Here's a little story -- buy books from trusted sellers like Adafruit.
I bought a copy of AoE 3rd edition direct from Amazon back in 2017. Thing is, they pulled from shared stock with 3rd party sellers. Which was a counterfeit copy.
If AoE didn't have a way to ID counterfeits page on their website, I'd be stuck with a full-priced fake. I was able to return it, and bought one from Adafruit to replace it.
