Hi, I'm trying to host a server for max 80 people with mods around 50 and it's like 500 MB. What CPU, RAM, space would I need?

well, space and RAM don't matter much - RAM is just going to be about 1.5GB + mods and servers don't take much space, either

#

in terms of CPU any semi-recent (Zen 2 or above for AMD, 10th series or higher for Intel) consumer (not server) CPU should do, you'd specifically want at least 2 vcores

#

CPU requirements could go up if there are heavy plugins

Okay thanks

Especially when you have 80 players building items and adding to words assets.

#

I would recommend getting some high ram along with a good cpu

Is there any good ratio player to ram needed?

Nah just buy like 6gb-10gb

#

You said 50+ mods that takes some ram and you don't want your server to clock out and do the infinite restart.

Now If it is a pvp type server then 6gb would be fit.

#

Hence why I said 6gb-10gb as the range is vast.

#

Also I think your underestimating what 80 players can do to a server.

#

But as I said 10gb is on the high end 6gb-10gb means anywhere on between that as such 6 7 8 9 10 therfore he may not need 10gb but for what he is wanting to run I would assume he would need 6gb or more. This all depends on mods. Mods take some ram along with map size ect. Neylex, OGN, hypnotic and a few other big servers would need 10gb of ram. They all have around 80 players (not nylex but he has tons of mods) so I would say that estimate would be a good one. And you assuming you need 1.5gb is crazy as the server uses more then that to even boot up. Also unless the mods are very small it's going to take atleast a few gb to load. Plus any other player built structures.

It's more or less if they build alot of stuff in a area it uses more ram same with the cpu. Cpu takes the blunt of it but you would still require more ram.

I'll also note that at least of those servers OGN didn't use that much the last I heard GrieferThonk

#

don't really know anything about the others

#

I could find out but I doubt any are using 10

#

and, as I originally said, it's 1.5GB + mods

undone cove
#

Ah my bad I read it as 1.5gb total.

I would ask him and see.

#

I don't play alot of rp servers I played ong for a bit but then it kind of died out.

RAM and space not mattering much in general is very much true though, particularly compared to CPU - I've yet to see many people limited by RAM or especially disk space but CPU has been a problem for ages, especially with how single-threaded the game is and how badly a lot of plugins behave

almost nobody does

#

I believe bisect will.

compact badge
#

there are a few services that will advertise such but there's always some sort of an usage limit, usually covered in the terms

undone cove
#

Yea I don't think a unturned server will reach that though

compact badge
#

not that it matters, for actual game server stuff you'd be severely limited by other factors first

undone cove
#

True.

#

I would buy like a good cpu and a decent amount of ram more mods more ram.

compact badge
#

the only game that I know of that realistically can have a server's size balloon quite a bit is Minecraft but even that is rare and usually limited to plain survival servers and the like

larger (or long-term) servers can have 100GB+ of files practically entirely through map exploration

#

I'd be surprised if you could find many Unturned servers using 10GB, much less 20GB of space

#

basically for Unturned you need at most about 4GB + mods of actual disk space - assuming you don't have any plugins creating large files for some unknown reason

I'll think about it and thanks

if you get plugins, remember to clean your logs from time to time

#

for example there, for some reason it generated that file (see image) , and my server only has 3 GB of storage space...

Pustalorc from Imperial plugins said it was a core dump:

Core memory dump in Linux. Created by a server crash.
and its safe to delete. Similarly, sometimes plugins can start spamming errors on console nonstop, creating huge log files as a result, which are also fine to delete.

This server is handling 50ish players right now and wipes monthly, yet it hasn't reached the 3GB of storage mark. and other than logs, I don't really delete/clean stuff on it often

#

I'll note that log files are automatically deleted so no reason to care about them

#

especially if you're not downloading them elsewhere it doesn't make sense to get rid of them prematurely

foggy folio
#

Oh didnt know that lmao

compact badge
#

plugins generating whatever files on their own could be suspect but unless they're doing something really weird log files shouldn't be any kind of an issue

For me it happened when the hosting kept having networking issues, mysql plugins kept generating errors over and over and log files were getting crazy
