I'm currently working on his backstory, but most of it is that he was always befouled by misfortune after misfortune, and since he lived in a coastal area, sympathized more and more with those restless spirits who died at sea

Usually mindless scribbling can help because it gets your brain thinking

Playing the line game can be a way to get your hand moving and brain going as well to get you in a creative mindset
Draw a bigger picture one line at a time. Once your hand stops you have to make a new line and go from there

Setting a “creative challenge” by limiting yourself to a few colors or a certain tool set only and having to make something from that is another method

#

One that helps me the most in listening to music and having a lyric catch my ear that I want to convey a piece for. Especially helpful if you have OCs to do this with

Notice your breath, exhale slowly thru mouth (that slows your heart down), feel your feet on the floor, look around and notice things around you - colors, objects, smells, etc. Try patting or rubbing your body gently. These things help you be in the present moment and to know that you are safe. Hope that helps a bit.

Also: if you know what sparked the anxiety, set yourself in another context. Like if you were just planning things ahead, even if it didn't cause direct stress, separate your mind competely from those things until you've calmed down (and then some).
