Rabbit immune systems are basically genetic trash, and he died of an abscess from a nasal infection he already had when we found him (in a box, outside, in January, in 10℉ weather). He had a good couple of years, but they weren't enough.
We had tried treating it with nose drop antibiotics, but apparently it had gotten further back than that could reach, even though we caught it early.

The gray cat, (first photo, she is lying on her back on a couch), found us last year. We think someone dumped her. She is so sweet, she can't really meow and she likes to rub her paws on a window or door when she wants in the house. She likes to scratch stuff when she wants out. She likes to follow everyone around when we are outside.

@past sparrow Sure sheep have names! A long time ago I had friends who had a 40 acre farmlette. They had sheep. Their daughter, who was about 12, named all the lambs. Every year, they would take lambs to slaughter and they would put the lamb's name on the package. I was making lamb stew one evening and she brought me a package and said brightly, "we're eating popcorn tonight!"

Back in the Cambrian era, there were a lot more body plans in play, but a mass extinction wiped most of them out. Since then, we've only had a few lines going forward. For a very long time, most fishes were chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fishes), then later there were also osteichthyes (bony fishes). And the bony fishes were basically all ray-finned for a long time. Eventually a small line of "lobe-finned" fishes came along, which eventually also gave rise to amphibians. And from that splinter of a splinter, all the major branches of large animals (crocodiles, reptiles, turtles, dinosaurs/avians, and mammals) derived, inheriting all the vertebrate and chordate characteristics from the time before fish. The others are mostly arthropods.

The flying fox release videos are amazing to me.
Bats (generally) have a very large genera.
In Connecticut (New England, equidistant from New York City and Boston) we would throw small stones into the air at sunset, to watch the bats interact with the thrown stones (not 'at' them, just somewhere near their flight paths).

So in that view, bats ain't far from primates.
