They can drink more than me.
@simple fractal In that case you should not drink with finnish people. 🙂
quite true. but i am an atypical canadian. most can drink me under the table
0x6a!
@rapid hornet change the 'hotkeys' for KiCAD
i used it on windows last year sometime
jlink that is
yes, esp32, using an espressif board
i more of less followed the espressif docs
@rapid hornet Do you happen to have a digikey PN for the jtag connect you have on you adapter?
Thank you.
I love that you can search for the adafruit SKU (4 digit) on digikey and it 99% of the time shows it for the first result.
and on mouser...just add 485- (485-4048 for example)
I know that pain of having your driveway dug up. Went on for 6 weeks 😦
It was sewer work and I just happened to be the lucky spot where they had to dig, I actually took a time lapse of it
@rapid hornet -c "adapter_khz 20000"
For fun I set up my camera once the city started sewer renewal on my street.
awesome
it's cool that the shovel slowly drops when it's not working
Maybe for later. " System Settings -> Desktop -> Screen Edges -> Maximize windows by dragging them to the top of the screen. "
@rapid hornet temp hardware breakpoint
yes, lol
so it's a 1-time breakpoint ?
Chat latency sucks for met tonight 😦
yeah, think we're 30 seconds off, or more .. it takes ages to show up on youtube
i threads
set remote hardware-watchpoint-limit 2
@rapid hornet mon reset halt THEN
flushregs
I was shouting at you (silently) to not close the window....but it was slooooow
Wohoo!
breadboards that
Yeah silk screen looks are more important than functionality!
@rapid hornet change it to purple 😉
OSHPark ftw
@rapid hornet and add raytracing 😉
I'd like to see how quick it renders with a real GPU (not Mac 😉 )
Not so close to me. >2 weeks in the mail.
What would happen on a feather, to the pins that now go to the serial programmer?
@rapid hornet please please please test Raytracing 😉
The red led next to the usb port, I'm missing it... but is not needed.
And yeah, everybody wants castellated, but not neccesary here.
HOPI and HIPO is soooo nicer 😉
i was just getting used to COPI and CIPO and now back again
4
I might add some of these to my PCB order with JLC...in case someone from Europe wants some...
Does anyone know if IO26 works as a digital output? it's a wpu, but I can't drive it low with the same set up as the other pins.
...so maybe use something else for D10?
or maybe I read that wrong
V3.1 🙂
@rapid hornet I had it uploaded to JLC...was ready to press 'buy' as soon as you had done it...
no, just playing with Saola
lol
while we're at it, can I get you to reconsider IO11 as A2? it's ADC2 so can't be used as analog when wi-fi is on
IO6 and IO7 are ADC1 and otherwise unused I think
@ornate coyote Espressif should update their docs <https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/latest/esp32s2/api-reference/peripherals/adc.html > (see blue note) I remember hearing it was their intention to allow ADC2, but safer to use ADC1?
@strong acorn well, we all know that sometimes Espressif don't deliver what they promise!
🙂
But the promise is that there will be a "facilitator" that will allow for ADC2 + Radio, with radio taking higher priority
They also promised to fix this on the ESP32 - 2 years ago 😉
I'd like to hope they won't make this mistake again...
@strong acorn I'll ping some peeps and find out the "plans"...
Mistakes? You only ever find them the day AFTER you ordered the PCB's.
ok, i ordered one 🙂
if it doesnt work i want my time back 🙂
i think it takes close to a month to get it here in canada
Support your local Maker.
$3.10? What's the extra $.10?
$2.00 for PCB, $1.10 for HASL lead-free
about 23 days was the last shipping time. plus mfgr time
Oh. Ah. HASL lead free. The thing I always forget to click.
@rapid hornet I had to pay $0.29 for shipping...already have an order in process...it should be here in under a week.
i like my lead
Thanks! Cool stream!
I don't have micro-b connectors though....
Cool stream, thanks a lot.
Might change it to USB-C...and order those also
I have diodes coming monday the same footprint you used 🙂
thanks all
thanks everyone!
@rapid hornet I made a USB-C version...but I don't have the adafruit.lib file so it totally screwed up all the GPIOs....I give up 😄
lol
ya, I do have the usb-c 2.0 version but haven't used it yet
I've switched to EVERYTHING with USB-Seon @ornate coyote
hahahaha

The "DESK OF LADYADA - Finding a matching connector...." is cool. If you are considering other connector types, I'd be pleased to hear your ideas on small RF connectors, specifically connectors to attach antenna leads to PCB-mounted connectors. Thanks for considering this, and for all the cool work you do.

mad props to @hard hollow and @rocky reef for their crafting /design skillz
Adafruit Drum Corp
Wanted to say thanks for all your videos. Last week made a snap fit enclosure for a project I was working on and went so smoothly (mostly) after learning from the videos
not a stalker.. but I would love to live next to @hard hollow and @rocky reef 🙂
no maker spaces near me.. maybe need to start one.
they would work great for an led stickman
I've been doing some research into these LED "neon" lights. Been looking at some commercial installations, etc
They're also used in retail-sold desk lights, like stars, pineapples, flamingos, etc -- available places like Walmart, Michaels, etc.
"anything can be made better with some leds" -- devoh 2020 🙂
Seriously -- I've been replacing all my compact fluorescents with LED bulbs since LEDs are really better 🙂
Same here @waxen thistle an electrician friend was sayingjust how fast the cost savings adds up
I really want to do a led stickman Halloween costume.. need to get my black coveralls and get cracking on it.
4x 100watt equivalent LED bulbs are 13w each (52w total). Less than one 60w incandescent.
crazy the energy savings @waxen thistle you can get
More than 6x the brightness -- instant-on too (no warmup time needed). and less waste heat (you can put your hand on the bulb while running -- don't ever do that with an incandescent).
I have replaced my florescence tube lights with led tubes.. much nicer
and no issues with cold winters..
Indeed!
stares at the light on a cold winter day You know, you can turn on....anytime you want....
hi
nice @rocky reef

hi
@rapid hornet - the other day when you unboxed the Wio Terminal - we were unsure about the date order on the label
I see in https://lbry.tv/@BnBe:4/is-the-wio-terminal-any-good-getting:8 that there is a date code of "04/15/20" - so it seems like it really is mm/dd/yy - like you were guessing.
PS. my date code is 06/04/20 🙂

Hi everyone!
La Rs
Hello
Lars better be making this unboxing 😉
hi all!
Adafruit isn't throwing away their shot. And adabox? You'll be back.
i did save my adabox opening for the official unboxing this evening
I admire the restraint. I opened my adabox in about 10 seconds after it arrived
❤️
❤️
I peeked at Adabox#015
Very impressive with shipped "demo". Well beyond basic bootloader or "blink" sketch
Random thought from someone with a green thumb -- if you want to own a plant that's super hardy, can be neglected, and is on NASA's top 10 list of plants on the trip to Mars for air purification properties, check out "Dracaena trifasciata" -- aka Snake Plant
real neat, i have plant obsessed friends who would like that

mask smells like oil wanted to see if it is supposed to, if it's ok to use or not
@slate valley the mask comes in plastic, feel free to let it sit out, there could be a plastic smell since it's sealed. or when in doubt, do not use it.
snap fits for the win!
@nova totem That's very cool! Or hot, depending on the ambient temp 🌞 🏂

New tutoria...
And it comes with a kitchen sink! [so many sensors!]
I got my Adabox yesterday.
I'm really digging JP's name placard behind him -- very googie-esque design. 🙂
i wasn't aware of the film adventures of buckaroo banzai until recently and now i get the jokes with bonzai buckaroo's silkscreen
🙂
was just thinking a small watermelon plushie would've been nice
lol
Got my box yesterday, had no idea how small the clue was. Looking forward to trying out all the sensors
the subtitles on the youtube feed are really good. Are they pre-subtitled in the prerecorded parts?
ladyada, what is your go-to oscilloscope - make/model?
My box is still sitting in garage quarantine, but this should be pretty neat! I can see how the plant stuff would have been even more timely back in March (it's been a few years since then, right?)
🙂 it was intended to be the 'spring box' but hey now folks have more houseplants 😄
thanks ladyada - I may pick up a scope soon
Man, real-time graph outputs are so cool.
the bubble level is wild, it looks like it really is embedded down inside the screen
😄
What is the watermelon for?
I’ll tell you later.
I bought 3 orchids this quarantine.
I got impatient. Wow that board is super tiny!
while our cats were still with us, I always imagined making a motion or computer-vision activated cat watering station. seems like maybe you could make one with this.
yeah my cats like to scoop their water (and food) onto the floor..
Maybe you have known some cats that were jerks, but mine were angels. More or less.
Good idea: Using the Adafruit Clue and Bonzai Buckaroo to water seeds you buy from the store! 🏪
Bad idea: Using the Adafruit Clue and Bonzai Buckaroo to water seeds you get mysteriously in the mail. ❓
The End. 🔍
You beat me to it 😜
oh are the seeds an ARG related to adabox? 🤯
adabox shipped late this box because we needed to ship seeds to all 50 states, thanks for the patience folks
Haha!
so the adabox is a clue for those mysterious seeds

Wait, what did I see in the fine print....: "Adafruit is not responsible if the seeds you plant grow into a sentient monster which attempts to take over the world."
we partnered with seeed studios in shenzen
This is really nice preloaded firmware with the graphing. And I thought that seeing sensors every 30 sec via grafana was cool...
please plant the seeds and wait
JP, the last pitchbender 🎵
the whole box is excellent but i really appreciate the bonus mask, thank you!
Lars!
Nobody does unboxing like JP. Excellent!
Live graphing the mag sensor data is fascinating
thanks jp that was awesome
thanks everyone, this was (and is) a challenging time, getting ADABOX out after the pause was rough, but we did it, and we did it togehter
june 26th-ish we could mostly all be back on site and work with all our teams
so then we restarted ADABOX and within 30 days got thousands out
woooo
@open girder Amazing team you have there.
haahah
NYC was hit first and the worst, it was and is terrible, however, this is a small example of hope and recovery, we can all move towards that.
Thank you all so much for hanging in there and staying safe. Glad to have this here now, seems like a lot of fun
Excellent job to everyone at Adafruit for doing essential pandemic order, emergency PPE shipping, and being able to ship out an adabox
everyone on the adafruit appreciates all of ya'll so much, thanks for helping us stay afloat and keeping our spirits up all these months
Now I just have to wait for a few things to be in stock at the same time and I'll place my next order for miscellaneous good stuff.
Noe and Pedro should make a case for this that hangs from a pot
Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits : - Tools Gift Certificates Arduino Cables Sensors LEDs Books Breakout Boards Power EL Wire/Tape/Panel Components & Parts LCDs & Displays Wearables Prototyping Raspberry Pi Wireless Young Engineers 3D printing NeoPixe...
more stuff going into stock every day
When you were shipping PPE out to the NYC/NJ region, it made a sincere difference.
my friend said his mask also smelled like oil
spark, leave it out for an hour and it'll go away - its from the PVC tubing since the box was sealed for many months
@slate valley that's the plasticy stuff in the box
it is not oil
we are oil free
🙂
this thing has a magnetometer so you could do a rotary knob like what I showed on Show & Tell
oh interesting
Well, after a 5 minute struggle, I think one of the alligator clips won, haha. I can't seem to pinch it open without it spinning in its plastic enclosure. Any tips for getting it to stop spinning when I press it? Can I heat it like a heat shrink to tighten the fit?
I suspect even a piece of flat "fridge magnet" would be strong enough if you put it very close
@juan, hold the side with two fingers to pinch it in place
then you can open it with the other hand
@modest vector yeah I have trouble with alligator clips too, they invite you to do it all with one hand but maybe try what ladyada suggests
Two hands works! Though, I have to let go to place it on the clue. But okay, I think I finally managed to get it on the clue. Phew 🙂
👍
Pull the plastic covering down so it's tight
🤏
Wow, no wonder mag data isn't very useful for VR orientation tracking - the tiny strip of metal in the battery case is enough to distort the reading of the Earth's field ...
I guess there are algorithms to help correct for that but .. it's above my expertise level to understand or implement them.
Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits : - Tools Gift Certificates Arduino Cables Sensors LEDs Books Breakout Boards Power EL Wire/Tape/Panel Components & Parts LCDs & Displays Wearables Prototyping Raspberry Pi Wireless Young Engineers 3D printing NeoPixe...
Yeah, it's not above my level (sometimes it's my job) but I've never gotten such a visceral sense of the data before, that live graph is awesome
Alright, first Adabox! I'm excited.
I just bought some plants. Now I can't wait for customs to release my adabox 😄
By the way, I got two gloves, was that a fluke?
Congrats! Yes sounds like a fluke
@modest vector me too.
yay thank you jp - we did it!!!
@open girder 😆
fantastic unboxing @haughty quiver !
any hints on adabox 16?
For which I am thankful! Just have to buy another CLUE, and have two motion controllers while playing the Jammy MIDI guitar.
@slate valley for adabox 16... no clue 😉
Thanks so much everybody, really glad I subscribed last fall.
Excellent job @haughty quiver, as always 🙂
👋
Thanks @haughty quiver and @open girder
:p
Hi John! Continue to love your moustache!
a fun hour - thank you everyone
Thanks all!
thanks to all subscribers for sticking with us!!!!
@haughty quiver will there be a guide for putting the tape on my mask?
the last 3 months have been like 9 years
Another great unboxing @haughty quiver , thank you for your time
Right on, I appreciate it!

blast -> sega genesis
This guide is also not for cuttlefish. Cephalopods are awesome, but they prefer analog tools.
🦑
thanks all for doing the shows even if I don't see it live I watch them on youtube
@wild urchin nice! 🎸
@haughty quiver I know! I'm pretty pumped. Got to dust off my CircuitPython chops and learn more about MIDI.
Awesome, just ask here or in #help-with-circuitpython if you have any questions.
Is the "some nod to a cult-classic film" going to be a constant? Last time we were told to not feed the tft gizmo after midnight, this time the bonsai buckaroo... All these movies I haven't watched 🙈
I guess I need to go digging on the streaming services
Heh heh...
When will the video be posted online? I don't think I paid a lot of attention to what John was saying because I was playing with the clue, haha.
The VoD should be on Twitch already, and if not on YouTube -- it'll be shortly.
Oh, I forgot about Twitch. I was watching on YouTube, thanks!
No problem, enjoy!
I missed it!
The Adafruit page on YT said it was going to be at 11 PM
I tuned in at 10 and it was already over.
@noble grove the timezone was wrong on the schedule! sorry!
Watching replay now.
Sorry @noble grove I entered the schedule time in Pacific time zone, but YT expects Eastern time zone.
No worries. I watched it on replay.
Have to admit that it was fun unboxing to the unboxing video. 🙂
@haughty quiver @open girder @proper trench sorry for the late question - is the firmware (or the source for the firmware, even better) that's loaded on our adabox CLUEs available somewhere? I'm ready to start playing with circuitpython on it, but I don't want to lose this awesome grapher forever. I backed up the current.uf2 file, if nothing else
I could only find a learn guide for a CircuitPython version of the demo, though it mentioned the Arduino version
@drifting wyvern the .uf2 you backed up is all you need!
I'll look and see if we have it posted somewhere.
This is one nice thing about boards that use .uf2 files, if you compile an Arduino sketch for a board and flash it, the .uf2 file can be dropped back on it at any time.
cool, thanks, so at least I have the binary.
https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Arcada/tree/master/examples/full_board_tests/arcada_clue_sensorplotter looks similar to the demo that was shown, but I don't think it has the bubble/spirit level portion. I only skimmed the code, so my impressions may be wrong.
@robust horizon ah, looks like it's at least close, thanks for the link
@haughty quiver Is there a jp workshop today
@sterile forge Yes, there will be a Workshop stream today.
@clear matrix thanks for the info
You're welcome!
@drifting wyvern @haughty quiver I was a little to quick to update my Clue from the Adabox and did not backup the .uf2 unfortunately. Would be nice to see the code for that version as it runs (well, it did run until I overwrote it) pretty clean.
@thin river You can find past (and newest development) versions at the links here, down the right side: https://circuitpython.org/board/clue_nrf52840_express/
@strong acorn thanks for the link. I had looked at those, but did not see the exact one that was on the board - starts with the DigiKey logo and then the bubble level. I could have missed it though.
@thin river It's not available anywhere yet. I believe the graphing part of the demo is the CLUE_test file in the Arduino library for CLUE. The spirit level may not have been posted. We're looking into it.
Or rather it's an Arcada demo perhaps? I'm honestly not certain. But either way, we are looking into it.
@clear matrix great, thanks for checking!
You're welcome! I'll try to remember to let you know what ends up happening,. Otherwise, you can post to the forums your request and in theory someone will reply there once we have it sorted.
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
And good afternoon to you, Lars. Yes, we saw you last night. Thanks for behaving during the unboxing.

Scott's Deep Dive is a show where Scott Shawcroft (tannewt) tackles a project -- usually CircuitPython development, but it could be a personal project or another Adafruit product development -- and you're essentially an interactive "fly on the wall". You see all the work that goes into it, the trials and tribulations, etc

Yes, we need more nmigen streams. I've learning about it a month ago and it's so cool. I've been using Icestudio before, and it's super simple to learn.
What FPGA?... mine is Lattice Ice40 plus
I have some FPGA boards from a kickstarter years ago, but had no idea what to do with them once I got them.
Icestudio is a block interface which makes perfect sense for a chip, as it is a physical thing.
It’s the shape shifter of IC’s
I want to make a "GPU" for CPY with a FPGA...
I can relate to the "idea" switching every few weeks
TinyFPGA BX is very cool, but has a "smaller" chip.
I think for what you want, both could work. But yeah, I want an orange crab.
I want way too many boards 😦
@benjamin Didn't know that, thanks a lot!
The Lattice ICE40 ultraplus breakout was only like $70, but no microcontroller on it
Gateware I love it
Only just heard the term gateware...am used to 'bitstream'
I'd really like a CPY board that outputs to HDMI...I'm starting to develop one...but got a few other things to make first.
WANT has eaten 1/3 of my tax return already.
I have the TinyFPGA BX and ICEbreaker... never done anything with it. 😦
@drifting arch RpiZeroW is what I'm practising with, then port to esp32
@wind spoke Try it with icestudio. Just playing with logic gates and leds is an example you can get working in no time.

Off-topic shoutout to Wyrmwood Gaming for taking so much of my money and being relatively good employers during pandemic.
There's a couple of cool examples, like an enigma machine, with the rotary encoders and reflectors.
breaks out my cane
Yes, I got mine through groupgets
I was here for the Y2K problem.....
How many acronyms can you fit in 128M of ddr3 :þ
Totally agree with you on short names, I wish people wouldn't go to far in the other direction though.
I'm all for verbose source codes 🙂
@gusty wedge That depends on how much you're willing to stomp your word alignment, and which character set you're willing to use.
i'm from a dark age where the assembler for the micro wouldnt handle labels over 6 characters. Lots of Annnn labels
LadyAda should be an NMI.
Video paused for just me?
are you frozen
Video seems paused on Twitch....
but the voice goes on
Ah. it's Frozen. We should just Let it Go.
lol
just sit next to the cat
"Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
On guy try to be serious and the other joke.
The cat doesn't like bitstream that is generated, it prefers to write verilog by hand...
Did people have opinions on https://1bitsquared.com/collections/fpga/products/icebreaker
?
The chat is working. A 3rd option if to pipe the camera via libcaca.
i have one of those also. works. i did something with a led panel
nods nods nods nods
they all seem to work, its just picking one , essentially. or all of them and dither between them all
@simple fractal that's what I have done with my Adafruit boards.
afternoon.
(and guitar effects pedals, and now MIDI controller devices)
Props to OBS once you've popped you just can't stop
Not nmigen, but it need the complete toolchain and it's several tools.
Yeah, there are too many TLAs.
@simple fractal buy many, and never use them for anything.
lol
That lambda soc stuff is the clearest FPGA CPU stuff I've seen, thnx

Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT engineer, Limor "Ladyada" Fried. Her goal was to create the best place online for learning electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels.
i like dev boards with shcematics and board layouts. they are my basis for my own poor efforts. except i can never solder bga at home. hats off to GregDavill doing that
aaastnaapt. Got it.
nota bene: SRAM is usually static RAM, DRAM is usually dynamic RAM, the difference being that DRAM requires fewer components but needs to be refreshed regularly (I think because it's based around a capacitor that leaks charge) whereas SRAM doesn't require rewriting to refresh, but uses more components and is therefor more expensive per bit.
Gotta be careful not to step on yourself over a boundary..
Potentially multiple ram chips on and off board theoretically?
Scott's Ames' room 🙂
Thought you could "add more" externally as long as CPY code included new bus+memory address
The wires are the pins.
Don't truncate unless hyperlink, very useful for n00bs to know parent class/lib/namespace
Do you think that soc could work on "smaller" board other than the orange?
... raw memory access in Python makes me really queasy as an idea.
It feels like it violates the bytecode/vm isolation.
This book introduces all the key topics that system-on-chip (SoC) and FPGA designers need to know when integrating a Cortex-M processor into their design, including bus protocols, bus interconnect, and peripheral designs.
Would it facilitate libraries using DMA style use for esp32
But, I'm coming from software development/DevOps world rather than microcontroller world.
The gemma build still fails. Too little flash. How are those error that are not error work?
Failing since this morning
trinket_m0
So in this case as you mentioned, it didn't touch the gemma. Could the "too little flash" be ignored or.. yeah, that was my question.
trinket failed at idf?
trinket_m0 failed for too little flash.
The xtensa builds are all failing because virtualenv is returning error code 1
I have a cat story...we have a cat who visits our garden most days, we were having a BBQ, and the cat who we call Tigger was hanging around the table whilst we eat...then...about 15 minutes later we saw Tigger again...and following it....3 tiny tiny kittens...too cute!
Ipv6?
Can you explain that reset another way pleade
Thanks, the "destroy" function. The context was very helpful
What do the cashes do?
Can't stay awake...have fun. 😴
Ok thx
Search Cache
it will be helpful when searching to use the non-obvious spelling
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache_(computing)
Something tickling the back of the mind was to ditch mbedtls? and use bearTLS to save loads of space
I'm probably being dense, but how did the addition of 1MB to the OTAs only need a couple 10k removed from user-fs?
ah, gotcha
Don't work and woops moments are as interesting as the new architecture (your WiFi scanning), just extend the episode and debug too ;)
On native I'm getting:
$ make V=2 BOARD=espressif_saola_1_wrover
GEN build-espressif_saola_1_wrover/genhdr/mpversion.h
python3 ../../py/makeversionhdr.py build-espressif_saola_1_wrover/genhdr/mpversion.h
make: *** No rule to make target 'lib/tinyusb/src/portable/espressif/esp32s2/dcd_esp32s2.c', needed by 'build-espressif_saola_1_wrover/genhdr/qstr.i.last'. Stop.
I've started on a different directory, so it's a fresh clone.
So it resets because of the LED error?
Yeah, I am missign git submodules. Thanks.
LEDC is PWM out
Got you, thanks
Maybe creep some features back out?
Modules are same price (currently) with and without PSRAM
someone will remember this quote 'Not a lot of work'
quality is great. chat is witty, all good
Does board/busio library handle DMA?
Re RAM lib: First project for my Sparkfun ESP32 Thing, feels a bit out of reach for my C skills but tempted.
You need an entropy generator for TLS, that uses the cat's position as IV
Cloudflare actually uses lava lamps for that.
Not even sure what PSRAM is, missed some of the chat.
external ic that acts as ram
OIC, thank you.
esp32 uses a specific chip for that.
I haven't coded much C for microcontrollers, I guess I could buy some and let the magic smoke out of them.
You can't got wrong with a tenners worth of cheap Arduino nano clones (expect to get 5)
@rapid hornet don't make it a challenge!
st discovery boards are usually inexpensive. and the espressif saola as well
not a request, but yeah, we are still missing a cool controller for drones.
Sweet, follow one adafruit tutorial, but maybe combine with something on instructables.com to spark the imagination
One of the strengths of the Adafruit products is that Limor buffers everything. I've popped a number of other boards by accidentally putting 5v on a 3v line.
i've been using platformio in vscode for all my micro stuff. the arduino ide did not tickle my fancy 🙂
Imagination isn't the problem, executive function is the problem.
that and various free ide from mfgr
For me it's fear of burning up the one board I have, hence the cheap clones comment :)
Piles of old st micro dev kits.
I have about 15 databases fighting to get out of my head, but I haven't gotten my PostgreSQL install stable on my primary laptop.
UK included?
heh.
Wait, which dev board?
a cella?
No, can afford, just need to be pointed at one.
how did it go with the V3 of the saola-feather adapter?
Ah, OK, hearing error.
I put circuitpython on this. Given that’s it’s a standard WROVER It makes sense.
I have the tough that the v3 adapter could use a button for actually doing the double press for the uf2 reset.
I'm in Westchester, I could just drive down and knock on the door.
yeah, those Gravitech cucumbers are close cloines... some have sensors on board
can anyone do the board def?
@simple fractal I was going to write them to see if they needed help with it.
ooooooh, I guess I should raid my Hackerbox collection for Espressif boards.
i got the one with sensors. makes it easy to test stuff
They look like nice boards.
as scott gets stuff going i can play 🙂
Poor cat!
and they have USB-C , unexpectedmaker should be happy
Yeah, I'm still getting errors trying to get a compile that branch. I started over, and now while downloading the submodules, I get
fatal: remote error: upload-pack: not our ref e15ce11ebca15a1f6eca22779e89f761b1fc2142
fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly
Fetched in submodule path 'ports/esp32s2/esp-idf', but it did not contain e15ce11ebca15a1f6eca22779e89f761b1fc2142. Direct fetching of that commit failed.
i've mostly given up trying to build scott latest branches, something was broken and i had some issues. may go back and try again.
and i'm using wsl2 on win10 so that may also cause some issues. at least its easy to wipe and reload 🙂
Get well spook.
had time to read ports/esp32s2/tools/decode_backtrace.py
- no clue in commit message for this useful wrapper to xtensa-esp32s2-elf-addr2line 🙂
i am voting for shorter board names
Ah, thank you.
wsl2 mostly brings me joy and no problems (win10 pro docker with wsl integration enabled) except permissions on odd shared file where Linux is picky.
yes, i am pretty happy with it. only with we had usb and peripheral access. i have to flash from windows
hyperv limitation probably.
or feature
Hehe yeah
SD flashing still green screens in win half the time (fast ring insider build tho)
costco has a nice room airconditioner for under $400
https://www.costco.com/de'longhi-pinguino-400-sq-ft-3-in-1%3A-air-conditioner%2C-dehumidifier%2C-fan.product.100521025.html
lol, i'm lucky here in BC, pretty cool at night so a big window fan pulls air into my bedroom and makes it comfortable
The error above was failed to call stop scanning
you're doing well! keep at it
Are you envisioning eventually incorporating most of the low-level wi-fi APIs, and the protocol stuff like websockets?
That's python libs doing websockets, already handled once Tcpip/udp stuff works
Gotcha. Just wondering since IDF has a lot of protocol stuff
Assuming you had enough RAM of course. Although I'm not great with the IDF to be honest
Just tweaked others code so far and read n watched a lot.
Makes sense, thanks.
Yeah, I already miss it.
OK, boards ordered from mouser.
I made a car back in cpy 3.0 that used the webrepl and you drove it from webrepl and I loved it so much... I'm sure nicer alternatives will appear.
Three each of ESP32-S2-Saola-1M and ESP32-S2-Saola-1RI so I can let the magic smoke out a couple of times.
yay
i'm redoing the saola-feather breakout to use grove connectors 🙂 all my sensors are using that
Don't grove git stemma or is that Qt and quiic
that would. too many choices 🙂
I do love the tiny version of the connector in the stemmas.
what is the actual stemma connector?
i dislike all these names when they are some standard connector
They are JST
yes must be. everything is JST in the end 🙂
The radio should not be able to tune and listen to other channels even if they overlap. So, I'm guessing no.
Does that currently scan "all" the channels in the array, not the configuration specific ones?
And a continue statement if not in valid range
It's gpod
Its BC family day monday. Lots of tourists up here. So i'm hiding
youtube was in 240p. thought my eyes had gone
Scanning true not set if it works any more
no its just me. for some reason live channels seem to default to low res .i manually change it and then its ok
Sorry I thought bracket change and scanning true was if successfully
same link from youtube - link was to github
Test null and comment out channel then test that then end 😉
But it should be passive, no?
What's difference, does it broadcast a request for Access Points or something?
As I quick read it, it seems that active is if you know the name.
But if you don't know the names, you should only listen for the names.
passive listening for Beacons vs. active Probe Requests (which may, or may not, contain an SSID)
Good shout, it was used in BLE examole
probes. ok.
The zero
The radio should not be able to tune and listen to other channels even if they overlap. So, I'm guessing no.
@gusty wedge The overlap is just that someone on the neighborg channel will create interference with you. But you should not be able to see their traffic our announce. Just noise to you.
thanks @rapid hornet
Deep dive into the sea-weeds.
active is also for hidden SSID.
Cool dive, and yeah, more nmigen.
Thanks for another awesome Friday stream @rapid hornet
rest your eyes.
Thanks Scott.
Thanks Scott. Bless you
thanks
☮️
thanks all!
I loved the brodcast
@rapid hornet - which board were you running code in on 7/31
thanks @rapid hornet - I finally downloaded the esp-idf libraries - only - thought I'd go shopping tonight -
( and thanks for taking the time and effort into your deep dives - I think we all benefit by listening to each other - I learn something new each time )
Trying to decide if I should plan ahead for the Orange Crap too 🙂
Does anyone know the difference between the
- ESP32-S2-Saola-1M and the
- ESP32-S2-Saola-1MI ( e.g what does the trailing I mean? )
The -I has an IPEX external antenna connector, whereas the base one has a PCB antenna, I believe.
@thin parrot - thanks - I see this in the WROOM datasheet, with the -I having an external antenna
The "I" variants with the IPEX connector also have the PCB antenna, which makes me wonder if it uses the PCB antenna when no IPEX antenna is connected. I have yet to do signal strength tests to get a hint of whether this is true or not.
I believe there's a solder jumper or something which disconnects the PCB antenna by default.

While the layer by layer tutorial shows how to make the parts the method used to import them no longer works.
The parts must be imported in eagle instead.
I'm very interested in the neon signage -- I've been looking at multiple commercial offerings, seeing how I can do my own & improve upon what they offer. So thanks for prototyping that 🙂
Imagine combining it with a wireless charging station
I love that demo code for the LED circle.
@waxen thistle many thanks to @robust horizon for reigniting the idea
Is LED circle code something upcoming, or is that already available?
You guys rock, thank you 🙂
And hats off to @clear matrix for that rockin' LED animation code.
Oh look, I'm wearing TWO hats! Another one goes off for @jagged aspen 🎩
@clear matrix Very modest to credit everyone and not just yourself
Though he will tell you that all he does is write some code, I'm the one who makes it work for folks on the user-spectrum.
Yeah, I suck at documentation and designing solid APIs that make sense to other people than me.
We all can reach higher when we stand on each other's shoulders.
now this could be also remake old games
think those old tableboard games
@strong topaz I always try to remember to do that. Very little in the CircuitPython sphere was any one person's work, it really is, at its core, a group effort.
You are very kind
The best results come from working as a diverse team with different ideas and ways of approaching problems.
The random LEDs that shifted in colors felt very familiar. I don't know from where, but it felt so comfortable. Like -- "yes. yes! that's exactly what a random cycling LED should look like."
The fact that the people @open girder are creating 3d models for all there thousands of parts to help speed up our workflows is very nice.
that neopixel ring case made me thinking old tableboard game with right answer on question you get the part of pie to your playing part

Is there a setting for emoji size in discord? I notice in the stream that the pizza emoji above was "small" but on my screen the same message shows the emoji bigger.
I was waiting for the percussion intro to Hamilton's opening song 🙂
@smoky island It's when it's posted without any text.
Thats what I thought, but at the end of the stream they pulled up discord and the pizza seemed to appear smaller on their screen.
I get rather annoyed by it because my emotions are not usually THAT BIG.

As a friendly reminder, no Ask an Engineer tonight -- videos will be posted as the week continues on the Adafruit YouTube channel
Here is the macropad-sicle interest check for anyone who would like to check it out https://forms.gle/AP83z8FZjpNaWTQb9
Thank you all for showing cools things. You have repaired my day.

Several years ago when I was doing the eyes with the teensy 3.2 I was able to find pictures of human eyes on the internet and digitize them for the animated eyes, they were very realistic looking having come from real eyes. I really wish Adafruit would get in some of the round displays that can be found on aliexpress and make a board for them. I plan to start working on the eyes code again and maybe get the scaled eyelids working since I figured out the problem with the code. (Hint it was not the eye code per se, but the way arduino handles memory) It is just hard to go back to projects that are years old when there are so many wonderful new projects to build.
Been programming various languages for 44 years now picked up a book on python. Does not seem too bad. Some weird commands though.
Probably would not have bothered trying to learn python if not for Adafruit.
@rapid hornet Where did you search for the USB breakout in the Apr 10, 2020 Deep Dive ( https://youtu.be/5zq8RHXVdSI?t=3454 ) - it was off screen
eventually I found a site that had the green and white reversed from what you said: https://turbofuture.com/computers/Color-Coded-Wire-inside-the-USB
USB Cable Colors and What They Mean:
Red color indicates the positive wire with 5 volts of DC power.
Black is always the ground wire in almost all electronic devices.
White is a "positive" wire for data as a "positive" wire, and
Green is also for the data, but as the "negative" wire.
Watch as Scott tries out the latest version of TinyUSB on the brand new ESP32-S2. Hang in there through the bumps and crashes to see it work! Then, Scott goes over things to think about when bringing CircuitPython to the ESP32-S2.
