"What I am getting at, is how do players benefit from dumping years of their lives into playing this game? It would be nice if Jagex could tie in some real world "rewards" or "supports" for being a player in Runescape."
Its simple, they don't benefit in any way other way than mental stimulation from playing the game. If you want some IRL rewards then go do some IRL things that reward you instead of playing a video game that doesn't.
I get what you're saying in all this but its not jagex's job or responsibility to help those with a mental illness. Sure it'd be nice if they did but realistically these are developers of a video game. I doubt any of them has the sufficient degrees to be qualified to help those with mental illness. Getting many people who are and creating an entire department dedicated to such a thing would cost a major load of cash and I highly doubt that's in the budget. That's why they have specific programs and places out there to assist those with mental Illness. Jagex isn't one of those places. If someone is prioritizing a game over real life then its up to them to realize this and do something to fix it. That's not a jagex problem. People need to take responsibility for their own issues and actions and stop expecting others to change for them or do something special to help them. The world is a cruel and unfair place. Always has been and always will be. Seek help if you need it and stay away from things that are not good for you. Like getting addicted to a video game so much that it negatively effects your life and mental health.
