#Allow Audio & Music Toggles During Cutscenes

Many players, myself included, often play Old School RuneScape with sound and music turned off. Whether it’s multitasking, playing in public, or simply preferring a quieter experience, this is a very common way to play.

However, OSRS cutscenes are a special case.

Cutscenes are some of the most carefully crafted moments in the game rich in lore, atmosphere, and iconic music. When a cutscene triggers, it’s often the one moment where I want sound enabled to fully experience it. Unfortunately, once a cutscene begins, there is currently no way to toggle music or sound back on, despite other interface elements still being visible or accessible.

Why this change makes sense

Improves immersion without changing gameplay
This doesn’t affect balance, XP rates, or mechanics. It purely enhances storytelling and atmosphere.

Respects player choice
Players who want silence can keep it. Players who want music only during cutscenes can finally enjoy it.

Consistency with visible UI
During cutscenes, players can still see parts of the interface, yet audio controls are inaccessible. Allowing sound toggles would feel intuitive and consistent.

Showcases OSRS music & sound design
OSRS has legendary tracks tied to quests and story moments. This feature helps ensure that work is actually heard and appreciated.

Possible implementation ideas

  • Allow the existing sound & music sliders to be clickable during cutscenes

  • Or add a small “Enable music for this cutscene” toggle

  • Or auto-enable music for cutscenes as a togglable setting

No major rework required, just a small QoL tweak that would significantly improve narrative moments.

cutscenes happen during quests, so it's literally just your own fault for not turning audio on when you started the quest...

and it's not like quests are designed so audio is only important during cutscenes - all your arguments apply for all the other parts of quests outside of cutscenes, such as boss fights, or when you're exploring a new area

it's an entire self imposed problem that can be solved by pressing 2 buttons in a menu before starting a quest

#

however I don't really have any issue with a button that toggles audio being available during cutscenes, as long as it's somewhere completely out of the way of the actual cutscene

and how would i know it has a cutscene before the quest starts?

okay i'm reading your post a bit more closely now and it seems you (or chatgpt, the one who wrote the suggestion) just want to arbitrarily listen to the music only during cutscenes - even though you're arguing for atmosphere and immersion, which is something that doesn't just... stop existing when you're not in a cutscene lol

no? dude @vocal tartan all i want is the dang settings menu to be clickable instead of the friends list that is completely useless during cutscenes

i fully agree with this request.
i've done quests and suddenly the barbarian training montage shows up and im desperately trying to find the audio switch.
