Feels bad when someone messages you in game while you are ALT-tabbed, in other app or multitasking, and you missed. Many players are not even looking at the monitor, as they use wireless headphones while doing something.
So, a sound notification is good to have, keeps the social interaction active, and less questioning.
There should be an option in game settings to enable or disable the sound notification for private messages.
