Fishing Trawler just isn't fun. Whether it's for the step in a master clue scroll, another grind before going for the spirit angler outfit, or filling the collection log, it doesn't matter why player feel they have to do it, nobody - nobody in chat says it's fun. In fact, they have more creative words.
Long term players certainly "paid their dues". Changing the angler outfit pieces from 1/8 to 1/12 prolongs the loss of time.
Hence, I call it Fishing Troller.
Plugging holes for several minutes is an easy way to get max contribution in the game. Chopping at a tentacle briefly once every 45 seconds is enough to get the 50 point minimum for a chance at an angler outfit piece. It's such an easy minigame.
But it's not even a grind. Osrs has plenty of grind. This pales. Hours upon hours. Cheese grater to the forehead.
Sunk cost fallacy epitomized.
I realize many players "paid their dues". Is that why Jagex fails to update content like Trouble Brewing? Or Troller?
Troller just isn't fun.
Troller involves no risk or excitement.
Troller yields abysmal xp rewards.
Troller is so mind numbing even for afk content.
It's not the only minigame or activity that is boring ad nauseum.
From a marketing standpoint, I would want to attract new customers. The long term players aren't going to leave anytime soon.
The osrs discord community is pretty dedicated to the game.
Is anyone willing to say Fishing Trawler is fun?
The chat in the minigame suggests otherwise.
Any change would be an improvement. So add lemmings to the ship. We can watch them leave the ship over boredom.
