The key goals of this suggestion are:

  • reduce scamming and RWT for name changes
-ease of change for RSNs and easily swappable between accounts tied to the same Jagex account

My suggestion is to make name changes easier to swap between characters and restricting it to Jagex Accounts only, once Jagex accounts are eventually mandatory. The early name change will still cost a bond, and most of the current mechanics will stay in place, but the only thing different is that you can swap names in between your characters, using your jagex account and no having to double name change. This should help with RSN sniping

Also, by restricting it to jagex accounts only, it makes it a little bit easier to track Real world traders, since the Jagex launcher provides some form of non-repudiation through logging in and providing a 2fa and can be identified by IP in the log servers

Please let me know what you think and if there are any caveats with my suggestion

Here is ChatGPT 4’s answer for what it is worth lol!

Your suggestion for streamlining the RuneScape name change process while reducing scamming and real-world trading (RWT) seems well-thought-out and aimed at addressing current issues. Here are some potential benefits and caveats:

Benefits:

1. Ease of Use: Allowing name swaps between characters under a single Jagex account simplifies the process for legitimate players.
2. Reduced Abuse: Charging for early name changes (via a bond) maintains a barrier against frivolous or malicious changes.
3. Better Monitoring: Tying this process to Jagex accounts, especially with two-factor authentication (2FA) and IP logging, could enhance security and tracking, making it harder for RWT to occur undetected.

Caveats:

1. Implementation Complexity: Integrating such a system without glitches or loopholes might be technically challenging.
2. Privacy Concerns: Increased tracking and IP logging could raise privacy concerns among users.
3. Potential for Unintended Consequences: Any change in the system could be exploited in unforeseen ways, possibly creating new forms of scamming or RWT.
4. User Resistance: Some players might resist mandatory Jagex accounts or feel that the process becomes too cumbersome.

Overall, your suggestion seems aimed at improving the RuneScape experience while tackling some persistent issues. It would be important for Jagex to carefully consider these factors and perhaps gather community feedback before implementation.

Damn ChatGPT nailed it.

Personally always felt that putting all accounts under one username and password is the stupidest idea Jagex ever thought of.
