Welcome to the Official Old School RuneScape Discord Server!

To keep each other safe and comfortable within our space, we have set server rules and guidelines to follow. Remember, our moderation team is made up of volunteer players giving up their time to keep the server welcoming and inclusive - they can't help with in-game account issues or rule breaking reports.

:warning: Note: These rules and guidelines cover all areas of the server, including text channels, voice, and forum spaces, as well as your public discord profile (Nickname, bio, pronoun section, profile picture, banner, current activity and any other publicly visible section).

:warning: Note: While we have been as thorough as possible with our rule set, it is possible a situation may arise that we have not yet considered and isn't covered by our existing rules. If this occurs, our moderators will take actions they deem appropriate in the moment to de-escalate the situation. These actions will always be informed by how other rule breaks are actioned and based on severity. This will be followed by an internal discussion to see how best to reflect the issue in our rules going forward. If you feel you have received an action based on an activity not covered in our rules, please let our moderation team know during your 1 time review, or appeal process and we can clarify what happened.

⛔ You must not (These will result in an immediate ban)
    1. 🚫 Use extreme levels of discrimination or hate speech, offensive language directed at another user or staff member, or persistent harassment.
    1. 🚫 Share graphic NSFW content, including images and descriptions.
    1. 🚫 Post content relating to abuse of any kind, make threats to Jagex or its staff and moderation team.
    1. 🚫 Impersonate Jagex staff including ex-staff, the Chat moderation team or Support Volunteers.
    1. 🚫 Share anything that would be considered illegal that would be disturbing to others, for example murder, animal cruelty or child endangerment. (According to, but not limited by, UK law)
    1. 🚫 Post malicious links, QR codes or any other potential form of scam.
    1. 🚫 Post any content that constitutes as doxxing another user.
    1. 🚫 Promote or participate in OSRS TOS-breaking activities e.g. RWT, botting, advertising services, and the use of RSPS (RuneScape Private Servers). This includes advertising services or TOS breaking communities, your Discord activity status displaying active use of RSPS, and streamed content in VC channels.
    1. 🚫 If you're found to evade a punishment, your alt account will be banned and your main account will get an additional strike.

🛑 You should not: (These actions result in warnings & potential time-outs. Persistent actions may result in a ban)
    1. ❗Glorify and encourage OSRS TOS-breaking topics - this includes RWT, botting, advertising services, and the use of RSPS (RuneScape Private Servers). If you are found actively breaking or promoting services that break the Rules of RuneScape and ToS then this will result in an immediate ban as per our Must Not rules.
    1. ❗ Post any form of spam, including but not limited to, repeatedly copy & pasting the same statements, attempting to share the same links or statements across multiple channels, and mass pinging Chat Mods and/or JMods.
      • While it's fine to ping a Jmod for a specific in-game question or if you know them to be generally around and chatty in the server, any post that mass pings multiple JMods, or is requesting account help will be removed.
    1. ❗Glorify, promote or encourage any form of self-harm or wish harm on others.
    1. ❗Discuss any particularly divisive topics such as politics and religion. This includes sharing images and memes.
    1. ❗Antagonise, bait or otherwise troll other users particularly in a way that would lead them to a rule-breaking action. You also should avoid rising to any of these actions yourself.
    1. ❗Make sexually explicit comments or suggestions - the odd innuendo is fine but please keep in mind we are a 16+ rated game.
    1. ❗Threaten other users in any way.
    1. ❗Glorify or encourage the use of drugs, or have extended conversations about them.
    1. ❗Attempt to bypass our chat filters.
    1. ❗Name and shame or witch-hunt other players.
    1. ❗Begging (for in-game purposes or otherwise), luring other players, or otherwise instigate in-game trades.
    1. ❗Impersonate other users via your profile information.
    1. ❗Include political figures or content in your Discord profile, or in a way that suggests advertising or promoting a specific political view.
    1. ❗Self promote outside of designated channels (e.g. videos-and-streaming), including advertising your own Discord servers outside of the Clan forum spaces
    1. ❗ Share generative AI artwork or content in creative-based channels, or anywhere else claiming it as your own work.
      • Ideally you would avoid sharing AI work altogether, as we want to encourage our players to be creative but must protect those who create art. While doing so won't result in a ban, excessive sharing that resembles spam, sharing posts that are clearly AI generated, or sharing AI art suggesting it is your own, may result in message deletion or warnings.
    1. ❗Use our server to grief our server-ran events. Griefing includes actions that prevent attendees from being able to take part in the activity, and chasing world hops when asked to leave.
    1. ❗Request personal information from other users including real name or anything related to their identity, including race, gender, sexual orientation, location or contact details.
    1. ❗Use any form of hate speech or discrimination towards others based on personal identity (e.g. race, sexuality, gender identity and religion)
    1. ❗Post content that is abusive or otherwise objectionable/offensive.
    1. ❗Harass, abuse, or deliberately cause distress to any member of Jagex staff or our voluntary teams.

✅ You should (best practices - going against these wouldn't be moderated)
  • 💚 Be understanding and respectful to each other
  • 💚 Be constructive especially with feedback or criticism - our JMods actively use this server to gather -feedback, so when it's constructive, it goes a long way to helping them improve content.
  • 💚 Be mindful of what you share - remember our game is for 16+
  • 💚 Keep chat in English to help us to moderate effectively
  • 💚 Try to stay on topic for the channel you're in and use channels for their intended purposes - remember to check channel descriptions for how to use them ahead of posting. Errant messages may be removed to keep the channel on topic.
  • 💚 Be considerate with how you format your messages - too many line breaks or spamming caps is uncomfy to read
  • 💚 Be mindful of Discord scams and unsolicited DMs
  • 💚 Respect when a Moderator asks for topic changes - this will only happen when a topic verges on breaking the above rules
  • 💚 Keep all questions and queries for moderators to channels and ModMail - please don't DM our Chat Mods individually. You can tag <@&385422009930219520> if you encounter something you feel requires moderator intervention.

Note: some of the categories in our server have their own extra rules to suit the format of content found there. Any other rules for those spaces are in addition to the ones above.

How moderation works:

Our moderators work on a 3-strike system:

  • 1️⃣ First offence receives a warning - if moderators feel necessary this may include a 1-hour timeout to de-escalate the situation. You will be notified via ModMail.
  • 2️⃣ Second offence of the same or similar action, or multiple minor rule breaks in a short span of time results in a 48 hour timeout which will be automatically lifted upon completion. You will be notified via ModMail.
  • 3️⃣ Third offence of the same or similar action, following a warning as described in strike 1 and 2, triggers a removal and a 90-day ban from the server - You will receive a ModMail informing you of this action, along with information on actions that led to this step, and how to appeal.

🚫 Anything under the You Must Not category are an exception to this system - offenses in this category will result in an immediate ban.

⏸️ Where your public profile has broken one of our rules (profile picture, banner, nickname, bio, pronouns, or any other public-facing section), you will receive a time out until changes have been made.

Mods will not discuss moderation actions with third parties, but if you do have any questions or concerns please use our ModMail bot.

Chat Mods cannot act on content that occurred outside of the OSRS Official server, including issues with clans, DMs, in-game rule breaking or other Jagex or OSRS related servers.

We reserve the right to adjust or add to the rules listed here at any time, and if a situation not covered above occurs, our moderation team will act as the need requires.

Discord Bans - Can I appeal them?

If you find yourself banned from the OSRS Official Discord, you will receive a ModMail from our moderation team, via the ModMail bot - this will appear in your Discord DMs. This ban will automatically be in place for 90 days.

This message will include the specific rule you have broken and advise on the behaviour or activity that led to the ban. You can take this opportunity to ask for more details, or request it to be reconsidered. The moderation team as a group will then look into the reason for the ban and confirm whether it is accurate. This acts as your first appeal opportunity.

If your initial appeal is denied you will only be eligible to reappeal after the 90 days is complete.

To appeal your Discord ban if you're unable to access your initial ModMail, or after the 90 days) is complete, you can join the House of Appeals server and follow the steps there.

If you have received a ModMail message at any point after 30th of June 2025 stating you are permanently banned, you will not be eligible to appeal this ban through any means.
