Hi! I’ve been wanting to start a server from my own rig for a while now, and I’m just now starting to research for it.

Right now I only really have two questions I couldn’t find online.

-Are there any safety concerns for having a self-hosted server?

  • Mainly asking this because I know that port forwarding can be common in server hosting, but I have no idea if Unturned uses it or not.

-What would be considered the minimal specs for running an unturned server + having your own client running to play yourself?

  • Overall I wanted to know what would be a sweet spot for capacity with performance from my specific specs: RTX 2060 Super, i9 Processor, and 8-16GB ram ( i forgot which of the two )
  • And if playing on the same desktop that hosts the server has some performance hits, could I just use a spare laptop to host it depending on its specs?

Technically yes, but none you realistically need to be aware of or should be concerned about - as with anything else, U3 servers do require port forwarding.

There's no real answer to this - I'll note that an "i9" is a meaningless term and does not help us - you'd also want to actually know your RAM amount and it'd be preferable for it to be over 16GB

there's nothing stopping you from using any other computer for hosting, either, not sure why that is even a question
