My final in electronics (USN) was a box with wire wrappers, spool of wire, bunch of transisters, diodes, resisters switches, 387 lamps(with holders), some iron cores and four hours to build my 4 bit computer, write a program for it and then let my istructor break it.

Hi @haughty quiver , sorry so long to get back. Remodeling bathroom and been out getting stuff. My mask arrived with one blind eye. I been hesitant to speak about it until the unboxing. I tried the connector reseat, no joy there, even tyried putting the jumper cable into play, again no joy. Last night while trying out the easter egg the screen went out and now will not come on under any circumstance. So, I did some surgery. and removed the screen (probably voiding any warranty). I don't have a microscope but through my best magnifying lens, it appears that there is something going on under the connection point where the backlight connects.

At any rate, I have two new TFT Gizmos and I removed the screen from one and have the Mask working like brand new. The gizmo with the old screen does not display. I will contact Adafruit support with my issue and see what they say. Thank you very much for your support and keep up the great shows. Sorry I missed todays.

I don't know if it would work.. there is some pretty low level fiddling going on.

It's used a lot in fastled animations.. but this is a whole different beast

Phil B's comments tend to warn against assuming things in user.cpp will run in an on time fashion. The eye rendering takes precedence.

I think the assumptions of how execution is meant to flow are the same. You could imagine user.cpp operating inside a EVERY N MILLISECONDS call. The obvious difference is that there is no guarantee how long between loops. In practice though it's called many times even in 1/20 of a second

I love how @haughty quiver can make a solder sucker sound cool. I was looking thru the Adafruit offerings and thinking I could find something that JP would have a hard time with as a featured product.. I found nothing or is it just that I can come up with a use for anything 🙂

I mean I was laughing and totally skeptical when his featured product was a solder sucker.. a minute later I was thinking that I needed to upgrade the cheap one I have 🙂

Seriously. I agree with you I would be skeptical, but I have one, and oi..... So worth it.

Comes with one ~3cm length of silcone tube for changing out the tip, but Adafruit sells another package of 2 more of those, if you order one, I recommend getting the extra tubing while you're at it. It's a couple of bucks and will come in handy eventually.

But I had to desolder an entire Feather because I needed to do a project with female headers on the top and only had one fresh Feather... Easily done with that sucker.

I'm fond of that solder sucker too, it's my go-to tool for most such jobs (although I have a larger, less dainty one for bigger jobs, and one of the ancient Radio Shack squeeze-bulb ones too). I did get the extra silicone tubing with it, just in case.

you can just type in the size of the battery you need , and you can get several brands. pkcell is good, i wonder if samsung or panasonic makes flatpacks. i need a few. you can leech some phone batteries, i think they have the protection circuit in them

I was thinking of 3D printing a carrier for the ubiquitous Nokia 511? battery - can't remember the part no.

i did something like that for an old battery i had, get some pogo pins and you can easily insert and remove them and swap out easy

may even be able to get the temp pin to work, battery dependent.

just watch out, some batteryies are nott the 3.7 regular batteries. they may be 3.8 or something different, i havent bothered looking to see it can be charged the same way, (anyone have input on that)

im still a C person, i havent done a python or MC programe for regular use yet

I'm anything but a new electronics user, but I remember my first experience with MakeCode [probably last year? maybe earlier?]....

....I intentionally rushed it. Clicked the biggest, most colorful looking buttons. Barely read anything. Behaved as absentmindedly as possible. And under 4 minutes I was making LEDs blink with a platform I never used before.

I recommend Mu for circuit python. Download at codewith.mu

I never found a platform as easy to use and easy to get started as MakeCode. It was so easy and tolerant of intentional mistakes.

i have used Makecode for quick and dirty tests, but not logical step stuff. its hates me and what i want to do with it.
