At the moment VTOL cities are the only things that generate light at night, I assume with an emission texture that switches over at a certain time, this leads to blobs of light in the dark with no connections.
I think having the option for perhaps just motorways to be lit up would bring something visually interesting for maps at night and create a grounding sense of immersion to see the connections between the cities rather than just the blobs of city lights on the ground
