox 360 of all places
oh, wha for kinect?
@indigo jetty Reuse ALL the electronics!
No before kinnect
ah!
@bold turtle agreed 😃 although i have more controllers than i have use for XD
perks up
@indigo jetty Oooh yeah that! -- looks cool 😄
Wha... what kind of controllers, @abstract violet ...?
They sold them off for a couple of dollars at stage so I bought a couple
@bold turtle I have ps3/ps4/xbox one (mostly for pc), steam controller, and some random stuffs in storage
@indigo jetty yeah, really useful for projects other than original purpose.. using a an old microsoft cam as a secondary octoprint camera
@abstract violet Well, if you have to, I'll be helpful and take the extras off your hand....
@bold turtle when I do the long overdue spring cleaning ill think boutcha
@abstract violet yeah, she's fine somehow
maybe Pooch eyes aren't as fragile?
I have no idea how dogs work
@viral spruce and they're IMPOSSIBLE to get schematics for 😉
Hrm... i am missing a Pi
Nice eclipse totality photo by my nephew.
We have a video of transition to/from totality as well. This was a Panasonic DMC-FZ70 which has a 20-1200mm (full-frame equivalent) superzoom lens with a 60x zoom.
@ogredrew#6724 sorry, i got hungry
I definitely learned my lesson for photographing the eclipse. Next time I'm going to head somewhere that it will happen closer to the horizon.
It's easy to forget just how small the angular size of the sun and the moon really are.
I planned for it as much as I could, but still ended up with only about 30 pixels of sun
I could use my Pi for so much, create many things with it. And yet this is what I choose to do with it.
@hearty fiber Well, you didn't eat the pi, cuz I found it
Hey @night crescent, I've got a picture for you and Limor

@bold turtle I have the same carry-case for all of my tools , I like the little boxes/slots
@viral spruce Yeah, I ❤ it. Yay for harbor freight specials
(I live 2 miles from a harbor freight. This is a challenge)
There used to be none near me, then they opened one up and I was weak.
They have suuuuper cheap clamps
I may have bought 4 plastic ammo boxes for storing stuff in all in one go...
.... for 13$
tip: army supply stores have those, but metal, and $1/ea usually
Plastic is better in this case, and the only army supply store I know of around here is not somewhere I particularly care to be
There's a wicked large Army/Navy (mainly navy) surplus in Mystic, CT
AIRFOIL T-SHIRT - https://teespring.com/the-airfoil-t-shirt_copy_2 People often ask "can you fly that thing to work/school/the store?" Although it's not real...
@ogredrew#6724 are you set to invisible? Its hard to mention you
yeah doesnt seem to highlight at least
noticed the same earlier
I picked up there in ikea last week
pretty nice size
for storing shields etc
Also a few these, which are really handy for storing ongoing projects as the fit a half breadboard pretty nicely
@bold turtle works better now I think

my hobby: looking at everyone's profile and looking at their badges
Hey all. So I've joined the Tripoli Rocketry Association, which does high-powered rocketry. I am planning my first dual-deployment rocket (where a drogue chute comes out at apogee, slowing the rocket, and then a main chute comes out when the rocket falls to about 500 feet AGL). There are a number of commercial electronics packages available, but I look at the specs on all of them and think, "I can do better on my own." So I'm going to build a Feather M0/CircuitPython flight controller and data logger for a high-powered rocket. The one I'm planning to build is 4" in diameter and 6'2" tall, and it flies to about 4,500 feet on the smallest motor....
sounds awesome @polar wraith ! Will you have photos/videos ?
@abstract violet Absolutely! Here's the electronics BoM for the flight controller: http://www.adafruit.com/wishlists/443357
And here's the rocket I'm going to start with: https://www.locprecision.com/product/hyperloc-835/
oohhh! 😄 awesome -- 8) snakes on a rocket
what happened to the adafruit emoji's 😦
Confirmed. 😃
sounds like a really awesome project @polar wraith
🤔 I dont see any blinky lights on that list @polar wraith 😝
There's an OLED display for status. If you put holes in the side of the airframe the aerodynamic pressures can rip it open. I thought about status LEDs. I still might do that, but they'll be inside the rocket at launch.
what is a maker project without blinking lights
LOL!!! Oh, ok, I'll add blinking lights.
I would say do whatever is most aerodynamic!
what's the shell made of @polar wraith
Fiberglass-wrapped cardboard tube.
@polar wraith will this be on a youtube series 😉
Oh yes. I just got my new camera for YouTube videos!
curious how the electronics bay inside one would fit those components.. if that's what its used for
funny they call it E-Bay
xD
Right? 😃 The electronics bay is where you put the flight control hardware. It's sufficiently large that there shouldn't be any problem fitting in the components. The rocket itself is 4" in diameter....
sigh 😛
where is the launch site at?
Mansfield, WA.
@polar wraith have you seen demo of the rocket launch where was used Windows 10 Iot core and Entityframework
No! That would be interesting. I'm going to use CircuitPython for mine.
oooh far
circuitpython what get commands from pi what have windows 10 iot core
@abstract violet Yes, but these go high enough that you have to have an FAA waiver, 72 hour advance notice to SEATAC ATC, and a NOTAM. 😉
@polar wraith wears a helmet ⛑ 🤕
@polar wraith check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYa7EdMnP4E

I think I'm going to try do a live stream Saturday night (my time, maybe around 2 or 3 PM EST), it will be my first so if anyone has any pointers I'm all ears!
I want to cover using Sonoff devices (basically a relay with a esp8266)
@tender nimbus I've seen that story! It's fiction apparently
Fiction ?
@indigo jetty yeah luckily haha
You should do a livestream!
@tender nimbus that is was not a real story
@indigo jetty Be sure to put a reminder in here!
You guys will probably be my only viewers 😃
Well then you'll have a kind audience! 😉
😃
Side note: I planned out the high-power rocket build. I'll buy the parts in mid-September (budgetary reasons). This will give me a month and a half to build, program, and test it. The launch site is scheduled for early November. And speaking of rockets, SpaceX is launching a Falcon 9 from Vandenberg today; the launch window opens at 11:40 a.m. Pacific time. https://spacex.com/webcast
I'm going to create a blog for the build, starting with a Fritzing diagram of the control electronics. I'll upload the flight controller code to my GitHub account and share that, too, for anyone interested.
That's sounds really interesting @polar wraith
Thanks, @indigo jetty. I haven't seen "rocket flight controllers" on the Adafruit site yet. 😃
@viral spruce made the glow that would come off Rick's portal gun with makecode

@earnest turtle Welcome!
I'm currently working a bit on BATCH. And I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I have a VERY simple GUI put together.
Here's what I have, so far.
Here's a slightly less broken version of it.
@runic elbow have you tried python at all? then I could run it on my mac
I have done a bit on my Pi, but the keyboard for it won't work anymore. So Im doing stuff on my PC, now.
And that was for Minecraft Pi.
I have no idea how to get Python running on my PC.
@runic elbow https://www.python.org/downloads/windows/
the latest python 3
Yep. That's what I clicked.
perfect 😃
😃
hrm... apparently, i have managed to accidentially acquire UV reactive breadboard wires....
so is one of these two phil, and one all the adafruit peoples, or one troll, one real..etc? @night crescent @pure epoch
the first is phil
@idle iron YES! That's totally awesome, now you just need a prop

I've been a vegetarian since Jully, almost vegan. I do ocasionaly have milk and eggs, cause like all the best recipes call for it. People always ask "why?" Honistly I don't care about animals, I just have gotten sick of meat(steak atleast 6 meals a week for 29 years)
I'm doing the world a favor by not eating something I no longer care for, have done extensive research and know animals take exponentially more water to produce food then plants.
I just felt like sharing something random about me....
?whois @gloomy pilot
@idle iron your body, your life, your call. As long as you don't try to force it on anyone else, 👍
@idle iron i get similar "why's?" for not drinking alcohol, I don't have any good reason I just never got into it. I've no problem with other people drinking, I would never try convince anyone of anything, I even worked in a bar for years
I'm getting some things ready for the stream tomorrow, this will be main top down camera
😀
It's two gopro mounts attached to a desk microphone stand
I probably eventually should add a light ring around the camera but I won't have time tonight or tomorrow
Got my second led light today, one causes too much of a shadow so hopefully two will do the trick
May look kinda of silly, but a blu taced macro lens on an old Web camera is working surprisingly well
@indigo jetty cool set up!
@indigo jetty I found a comparable clip on lens for my rpi camera, now just to get it focused ...
Everytime my camera is focusing I think of another Canadian

I'm just finished my live stream, went OK. Few technical issues and I forgot a USB extension cable my male USB programer was really awkward to use
Hug report to @bold turtle for sticking with me the whole way anyways!
yay!
I'm tannewt_ on steam if you want to add me
@indigo jetty agh i missed it. how long was the stream on for?
3 hours!
I expected 2 tops
I had a driver issue that ment I needed to restart my PC
But I was streaming with that PC!
Cool!
I might play some later
I said I wouldn't play til I released another video, a stream counts right?
definitely!
@indigo jetty shall catch up with it 😃 been curious about them sonoff devices.. might play wif one
I see a Blue microphone. Nice.
Yeah I got a blue snow ball when I started making videos
I felt audio was pretty much the most import thing and the most often got wrong in videos
@abstract violet I'm not sure if I recommend it to be honest!
There are probably better ways to spend a few hours
haha 😃 what do you mean!
I got my son the same kind and he uses it all the time. Loves it.
Will do something less hard wary next stream
I spent a long time doing this 😱
One thing that I used that worked really well was the neopixel ring connected to telegram
I had friends watching the stream that would change the colour of the neopixels based on something needing my attention
@stuck moth dwmc = me
You mean the text would be parsed and then the ring would change accordingly
Now THAT'S a very clever idea. 💯
I was watching jp stream the other day and he didn't have his mic on the start and I thought it would be good to have a visual way of getting my attention
I already had it built for the learn guide I'm writing for it
Thanks @gray pilot
We could have used one of those for @night crescent on this weeks AaE too
@indigo jetty Yer Velcome.... better???

I actually haven't played in a few weeks. Not since I could honk I think!
I have fun though, so I don't mind
@elfin wave yeah, I was surprised. I got pretty lucky I think. I was being stealth
that was a nice stream, the trinket give away
If the multiverse theory is true, there is a universe in which it isn't.

@stuck moth sorry I'm only seeing this now. I left my game in after playing earlier. Hopefully will be on later though!
How are you liking it?
My steam is witnessmenow (I think 😀)

I shoot long over 2 hour Foam building Q Craft Firefly Alliance Cruiser. I need to timelapse it
@spice moss Do it!
in my Firefly cargo crate unboxing I said that i shoot a video about building it so now timelapse then upload
it's a bit too late now (obv.) but next time you're 'lapsing try out Hyperlapse (https://hyperlapse.instagram.com/). It does stabilization for you, it's buttery smooth
actually, how do you shoot your lapses?
I did timelapse kinda in before using Azure Media Services and Timelapse service
now just need to automize the process
ooh that's neat, let me know if you figure out how to automate it
@viral spruce check this out https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/media-services/media-services-hyperlapse-content
I am going to make logic app for it so it could even upload it to YouTube or instagram for example
Cedar, yer horrible
looks like pocked tablet with some buttons
Its a micro SD
@bold turtle Is that just a bitmap you drew in Paint or similar? Could you put the letters "SD" on it?
@fair summit drawn using adafruit_glx primitives
so you could paint text on top if you felt like it. It does look like a uSD card but it's hard to separate that from my expectations given our Adalogger discussions earlier today. Ask an innocent like a family member?
The only family member I have handy wouldn't know a uSD card from a toggle switch, so...
How about something like the 6th on the second row of sample icons?
Anyone here with a project blog?
@abstract violet what do you mean? just logging?
after feeding my CPX pet IR signals, would it be bad for it to randomly send IR it recieved when angry?
like if it asks to eat some IR signals, and you send it some via a remote, then later on you make it upset so it sends the signal to try and mess with you... IDK if that would potentially be bad
That's actually a hilarious idea. A device that continually gathered IR signals from a room and then at random intervals, sent random ones back out.
A much more frustrating TV-BE-GONE
Pineapple pizza, WHOO!
@viral spruce a blog. could be just logs or more detailed.. etc, just an electronics 'blog' in general..
I've accidentally made Discord in the browser fullscreen, and I can't get out. Which key gets me out of this?
F11?
Anyone want to test this and let me know if temp and stuff is okay? temp for me is around 80-85 fahrenheit
@runic elbow it is dangerous, as I understand it, to let your pineapple preferences in pizza be known in a public sphere.
@abstract violet Just been to Shenzhen. There is a booming business in iphone cases, judging from the number of stalls that are selling almost identical cases
The most interesting thing I saw was a watch that you could slot a sim card into and start making calls.
It had bluetooth, touchscreen, and speakers too
Cost about $20 ~
I have a cheap smart watch that's honestly kinda useless... I need to figure out if I can hack it or something
what smartwatch?
I'll have to look when I get home

@stuck moth think VR gloves what use CircuitPython

Downloading Destiny 2 Beta for PC. Anybody ever play this game?
I played the first one on PS4
I've never played. My son works for Bungi. He's a software Engineer and is having a fabulous time working for them. He gave me a code to get it for free so I figured it was time to see what Destiny is all about. I'm a Sins of the Solar System guy. Not really a FPS type but will try it out anyway.
At 16 GB this download is going to take some time.
Both my boys play it on PS4. But now that it runs on the PC, I can join them.
I'll have it on PC too. my new graphics card came with a code
Nice.
I didn't care for the first Destiny, went from lvl 1 - 30 and seen less then 10 other players out and about killing stuff... was not the MMO experience I was looking for. I guess the servers have far too many shards.
@idle iron it lost me when I needed a bunch more relic iron...
Im down to check out Destiny 2 beta though, I got a nice emblem from the last beta.
So, what's a 60 year old guy like me who's had 4 heart attacks, 2 L4 heria's, Cateract eyes, tinitus, rheumetoid arthritis, bacterial ulcers, and is standing on a rock cliff overlooking Lake Superior to do??? JUMP, that's what!!!😃

@idle iron Thanks for the link. I'll definitly check it out.

ooh, stephen wolfram is giving a talk at makerfaire nyc this year!
Does anyone have a subscription to make?

Actually never mind, I see the August /September edition came out in July
@indigo jetty I do. In case you need anything.
Thanks @gray pilot , I think im in the next episode but I wasnt sure if that was the one that was currently out, but I doubt it judging by when it came out
cool!
@gray pilot Well, your son should recognize my avitar 😉
is anyone else here a ham license holder? I've tuned my radio to 144.390 to try to hear APRS traffic and am not getting anything

how's the multiplayer aspect @idle iron ?
@viral spruce check this out https://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/Seth-Juarez/New-Command-Line-features-in-Windows-10-Fall-Creators-Update
@abstract violet pvp? okay. Other then that still horrible, no 60+ boss battles.
i guess Defiance spoiled me on what a MMORPG should be
@idle iron looks interesting

ahhh, streaming. okay, that makes more sense.
The steam tv is so cheap that I think it's probably has easy to get one of them
I've considered getting a steam link for the heck of it
Its nice, I use it for playing multiplayer games or when the media server acts up and need to mirror vlc instead :]
@spice moss yup, and got chicken dinner in game 5. haven't gotten it since then though I haven't had a ton of time to play.
@faint glacier hows your project going?
Been a while since I updated you guys, hasn't it?
Current version of the lighted mask.
For the next version, I am going to experiment with a combination of craft foam and fiberglass to see if I can make armor costuming that will actually stand up to the kind of abuse I put it through. Because personally, I hate gluing foam floor mats edge-to-edge using contact cement. I'd much rather be able to hot-glue more easily bendable pieces together using hot glue and then use fiberglass on the finished product to get the rigidity that I need.
is that running through an Rpi @faint glacier ?
No, that one is running through a Gemma.
@faint glacier you use CF100 foam?
No clue what that is. If it's the same stuff that foam puzzle mats are made of, then yes, that's what I used.
@faint glacier check https://www.poly-props.com/cf100foam

I got a track ball mouse! Unfortunately, one of the plastic things on one of the actual buttons broke.
The actual track ball part of it works, though. So that's good.
hack it with adafruit parts and it's like a new
I would, but I don't actually ave anything that would work.
Have*
Maybe if my school still has the 3D printr, maybe I could see if I could use it to print a new plasic block.
Plastic*
Also, Ishould probably get a physical keyboard for my tablet.
think having ball in center what glows
That woul actually be pretty neat.
Glowing track ball.
I don't have any Adafruit items to do this, but I might have something else.
The Steam Link that we were talking about yesterday is on sale at Amazon (US) for $15 today
I felt like I had to buy it, y'know?
Haha
steamlink to samsung QLED TVs
Samsung announced it in IFA andalso 32:9 gaming monitor
@spice moss That sounds pretty cool! I'll have to check it out.
32:9 would be really handy for people who need a lot of screen real estate.
I do! Yes!
think 3 monitor of those 32:9 monitors stacked
That would be pretty amazing. (I have multiple monitors at work and would love these.)
But ... According to ARSTechnica, the pixel density isn't really high enough. It might be better to wait for the new graphics cards to drive an actual UHD display in wide screen. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/crazy-ultrawide-329-and-241-displays-will-be-released-by-samsung-and-lg-this-year/
@polar wraith think reusable rockets with circuitpython
@spice moss The one I'm building is re-usable. It just doesn't have the pretty landings that SpaceX has. 😃
hmm, if you send a rocket with circuitpython that might force my hand of whether I want to use arduino or CP for my high altitude balloon...
I want to have the record for highest altitude that's run python 😄
@elfin wave I'll compete with you for that. Of course, the FAA waiver for our launch site only allows us to go to 14,000 AGL. I'll have to head out to the desert for bigger stuff. 😃
soon we have space race?
I hope so! 😃
Hello !
@gray pilot If you haven't seen it, Kerbal Space Program is a game that could satiate your rocket desires for a lot less money.
@elfin wave no the iss has a Pi that runs python
OK
