Every so often in the server logs I am getting an attempted join that always fails that it failed to verify username, invalid session etc. The username of this connection is under someone who does play on the sever, but I've asked if they attempted to join at these times and they haven't and they can also join usually, which we have just tested.

I've traced the IP to a data center in London with the domain of m247.com, this is a proxy though so the only thing I can off is that it is a bot with a cracked account attempting to connect. Is my friend's account compromised, or just a bot attempting to use the same Minecraft username?

99% sure it's just a bot, if you have online mode enabled there's no need to worry about this.
