Description:
It's been 5 years since The Crash. People thought the world leading to the crash was terrible, through worldwide economic collapse, superbugs created by overuse of antibiotics, and the increasing overreach and sheer access to data that the government and private corporations had. But no one was reading for The Blight, something so deadly it can't be classified into any known category. It moved faster, stronger, and was more resistant than any bacteria, virus, or fungi found.
At first, the infected were fast. They moved faster, carelessly, and seemingly felt no pain. Those they bit turned into them almost instantly. Just one of the fast ones could turn into 500 in 30 minutes. By the hour, it could be 5000. Cities fell before police or local officials even knew it. California had the worst of it, high populations and dense population spread. Most of Texas was lost, but the abundance of military bases meant many managed to hold, at least for a while.
After the dust settled, the government had managed to hold them back- well at least East of the Mississippi. west of that, and you had the enclaves , and a whole bunch of zombies. Areas still held by civilized (or not so civilized) states became known as the Recession. Australia, the UK, Italy, Thailand, Tibet. The last nations standing after the Crash. The Lost was the rest of it. The overrun areas, the ones that only 2 groups of people dared go in- Enclaves, and the Takers that resided in them. Enclaves are independent city-states run by people who saw opportunity in the crash. Instead of retreating East to the Recession, they fortified and held what they could. It could be an old military base, an easily defendable mountain outpost, or what was left of a city, but it was theirs. Takers are the entrepreneurial mercenaries who go out into the Loss to retrieve supplies, weapons, information, and pre-crash documents to whoever the client was.
But I'm getting ahead of myself
You're a taker. You saw the opportunity in this mess to make some money, to "get out" as it were by doing what no one else wanted. Whether its retrieving a stash of weapons or medical supplies for an Enclave willing to pay top dollar, or some basically worthless old documents for a black market fence in the Recession who would then trade them in to the government for their own little profit, you do the job.
So what will it be? Stay just another survivor in a broken world, or make yourself into something better?
Just remember, the biggest threat waiting to get you isn't the undead... not by a long shot.
