Ban Brand New Discord Accounts

Been seeing it more and more but we keep getting people using weird alt accounts or trolls being disruptive or creepy on practically freshly made discord accounts.

It's not everyday, sure, but it feels like it's been happening once or twice a week now. On a fairly active League of Legends discord server I'm on, we solved this issue by just blocking any user with an account that was less than a month old. Personally, I think 1 to 2 weeks is probably enough to dissuade the common troll while still not impacting the majority of users.

Anyway, just a thought. Saw another dude being weird on a practically brand new user account so figured I'd say something.

While we do keep watch and have various systems in place which flag suspicious behaviour, it's really useful if you can send us a @pure hull when you spot anything we should be aware of. 🙂

Once we've been alerted to it, we'll then monitor and take necessary steps.

a very good idea, everytime i get a random dm, its a scam and the account is never older than a month or so lol, less than a month is always sus, mule acc

This server is the official point of contact for Jagex since they shut down forums, a lot of players who play the game and would want to discuss it would possibly be new accounts. Banning less than month old accounts would just harm the community outreach

At least heavily restrict accounts that are made the same day

Leave the questions and account help channels open

Maybe have a limit to how many messages per hour they can send in #old-school or #general

You can have monitoring systems but sadly it's only a question of when not if someone will abuse the server's somewhat lax protections
