I'm guessing it's using GPT and they need to avoid spending too much on openAI API credits, so they have the wait in place to discourage would-be users?

late fulcrum
#

They already have the bot in place to discourage users from talking to actual people. I'd be happy to self service, but the site code isn't up to date and doesn't recognize the serial numbers of recent devices.

Modifying it like that seems kinda difficult. You may well be able to find another servo the same size and shape that can rotate more.

Is it? I thought it is used on VR now

but sometimes i just want to pick up a laptop and walk

#

in the past, i setup my laptop with fail-over based bridging

I think I accidentally did something like that a couple times

Presumably the WiFi was bridged to the wired network.

just set the mode to ad-hoc and set the ssid the same, and you have the equivelant of an ethernet cable

I certainly needed to run some demons on one of the machines to get ad-hoc to connect and work

ALL THE THINGS!!!!I (I have one like it from a "commercial" vendor)

raw jasper

Thanks for specifying that, because I'd definitely read that as the other kind of MCU that is mainly discussed here 😆

raw jasper

late fulcrum
#

There may be a way to do that by having the file system present an .INI file to autorun

raw jasper
#

^ I have no idea which message this is referring to

#

But I think autorun.ini has been dead since win8

tardy badger
#

ini files are still used in fpga 🙂

raw jasper
#

ini files are still used everywhere!

#

At least, before JSON ate their launch, for better or for worse

glacial wigeon
#

the rpi config.txt is also ini like, but with crazy conditional filtering stuff on top

tardy badger
#

I think ini files still have a strong use case for embedded

glacial wigeon
#

ive decompiled and read the rpi stage1 bootloader, and its ini parsing is very basic and easy to understand

#

when it encounters a [section] it will decide on if its enabled or not, so [pi4] is only enabled on the pi4

#

and then all further statements have no effect, until it finds another section

tardy badger
#

I also learned about ICF files when working with some NXP chips

raw jasper
#

late fulcrum
#

Heh, I learned on Motorola S-records, but those aren't used much any more.

raw jasper
tardy badger
#

Nope 🙂

#

They used to make so many of the semiconductors used in every day life

#

But they couldn’t keep up with intel and IBM at the time

raw jasper
#

I wonder if IBM are still making their own chips or if they've gone fabless

late fulcrum

raw jasper
#

late fulcrum
#

I remember the S/T/I Cell/BBE was made in IBM facilities, but that was a few years ago now.

olive dome
#

what does S/T/I Cell/BBE mean?

late fulcrum
#

S/T/I is Sony/Toshiba/IBM, the consortium that produced it. The Cell/BBE ("BroadBand engine") was a multi-core PowerPC chip that ran the PlayStation 3, among other things.

#

Heh, "2nm". Chip feature sizing has left reality entirely behind at this point.

olive dome
#

Ah I see, yeah it was quite a few years ago

#

IBM keeps doing R&D for advance chip manufacture an license the tech for GF and samsung

#

They sold their fab to GF I think

#

Also GF sued IBM recently, lol. Because GF is not going to do <10nm development and IBM is working with Japan for the 2nm stuff that may or may not have use the trade secrets from GF

Me testing my battery life for my esp-32

fossil dawn
#

You might be confused about the different ways to connect an SD-card with CircuitPython. So I made this handy guide:

late fulcrum
fierce prawn
#
  1. What can I do with a 3 hour runtime

  2. I calculated that time while sending http request and keeping the onboard led bright on for long time.
Would the battery life be even longer during normal use without polling a http endpoint every second

late fulcrum
#

Although I'm tempted to show a country 2-lane road, and a 4-lane road with a toll plaza

Still trying to figure out the significance of the yoyo (first I thought it was an arcade button, then I thought it was a spool of printer filament, which is also apparently in the gym pic: apparently I overanalyze everything and get off into the weeds, which can be a real hindrance in the kind of mindreading standardized tests popular in academia such as "grass is to diodes as concrete is to ?" or "what is the next number in this sequence?")

fossil dawn
#

well yes, it's a yoyo. I just thought of it when reading sdioio 😆

#

and sdcardio just the kinda garbage my brain comes up with

late fulcrum
#

I guess it could refer to the bidirectional bus (whereas SPI has a pair of unidirectional buses). But it's 4 lanes, so should be 4 yoyos? Oops, there I go again.

fierce prawn
#

So I just finished testing my battery
I have two questions

  1. What can I do with a 3 hour runtime

  2. I calculated that time while sending http request and keeping the onboard led bright on for long time.
Would the battery life be even longer during normal use without polling a http endpoint every second

late fulcrum
#

Oh wow déjà vu!

fierce prawn
#

Well a 3 hour runtime isn't bad right?

late fulcrum
#

I don't know enough about the problem to say. I would guess that polling less frequently would save battery life, but there are a lot of variables, so the best way to find out is probably to try it.

This is the first home assistant I am doing completely remotely (without the possibility of driving there in 15-30 minutes) and will be the closest to a complete smart house that I've done. door lock, 6 ring devices, garage door, lights/outlets, sensors, thermostats, water heater and some other stuff. If I can get the zwave lock to work then we will use zwave devices otherwise it will be ZigBee. Everything is available on Amazon so it will be a game time decision as to which way we go, I got my wish lists made up, I taught my dad how to home assistant so he will be good to work with remotely

#

i could run HA via Docker on the NAS, but even the Docker version is stupid old

tame coral
#

Why is this considered 90 degrees from the servo

patent hemlock
#

i would disconnect the servo and use one of the stupid little arms and start running some calibration code -- you need to adjust the pulse-width values. i would recommend using the default and see where the 0, 90, and 180 points are, then adjust the pulse-width to a wider range -- i can help out a bit more of you're using Python since i just went through this with some new servos of my own

late fulcrum
#

I would also try repositioning the servo horn on the servo. The servo output is a splined shaft, normally a plastic actuator (known as a "horn") is attached to it, and then whatever the servo is moving is attached to the horn. By unscrewing the horn, you can pull it off the splined shaft and replace it at a different angle. This is how you configure what the actual angle is then your servo is at 0°.

tame coral
#

i put the servo at absolute zero

#

couldnt move ANY more

#

but instead of 90 degrees it does like 25 more or less

patent hemlock
#

there are two settings you need to make on the Servo object when you create it:

create the server with a full range expected myservo = servo.Servo(pwm, actuation_range=180)

adjust the pulse-width to a wider range (do this carefully or you can over-drive the servo and get into possibly Bad Things) myservo.set_pulse_width_range(750,2250) -- this is the default and it's not even close to being correct for even an SG90

#

the other thing to look for when you're at 0 and 180 is if the motor is getting hot -- that's a definite sign you've gone a bit too far

tame coral
#

I am using the mg966r servos, you think its possible to use 750,2250 as pulse width range

patent hemlock
#

if you haven't changed it, that's what you're using -- it's probably chosen because it won't immediately tank a servo when it's used 😏

#

i have no idea what a good setting for the MG966r would be

late fulcrum
#

I wouldn't use that range to start with. The old standard was 1000µs to 2000µs. I wouldn't go under 1000 or over 2000 until I'd verified the servo was capable of it. I generally start with a smaller range than that to avoid damaging servos.

i think the traces in the chip also act sort of line capacitors
and changing a trace from low to high, requires (dis)charging that capacitor

and the current for doing that, will have waste heat, in both the traces and transistors

so clock lines, and logic switching on every clock edge, will be generating some waste heat on each clock

raw jasper

I still find it strange that nintendo does not allow you to install your cartridge onto your switch.... They could have some fancy DRM thing that only allowed installation on a single system at a time

#

("install" here meaning "copy the cartridge to internal flash")

olive dome
#

I'm guessing that is pushing the sell for digital version

tardy badger
#

Yeah

#

Eshop generates more revenue per game sale than cartridges

#

Or that’s what is said anyway

raw jasper

And if your switch dies after nintendo kills their auth servers, your games will be gone with it

you have better pricing control over the app store then physical copies

thats not damage, thats all new. the only damage was the roof asphalt being torn off then the wood under it rotting.

the door way i just changed to a normal door. it used to be a huge 4x8 foot door

this is what it should look like outside when i get the stucco/cedar on

A box

sick apex
#

if a screen was supposed to take 5v and i ran 3.3 through it would it be normal for it to flicker

#

cause its running at 5v without flickering

#

i didn't get a data sheet or a part number or anything with it

#

so i didn't wanna chance it

#

so i did 3.3 but its running perfectly at 5v

#

nice and bright

#

not getting hot

#

and i was wondering weather to add a trace for 5v or 3.3 on the pcb im getting printed

late fulcrum
#

What kind of screen? What kind of signal? Does it have a backlight? Is the backlight separately powered? Are the power supplies clean? What kind of flicker?

sick apex
#

all that

#

i peeled the screen off the board

#

and its specced for 5v

#

which was news to me

#

also if i send the file i have for my PCB could someone have a check over it to make sure its good and will actually most likely work

#

cause i dont wanna pay to print out dud boards

#

that wont work

#

lmao

the other one was pretty easy

except the parts including printing out 10 pcbs

is less than an actual flipper costs

i could build 10 for the price of one flipper zero

raw jasper
sick apex

but it does wifi and bluetooth

#

i have the parts to do RF

raw jasper

||that's where the cost will skyrocket||

Also, you need a cute mascot

sick apex

lmao yes

raw jasper

I think a big part of the appeal on the flipper is the design

sick apex

yeah also my device will support

full 16bit RGB

#

on the screen because thats what i programmed it with

#

so you'll be able to change your colour

#

anyways i gotta go take my motorcycle test

#

i'll be back, if someone wants to checkout the pcb design and let me know if it will actually work how it looks like it should work that would be great

hi, yesterday been working with Rasberry pico (circuitpython) dc motor and control with Relay module 2 channels H/L with optoisolation. After few tries everything worked fine. Then code stopped working. Tried to reset but it did not helped. Later noticed that MCU is connected as USB drive and not as CIRCUITPYTHON. Tried to install uf2 file again but after install it is still USB Drive

#

Thinking if MCU fried by spykes of DC motro

#

Or is there other issues why Circuitpython install is unsuccesfull
