hi all!
hi
here are the flash chips we have defined for circuitpython: https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/blob/main/supervisor/shared/external_flash/devices.h
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/adesto-technologies/AT25DF081A-SSH-T/1265-1166-1-ND/5168672 <-- this is what i ordered π
Thanks again π
@rapid hornet btw, my AX2 (XO2) fpga is on it's way. I hopefully can have it for Friday's stream.
Any "homework" for it?
(even if CR is really small, same day delivery is not something providers do here...)
hopefully so @gusty wedge
@gusty wedge nice! I haven't done much on the software side
this is the library I started for controlling it from circuitpython: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_MachXO
Nice.
that's kind of as far as I've gotten testing-wise
I really need to get my feet wet with translating some of the C libraries for programming FPGA over SPI/i2c into CircuitPython
You don't really need to translate them as much as put a wrapper around them to make them callable from Python
well, that's sort of what I was shooting for lol. Though a true translation would be interesting.
maybe slower than a python wrapper though
True, a pure Python implementation would be cool (and portable)
JP's image for the product pick of the week is....disturbing.
And we're live on Twitch
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
Still waiting for YT to wake up...
YT is a go
Hi all.
Yup, YT is now bleeping and blooping to the 80s.
@haughty quiver Muted.
I can't hear you.
We can hear you now! @haughty quiver
good now!
I have one of those boards I just bought a few weeks ago, that I still have to get out of its package
Did the Twitch stream cut out?
When I wrote an algorithm to do it in python it literally took almost all the power in an M4 and to still be somewhat accurate. Offloading it would be great
What is the accuracy?
That's crazy steady
the audio is really out of sync on youtube
good show
right on, so sorry for the tech hiccups!
Live gremlins π
It is a seriously awesome board compared to other attempts I've made as using IMU data for this sort of thing!
do you know offhand if it can tell you actual heading (like degrees?) I think that is caculatable from the magnometer anyways
Great show! Quick and just thorough enough to understand the board and benefits.
Thanks @haughty quiver
@nova totem that's a good question, I'll check if it can output heading like that.
@nova totem the orientation.x value from the bno.getEvent() call seems to be reporting the compass heading in degrees that agree with my iPhone compass.
@haughty quiver what is the accuracy of the BNO055 when using the Quatenrion or Euler functions?
@viral sail According to the Bosch data sheet: "high" :)
I'm trying to find a better answer than that.
Thanks @haughty quiver . Thinking if it's within 1/4Β° it will be good enough to point a telescope.
In pure Magnetometer mode they only claim +-2.5ΒΊ accuracy for it @viral sail so I don't know if in fusion mode they could get it any more accurate than that.
BTW, this is a pretty good Q&A page on the sensor https://community.bosch-sensortec.com/t5/tag/BNO055/tg-p/board-id/bst_community-mems-qanda
@haughty quiver thanks, nice to know. Have to get mine out and see how much it reacts to interference next
Probably not in azimuth, but elevation would likely be different, since it's the gravity vector. The 3rd axis would be redundant. Thanks for checking @haughty quiver .
hi! I just got a QT-Py. put CP 60 beta0 on it... I'm trying to control the neopixel, but so far I've seen no colors. is this just not working yet? or is there a trick to it?
... oops, meant to ask that in help-with-cp ... I'll ask it over there.

Zack, I'm making a guitar pedal that is controlled by a clue.
@gusty wedge have you heard of electrosmash?
they make open source pedals, mainly arduino based but one is based on a raspberry pi
And I'm adding several tone control circuits, so you can mix or choose, so the pedal "behaves" quite different.
That reminds me, I need to make a Zoom/Discord PTT button that's a footswitch.

@gusty wedge oh wow
Adafruit is the way :ΓΎ
I suspect there is an screen Stemma at the end of the video.
that's cool, our stuff is used all the time, we sometimes do not hear about it directly tho
It's a bit pessimistic, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten very wary of things lasting -- unless I can hack it, tear it open, repair it, extend it past the end of its "designated lifespan", etc. If not, then I tend to not bother adopting it any more than I absolutely have to. Only will get my heart broken as the service/product sunsets.
@waxen thistle Yep.
I hadn't seen that @gusty wedge , thanks!
I know my variax bass will die one of these days, and there is no way to repair it unless I buy another one and gut it. π¦
It has piezo pickups and a huge pcb to change the sound of the instrument to make it sound like "famous" basses, and even synths and a double bass.
That is just black magic to me.
@gusty wedge pcbs can be reverse engineered, as can pickups π
@wanton dome yeah, but is not as easy the firmware that does the modeling. For this you actually need to record the instruments and get parameters from the to control your chips.
If you're talking about fixing, you could probably swap out the chips
but yes, DSP is a thing and that thing is hard
The pickups are stock-ish. And I have made a couple of custom piezo pickups for the neck of the bass for a friend.
Order today, ships today. SGP40-D-R4 β Air Quality Sensor IΒ²C from Sensirion AG. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
And the thing is that I don't have the jaco pastorius bass to model the sound. And it's really precise. I can hear the roundwound strings and all.
tbh you'd want a second one if you were going to reverse it for reference/parts which just gets back to your original point
And line6 didn't sell any more basses after the first run. The still sell variax guitars.
Choosing a good gas sensor isn't something you should leave up in the air.
If your gas sensor doesn't do its job properly, it stinks.
Where did you get that 3-way cable?
Don't let this gas sensor float away.
Very cool npi as usual.
Thanks, was curious.
I showed the cool GPS from a while ago to some archaeologists in peru and now they are using them to train students in the field.

Wait, Scott, go back to that tab that had all your bank info...
She's amazing. I generally want to give my money to Adafruit, because they'll do better things with it than I will.
Github sponsorhips are great
They give you money to talk to yourself in front of a computer....nice
...and give you money to stream cats....hint...switch to cat-cam π
Network and mindshare effects are really important.
The reason that Linux is a thing at all is because of Free Software.
The GNU tools were available, Linus asked for help on a kernel, and AT&T sued BSD, which scared people off working on BSD.
100 degrees c....that's boiling point...that's crazy...
network-enabled kettle.
Well...if it's going to be 100c...it's probably in...so it's a network enabled tea-bag
Maybe sat stuff, in which case they probably also need a hardened cpu. (hardened fpgas are actually payable)
π‘
oops not utf-8 compliant
Text...it's so easy....yeah...right...
@drifting arch As long as you aren't ASCII'ing too much of it.
Finally...they fixed the text encoding issue in the terminal in Mu Editor....by taking my commit and changing it with their code...hmm...not so friendly π
@wild urchin That was too funny
You could have copy and paste the message and create the issue yourself...
@wind spoke teach the bug reporter how to file a ticket ...
And they won't be able to follow the fix...
... and there will be one more voice howling for fixes!
@rapid hornet hello to the person outside... π
@rapid hornet We have faith in your ability to do everything. There's just not enough time.
@rapid hornet Limor did the oled with a qtpy on ask an engineer...so it should work?
I guess she had the flash
Please tell me somebody did an armored teddybear with a Trinket in it.
So there are two QT Py image. One with SPI and one without. I just ordered two QT Py and one SPI...
doesn't the adafruit_ssd1306 and similar libraries not need displayio?
Did someone mention STM π
Trinket M4?
This weekend I'll do a port of Pixhawk4 boards. It seems the chip should support circuitpython and because of low cost/size it doesn't look like it has a programmer chip in between the usb.
Very exciting STM32G4 next generation gizmos
i guess she does merges from 3Am to 4am
i was soldering some jtag breakouts
i was just looking at some of the g4 line.
Install and import it, that's the best way to figure out if it's current.
G431 is a nice chip
now i'm looking for a board definition i did. tuns out its on a branch. i guess i should merge that with my main. its kind of annoying that all the various esp32s2 board defs need to be very specific as to flash and psram size. i thought those could be auto
Hello all π catching up on the stream
hey, its an 'how to email' today.
@rapid hornet STM32L431KC and STM32L432KC are available and can run CPY probably...and they're low-power also!
does low power matter to most cpy users? curious
NUCLEO-L432KC dev-board is available also
maybe battery would be nice
1.21 microwatts!
yes, yes, yes π
lets segue
Segway?
432 sorry
Would something like usbip could be use to emulate the missing usb port over wifi?
I thought there was only one MCU, and it was owned by Disney now....
sigh...
so now i''m updating TheCubeMX
i fnd its a never ending cycle. every program needs an update
Has the SH1107 branch been merged?
I havew used the l433 a lot
amaaaaaaazing ... off to download it then lol
@tropic inlet I have used them also
however most of mine used the 128K Flash versions
I'm new to the adafruit ecosystem but I want to promote y'all. I'm looking at Titano as a good base-camp dev platform that starts with gentle CP. Do you seeTitano as a product with "legs" (i.e., a strong future?) Or should I wait for the Metros you mentioned (which I can't find on the shop pages.).
That reminds me...I have basic CPY working on L433...
nice
@drifting arch is that just the 256K version?
Probably...I use the L433CC specifically so that CPY can run on it.
If anyone saw me on Show and Tell...and saw the ruler...that's got the l433 on...
Nice
Maybe jepler will watch this stream... and see your side of the treatment.
I don't suppose it's possible to use an L433 with 128K and add a QSPI flash to enable CPY?
@drifting arch I lost the ruler. π¦
Yeah, I tested gamepad and saw the problem and it was discussed on discord.
@tropic inlet I don't know how to split CPY onto spi flash...but I'm certain it has QSPI on, so should be good...
It also allows memory mapping etc..
@rapid hornet That's about when I picked up Python. 2001-2002.
aside: Is #circuitpython-dev discord for non-adafruit humans to discuss or just git msgs & adafruit peeps?
burtyb17/09/2020
@David.G for me going through the downloads for the Feather M0 Express GamePad was OK (as in I get >=8 out of ten presses registered) in 10c5bf6 but broke (lucky to get 2/10) in b3b6a64 - looks like quite a few changes between those two though π¦
Does your OSHPark boards have the new debug-edge?
How did you survive PHP?
PLEASE show them....I want to know how the MCU and Spidey icons look like...
Not now...can be later...
I misheard you then π
My boards should be here by next week...maybe π
Depending on the chinese holiday.
The STM32L432 has CAN support π
π¦ but it's on the same pins as USB...that sucks.
Still don't understand how tinyusb got into my PR/Branch at all... maybe we are inheriting some polluted version?
And don't use 2FA based on SMS.
Very easy to catch over ss7, and there are lots or entry points to "play" on that network.
Authy is a nice alternative to Google Authenticator
1Password does 2Fa as well as passwords
its not as nice as authy but it will fill in the 2fa code
I actually use the Pyportal code from Lady ada
I like using Yubikey for U2F....another great Swedish invention π
mode sms hacks are not technical, they are social engineering. someone calls the provider and gets control of your number
lol, i have yubikey, somewhere. on my keychain. i found it in pieces in my pocket
No, via SS7 so can basically "sniff" the incomming messages to a cell phone, and you only need to know the #
Nice buggy protocol from the 70's is controlling the base of auth for lots of sites and apps.
true but most hackers are not hacking ss7 , its most probably sim swapping
SIM swapping sees an adversary calling your wireless carrier and requesting that your cellphone number is attached to their SIM card. The hacker can then take control of your phone by resetting all your passwords via SMS.
ss7, cell phones, i guess its left hackable so that someone can listen in π
perks up at 'esp-idf'
perks down at 'esp-idf' :D
I don't mind ESP...I love what they created, cheap as chips (literally) wifi....but I just like my STM32
semi manufacturers
stm32 nice actually.
i wonder if NVidia will manage to alienate arm licensees. if they buy ARM that it
So what are you going to do AFTER. Like after doing the email and the TAB?
Oh....time for lunch again?
Hardware Abstraction Language?
afk, cool show.
HAL9000 HAL (Heuristically Programmed ALgorithmic Computer)
HAL - Hungry as A Lion......that's me right now..
i'm waiting for dinner. i wonder who will make it. me i guess
I think I have to quit the stream and go eat something. 01:24 here...what meal time is this?
3rd dinner?
@simple fractal I'm sorry, Bruce, I can't do that.
my eyes are gone, focussing on the laptop and tv
01:24 would be UTC+2? So Israel?
Or scandinavia, I guess.
lol
7:30am here, so breakfast and loooooots of coffee
@wispy linden You're in Saturday already, aren't you.
What is the problem he's trying to solve?
Saturday is looking good so far...come join us.
is that china?
@drifting arch I'm getting there as fast as I can. π
Singapore π
i was actually thinking that. but guessed wrong.
If this is Python2/Python3 fight again....
Yay...I make it to the end of another stream...
3:07:54 looks like the longest deep dive
Looking forward to seeing your OSHpark boards next week?
Thanks for the stream @rapid hornet have a great weekend
nice thanks for the stream @rapid hornet
Byeeee Spook π
π±
I don't get paid to hype Adafruit, I do it entirely out of True Believer status.
Btw if you add the timestamps to the video description, YouTube auto-segments the video (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9884579?hl=en)
@wintry flare nice! is last week's segmented? I did timestamps there
I should start USING some of those parts that I've bought though π
@rapid hornet last week's is not segmented, I suspect it's because, citing the help page, "make sure that the first timestamp you list starts with 00:00"
π
..... oooh, MIDI Hallowing, maybe with a STEMMA rangefinder, have it trigger sequences when someone gets too close to it.
It's an M4, it should be beefy enough, right?
You're describing an automated spook device
@wild urchin should be
I suspect a PIR sensor with a air horn connected trough a relay would be beefy enough.
@wintry flare It's true, and they are available for much less.
@wintry flare I want it to play music, not blast noise.
Well, not blow out people's eardrums.
And I want the eye to be reactive, but that would be much trickier.
Eye-tracking would be fun
@wintry flare If you had a pan-tilt unit with a little camera on top that did face tracking, you could set the eye graphic looking forward, and mount the Hallowing to the pan-tilt unit.
Track with the entire mount.
@wintry flare Someone built it out already, from the VisionQuest hackerbox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39hYwOsFQR0
New code is up on github
https://github.com/grtyvr/HB0024_VisionQuest
This is a VERY ROUGH SKETCH. It does not work reliably. There are lots of timing issues. The minim library is barely working for me on Ubuntu16.04.

PyAda is close enough to paella.
you're making me hungry!
Hi all!
....is it bad of me that I have literally no idea what's being talked about? Did I just hear "skateboard while drinking cranberry juice"?
i have no idea ether so your not alone
hi all!
We need a link to the skateboarding video
=^-^=/
I mean, my attention is semi-split....but that made me stop and go with the Tim Allen "arrough?"
"no shower tomorrow" :ΓΎ
I've been drinking Ocean Spray out of the bottle since before it was cool. I won't go near a skate board though.
Not that expensive for, let's say a luthier. With a couple of arched top guitars you can pay the x-carve-pro.
This is going to be great for amateur telescope makers.
i β€οΈ my inventables Carvey π too bad it's discontinued now. great machine though.
their support is π π in my experience
@viral sail Wait... you can carve glass with it?
(I'm still sad that there's no place that I know of, to aluminize a mirror in all of Central america)
@gusty wedge no, but the support structures for the optics.
JEP --- if that's for Jeff E., you need to up your game! You're behind by 6 points! π
I hear John's middle name is Edgar, but thanks for thinking of me π
i was thinking the same thing at first but then remembered john's middle name haha
I could so use one of these for a beside field score keeping for Ultimate frisbee
Good Idea: Using an X-Carve Pro to carve a Thanksgiving decoration.
Bad Idea: Using an X-Carve Pro to carve a Thanksgiving turkey.
The end.
I can see my house on that map.

I really love that art style you went with, @split gazelle
Great work everyone. Thanks for sharing.
thank you! i'm definitely not an advanced modeler so it's very basic sketches in fusion
@split gazelle I love printing things small scale just to see, great to learn and usually looks neat in its own way
nice job @hasty chasm

thank you @haughty quiver !
It helps that it's so accessible....back in the day, it required a soldering iron or breadboard and a small radioshack of components. Now, all you need is a USB cable and a ~$25 board filled with super useful I/O and sensors.
today's tune, me likey

Ok noted
It's good that there's a CAN-do attitude
oh that old CANnard
Let's reCANt these puns.
Yes we CAN!
when they sing about me, it'll be a CANticle for jepler
would dual CAN be a CANCAN?
I need to print up some of those mounting blocks.
This is a bucCANeering adventure into the world of can bus.
fake news .. did you see how the video was cut and spliced? WHAT IS HE HIDING
"CAN" is quite overloaded in Singlish
He's hiding Lars and Lars' evil plans

that must be true since I didn't even see lars

maybe lars can make the makecode minute come in at 0:59
"i think freakin out is what I was doin" -- me always these daysπ
when the floating hospital went by our window, that was not-great
however, we're ready and prepared for whatever comes next
made it this far, keep going
We don't have any other choice. One day at a time.
i think i crashed 6 already ><;
hopefully near the 6.x release candidates
I crash 6 all day, it's my job π
so if you can tell me how to crash it that makes my job easier
that... I havent figured out yet.
I actually had my bluefruit crashing to a hard fault copying files to it. Didn't have time ot poke at it (or reboot cause maybe it was my computer) but i'll try to poke it tomorrow to see if I can reproduce that
π
The joys of a software tester. Your job is to utterly break everyone's hard work. π
Congrats @ornate coyote !!
I think I have 12 of the ESP32 dev boards from a couple of months ago when I told @rapid hornet I wanted to hack on them.

Or the head of littlebits...
I mean, if you're looking for women in STEM fields or Open Source.
"It's great exposure!" π
so anyway, every large company has asked limor to speak for free at their "open" event, we do not want to get paid, but we want them to pay the other speakers
Party Parrot never gets old.
Photographers get that so often too, its crazy
@nova totem yep
As a photographer myself, I can't tell you how much I've been asked to do someone's birthday/party/event....but "we don't have a budget to pay you, but help yourself to the snacks!" Gee. Thanks.
I got an Arduino mega 2560 starter kit for Christmas, but I was in the middle of a big project at work and then the pandemic hit and I forgot all about it. A week and a half ago I pulled the kit out and have loved playing with it. Iβm a full stack developer working in more of a data engineering type role writing functional and object oriented code in mostly Python. I have basically no hardware knowledge but get bored when things are too easy. Where would you recommend I start with my learning?
... musicians, artists, too. Almost anyone with a passion.
@waxen thistle Been there too, and then my friends who ask me to will at least offer me something
Depending on the friend and the situation, I adjust accordingly. But when it's for someone's aunt's nephew's birthday.....
@forest flicker RGB LEDS! (okay personal favorite), but really, get some devices that talk over i2c/spi or the sort and start talking to them. Write you own drivers for em!
Exactly for a close friend/family I'm not going to. But it's those second cousin's ex's, former roommate...
@forest flicker Circuit Playground with Circuit Python on it.
I hope ARM doesn't change too much under the new owners ><;
25
But, I'm not a good person to ask, because I've been acquiring gear and not using it for a long time.
@forest flicker That said, the Circuit Python community has been pretty great, you can use Python 3.4 syntax to play with the board in an interpreter running on the board.
I hadnβt heard of circuit python until finding this company, I love i can write python to build cool things. Does circuit python only work on the circuit playground?
yay @hard hollow && @rocky reef !!
@forest flicker https://learn.adafruit.com is a really good place to browse projects
https://circuitpython.org/downloads @forest flicker 159 boards at the moment π
@forest flicker It works on a lot of boards. The #help-with-circuitpython channel here is a good place to talk to people.
3d hangouts literally taught me 99% of what I know for 3d printing. Congrats on 300 @hard hollow and @rocky reef !
Congrats @hard hollow & @rocky reef - amazing work that keeps on going π
However, CircuitPython won't work on the Mega 2560.
@forest flicker And @rapid hornet is lead developer on Circuit Python.
word press is very hackable.... in good and bad ways lol.
@forest flicker https://circuitpython.org/ for the boards it will work on.
Awesome, thanks guys!
Congrats @hard hollow and @rocky reef, you deserve all the success you've received from your hard work, talent, and vision.

QUESTION: Is Adafruit planning on making something like the LiIon/LiPoly Backpack Add-On for Pro Trinket/ItsyBitsy (PRODUCT ID: 2124) for the QT Py?
I don't work for Adafruit, I just think they should get all my money, because otherwise I'll just spend it on less worthwhile things.
Congrats on 300 @rocky reef & @hard hollow !
Order today, ships today. WS3620.ITU β Tool Single Level Stripper, Adjustable For 0.12mm ~ .8mm Cable Diameter from Ideal-tek S.A.. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
"copper only"? why "copper only"? [the marking on one of the wire strippers]
@wild urchin I agree.... i made the mistake of looking at how much i have spent with Adafruit. I am pretty my collection could be used as warehouse overflow.
You got a shoutout on the live broadcast for the FeatherS2 launch
https://timeguy.com/cradek/01594932723 my friend works with much finer wire, I think it's somewhere in the 50s of the US wire gauge system, .012 mm diameter or something
I always try burning that 36ga. never any luck
Ya - instinctually want to treat it like magnet wire
Has anybody tried to solder the SOIC-8 socket to the back of a QTPy?
Because I sort of want to add the flash, but I presume I'll let the magic smoke out.
So having a way to replace the flash as needed seems like a good idea.

If you only have so many Adaboxes you're going to make, should some of us drop subscriptions? Are there people who want subscriptions who haven't been able to get them?
I think I've gotten every box since 004, and I've used some more than others. Totally made an M0 Hallowing 3d printed case and hung it as a lanyard...
DYNAMIXEL Motor - AX-12A https://www.adafruit.com/product/4768
Dynamixels! Cool
@wild urchin we have enough slots for the folks that will want them, all good
so far the churn has been = to the new folks that want them
with some room too, so far good
I thought I had cancelled my subscription due to unemployment, rushed to add it back today.
Then discovered that I hadn't cancelled.
So, didn't add the new subscription.
The Clue from the last Adabox inspired me for the project I showed today
mount it to a wall
They are super useful for that.

Spade Quick Connector Kit - 6.3mm / 4.8mm / 2.8mm https://www.adafruit.com/product/4748
i was having such a hard time finding some 2.8mm spade connectors the other day to setup a E-Stop switch the other day. ended up with gold plated "Audio Grade" ones from the auto store....
Buy two kits, never run out until you lose both of them.
Adafruit 9-DOF Orientation IMU Fusion Breakout - BNO085 (BNO080) - STEMMA QT / Qwiic https://www.adafruit.com/product/4754
Ugh, I need an adabox
@wild urchin that or it is at work and you are at home, and then you get one for home and then you are at a friends house and you dont bring it with you lol.
Alas I have to save for a cross country move in December
@lilac tusk They are always a good idea.
And making new products for my new business
Working on a few cool Stemma QT boards
7 key capacitive touch board and a temp & humidity sensor. Yay π
Also going to make a 1515 neopixel matrix
Q: @open girder is there a chance that you can back power the 3V pin on a feather wing that uses the STEMMA standard to a feather main board sitting above it? The STEMMA bus has a VCC that could source power from another device, so is a schottky needed on the STEMMA feather wing 3V pin for protection?
8x16 super tiny
q: could you use the lipo backpack with the qt py or would that be a bad idea?
@wild urchin our own Kattni did, having never tried soldering a chip before. Result: success! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/327298996332658690/763142038396862484/QT_Py_Haxpress.jpg
Q: the TMP007 contact-less infrared sensor has been discontinued. Are there plans to replace the product with something similar?
(I think that's amazing for a first time)
Questionβ- Adafruit products are being sold in places like Microcenter... do you have any say in the SKUs.. and do you see about the same buying trends
@fair fulcrum Gotta get 4 then
Question : can I run the metro m4 on 12 volts thru the barrrel connector Ie a car battery or a golfcart?
12V? YIKES!
Power the METRO M4 with 7-9V polarity protected DC or the micro USB connector to any 5V USB source. The 2.1mm DC jack has an on/off switch next to it so you can turn off your setup easily. The METRO will automagically switch between USB and DC.
^^ what the guide actually says
Do you see traditional electronics "Kits" going away? (such as the nixie tube clock) Being replaced with break-out boards?
The usb to barrel on the adashop shop
Any plans for a Renesas' OB1203 sensor breakout?
Plug and play and stemma is the obvious follow-on to littlebits.
I thought I'd paid shipping last time to Canada (which was fine I expected to) I'll have to check this next time. Or maybe just import duties. Still worth it
the regulator itself says it is rated to 20V https://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/NCP1117-D.PDF but you'd also need to look at the power dissipation rating and the voltage rating of the input side capacitors
II guess that I can use a buck converter to reduce the car battery down to to 9v and then feed it thru the barrel connector.
Funny story.
