#

Thanks for the bubble wrap btw now i have a way to annoy my mom..XD

wraith narwhal
#

no problem... XD
this was my first time sending package somewhere else than Poland
I was bit worried it won't make it... XD

solid grove
#

actually it was a good idea...
the more fragile a package is, the less care the postal employees handle them with .-.

wraith narwhal
#

I also paid a bit extra for quicker deliver
So he got the planter even before his birthday

solid grove
toxic sedge
#

me at the new job i offered myself up for tbh

solid grove
#

Just fire him, already

toxic sedge
#

i have jello hands..XD

#

i hope i never ever get any of your packages

solid grove
#

x)

#

I mean it's not that expensive

#

remembers when he bought a Makise Kurisu figurine for 100$ when you can find it online for 35$

#

ugh...

pearl fern
#

Not even noon on Ash Wednesday and I’m already a bit lightheaded 😅

wraith narwhal
#

I thought I'm the only one that has to participate in it

pearl fern
#

Hah, nope, you’re not alone

#

I won’t get to eat dinner until after Mass tonight

#

Which means sometime around 7:30 (19:30) probably, because the 5:30 (17:30) Mass will be packed (and I’ll get more of a smudge than a cross

#

Good news though, I finally took all my old palm leaves for the ashes

wraith narwhal
#

me and my family has a lot of old palms
even one of them is small, like for children

pearl fern
#

I don’t even know where they get the palm leaves from

#

They just show up

wraith narwhal
#

ah, well... who knows c:

pearl fern
#

Probably my bishop 🤣

#

What I don’t know is how to make them into crosses… I suck at crafts

#

Have a question about doctrine, history, dogma? I can have that conversation. Need arts and crafts? I can only follow directions

wraith narwhal
#

I always had this thing in my head about drinking holy water and that it possibly tastes disgusting
meanwhile, it's just water with little bit of salt
My mind is sometimes crazy :')

pearl fern
#

I think the bishops make it em masse yearly with the chrism and other oils :’) I’ve never been to see that, but I’ve been invited

#

I’m lucky, I live fairly close to the cathedral

solid grove
#

... tf is ash Wednesday ?

wraith narwhal
#

...oh jeez, it's bit hard to explain in my vision

pearl fern
#

@wraith narwhal allow me :)

solid grove
#

oh god

pearl fern
#

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and penance that starts the Catholic liturgical season of Lent, the 40* days preceding Easter where we prepare ourselves for the greatest feast day of the year and the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection

*On the calendar it looks like 46, but Sundays are not counted during Lent because each Mass is a celebration of Easter, in laymen’s terms.

solid grove
#

could you use MORE laymen's terms, please ?

#

bc I don't know shit about catholic church

#

if it's not directly in the Bible, you can be pretty sure I have no idea what it is

#

And since 80% of the catholic church is based on things that have nothing to do with the Bible...

pearl fern
#

Okay, then ask more specific questions please

solid grove
#

what do you do on ash wednesday ?

pearl fern
#

Also, again I will refer you to the Catechism, which contains all the references to Scripture for our beliefs.

sturdy oracle
#

They put an ash cross on your head

#

And you decide what to give up for lent

pearl fern
#
  1. Fasting, defined as no more than 1 whole meal and two smaller portions which together are less than a whole meal
#
  1. abstinence from meat, which continues on all Fridays of Lent (technically throughout the year but in America the Bishops have given a dispensation for the rest of the year)
solid grove
#

I only attended like 5 classes of catechism because my school made me do it, but when they forced me to recite Ave Maria (that I didn't even know existed until then) in front of a statue, my parents arranged a way to get me out of there since I go to church

pearl fern
#
  1. Mass, where we are marked with ashes to begin the journey through Lent, akin to the 40 years’ wandering and the 40 days’ temptation of Jesus, where we improve ourselves by giving up bad behaviors or turning to good behaviors.
solid grove
#

And... what exactly does all that accomplishes ?...

pearl fern
#

To be a better Christian?

#

Self-denial is one of the oldest practices to become closer to Jesus

solid grove
#

why would stop eating, and being covered in ash make you a better christian ?...

pearl fern
#

Fasting is an ancient penance and devotional act, to master our bodies and think on our spiritual selves; the ashes symbolize mourning and solemnity. Being marked with the cross, we are admonished, “Repent and believe in the Gospel”

solid grove
#

Yeah but didn't Jesus already died for that ?...
You're basically making a tradition saying that his sacrifice wasn't enough ? .-.

pearl fern
#

No, we make a tradition of emphasizing our spiritual journey, reflecting on our failures and relapses, and working to imitate Him more in the period leading up to the celebration of His sacrifice, so that we are ourselves spiritually ready for that

#

Honestly my favorite times of the year is Triduum (the three days before Easter Sunday, which is one long Mass) and Christmas, because the process to the celebration is so rewarding

solid grove
#

Ok, so tradition for the sake of tradition...
good

#

well at least now I know

pearl fern
#

No, that is nothing like I’ve said

#

It’s a practice for spiritual growth

solid grove
#

I know but really, you don't need all of that if you're already a good christian
you're supposed to reflect on your life every day
making it a tradition diminishes its total value

pearl fern
#

Firstly, we can all be better Christians. C.S. Lewis makes an argument in Mere Christianity that’s summed up by a Catholic: “Be a saint, what else is there?” It isn’t enough to be good, or decent, if you aren’t perfect. Secondly, we live in time, therefore it is proper for us to teach, learn, and grow in time, which includes celebrations marked on the calendar, and celebrations require preparation and penance.

solid grove
#

but you can grow and better yourself everyday... and you should .-.

pearl fern
#

Tradition diminishes nothing, we emphasize our self-reflection in Lent. In Ordinary Time, we work on keeping our Lenten gains

solid grove
#

Did you see the movie Mother! ?

#

@pearl fern

#

If not, you should

#

Just telling you now, the whole second half is super violent

#

and a scene in the first half too

#

but you really should

pearl fern
#

I haven’t, heard it was crap from a theological perspective, like the latest Noah and Moses movies

solid grove
#

It's not TOTAL crap

#

I mean, sure, they depict God as a selfish asshole

pearl fern
#

I don’t mind weird, violent movies, but I take umbrage with Hollywood’s mentally crippled religious yammerings. Like Stigmata. Or The Da Vinci Code.

solid grove
#

but the rest of the theological analysis they give is actually pretty fair

#

And... I mean...

#

They directly attack christians

#

So I don't think Christian reviews are really the most reliable source out there

#

not very objective

#

still, you should at least give it a shot

#

They criticize the bad aspects of religion, and when you think of it, it's actually a pretty fair representation of the extremes some can fall into

#

and the extremes some actually did fall into and against whom we are actually struggling right now .-.

pearl fern
#

I’ll watch it eventually, with a bowl of salt to take it with. Hollywood criticizing religion is the man with a beam in his eye elaborating on the speck in his brother’s eye.

solid grove
#

Just don't get too attached to Jesus...
I think you can figure out why yourself

pearl fern
#

And one of the main issues is Hollywood perpetuating falsehoods about religion, like the “evil Inquisition” or the “evil Crusaders” or the nefarious Opus Dei or evil Catholics hiding Gospels

solid grove
#

Well they were pretty bad .-.

#

not down right evil

#

but far from saints

pearl fern
#

Actually the Inquisition was considered fairer than the secular courts, and the number of acquittals dwarfs convictions

#

The Crusades were an act of justified war in response to 4 centuries of Islamic aggressions that culminated in Seljuk Turks attacking pilgrims in defiance of the peace Christians had with the Arabs

#

Opus Dei is a very good organization for the faith

solid grove
#

I don't think the thousands of rapes and innocents killed were justified...

pearl fern
#

Dan Brown is an idiot and a terrible writer whose characters have less substance than paper dolls

#

And other “gospels” were rejected on theological grounds, most because they are Gnostic

#

Actions by some Crusaders doesn’t diminish the justness of the Crusades nor excuse the actions of the Muslims (Arabs and then the Turks)

solid grove
#

"some"

pearl fern
#

You’re also ignoring the rules of war of the period

solid grove
#

like they were 3

#

And you're ignoring that they were supposed to be Christians .-.

#

I don't think that God approves rape

pearl fern
#

He doesn’t, and it’s not excused, but the commonly accepted rules of war at the time were understood by all, and a city resisting siege knew the consequences of falling would be a lot of pissed off soldiers. Most of what happened after a successful siege is looting, which mainly was “What have you got? Okay, I’ll take that.”

solid grove
#

Yeah so you're basically saying that they didn't do anything wrong...

#

I'm pretty sure that the women of those cities had mostly nothing to do with the city resisting .-.

pearl fern
#

I’m saying they’re human too, and labeling the whole enterprise wrong because they weren’t perfect is a dishonest assessment

solid grove
#

"weren't perfect"

#

THAT is a dishonest assessment

pearl fern
#

I’m sorry, were they perfect and I missed something?

solid grove
#

No...

pearl fern
#

Then an argument about the moral status of a mass action or an endeavor based on some conduct that isn’t perfect is dishonest because it will always find them lacking

solid grove
#

But the way you say it, you make it sound like there were just small mistakes made by like 3 people total and anyway the victims deserved it
And THAT is dishonnest

pearl fern
#

That’s like saying the Allies were wrong in WWII because they weren’t always civil to POWs or used racist propaganda against their enemies

#

I said that the rules of war, and especially sieges, were brutal and well known at the time, and that cities who resisted knew the stakes as much as the besiegers. I am not discounting nor apologizing for the brutality of ancient warfare. I’m saying the modern assessment of the Crusades as religious zealotry and racist animosity is dishonest because it ignores the facts of the time and especially the aggressive expansion of Islam and its existential threat to Christian civilization at the time

solid grove
#

Just to clarify this...
You're saying that
the thousands of rapes made by Christians on innocent women that never asked for anything and probably didn't even want their city to resist
is "some conduct that isn't perfect"

#

I mean for God's sake, what do you call the Shoah, then ?

#

"an incident" ?

#

I'm fucking done

pearl fern
#

The Holocaust, like other Americans

solid grove
#

Don't play with words

pearl fern
#

I think it’s you who is engaging in a semantical play

#

I said the Crusades were acceptable under just war theory

#

I did not make apology for everything that happened. You want to paint it as “Crusaders are black hats because of X” without engaging the actual argument that the Crusades were justified

#

The only direction from there is essentially whataboutism, which isn’t the argument I made

solid grove
#

Oh I get that the act of sending a crusade was justified

#

but what happened after that was horrible

pearl fern
#

Not everything was

solid grove
#

Not everything, of course

#

And I never said the contrary

pearl fern
#

And, more to the point, the “Crusaders are black hats” is the dishonest portrayal I brought up regarding Hollywood

solid grove
#

but you make it sound like almost nothing was

pearl fern
#

With perhaps the exception of Kingdom of Heaven

#

Not for lack of trying

solid grove
#

I'm not saying that every crusaders did rape women

#

I'm saying that it happened, that it's horrifying, and that it's not as anecdotical as you try to make it sound

pearl fern
#

And I didn’t say it wasn’t wrong or that it was justified

solid grove
#

I'm not saying this either

#

but stop minimising it

pearl fern
#

I was pointing out that it’s not as germane to the question of the Crusades (particularly the first) themselves

solid maple
#

Guys

#

Take it to DM

solid grove
#

I knew that would happen

solid maple
#

Then why did you even keep talking about this here?

solid grove
#

Because I hate being alone with this guy x)

solid maple
#

Then ignore him or block him.

solid grove
pearl fern
#

.> If you hate me why do you ask questions

solid grove
#

I don't hate you

#

I hate being alone with you

#

because I feel alone even if I know I'm on the side of common sense x)

pearl fern
#

🤨

solid grove
#

I already have a hard time expressing myself but it's even worse when I feel alone in my thinking

#

that's why I hate 1v1 debates

pearl fern
#

Well I am not much use on that topic, I thrive in 1v1 debates

#

Mother said I should’ve been a lawyer…

solid grove
#

I'm more comfortable if there is at least a chance of someone seeing the debate

pearl fern
#

Um…

solid grove
#

it's just mental, don't think too hard about it

pearl fern
#

I was just thinking that Lucid saw it xD

solid grove
#

?

solid maple
#

RED, that is how this server works, and if you don't want to follow some simple rules, leave. I'm pretty lax on my moderation, but I've had to hand out warnings to you several times. I hate kicking or banning people, but next time you talk about taboo topics like Religion or Politics, I'll have to do just that. This serves for you too, Waldemar.

solid grove
#

I mean, having a very active catholic and a social activist in the same server, it's bound to happen .-.

#

But I can try

sweet zodiac
#

just bring it to DMs i imagine

pearl fern
#

I’m gonna take it as a Lenten challenge.

sweet zodiac
#

i mean you guys are basically dming right now since it's just you two

solid grove
#

I already explained why I hate dm

pearl fern
#

Then make a server and invite others to lurk?

solid grove
#

hn...

#

Then I would have to invite people I disagree with on it

toxic sedge
#

that happens

#

not everyone is supposed to agree with you

solid grove
#

because otherwise it'd just be me and a self-agreeing community on the server

#

and it'd be toxic for the debate

#

Talking with SJW, I know how it works

#

And it's just awful and frustrating

#

Yeah, I'll make a new server for this

pearl fern
#

I wonder if anyone would notice if I took a little nap at my desk …

toxic sedge
#

if you fell asleep on your keyboard possibly lol

pearl fern
#

But if I slept upright, “looking” at my screens…

toxic sedge
#

oh well if you can i would be amazed

solid grove
#

you'd fall eventually

pearl fern
#

I just yawned so hard that the floor of my mouth clenched 😶

toxic sedge
#

I once lost my front tooth when i fell asleep while holding a shovel i slept for a good 6 seconds

#

before i landed face first on the shovel.

pearl fern
#

Ouch

toxic sedge
#

after that i got a fake tooth so yay.

sweet zodiac
#

@pearl fern oh god your jaw clenching when yawning hard is horrible

#

when that first happened to me i thought i dislocated something

#

it felt like i did too

#

that is if i'm thinking of the same thing you are

#

from then on i learned you can stop your jaw clenching during a really deep yawn by putting force on the bottom

pearl fern
#

@sweet zodiac It was inside my jaw, under my tongue

sweet zodiac
#

behind your chin

#

yeah

pearl fern
#

On the left side though, not the right

#

Usually it’s my neck that gets clenched and sore from a too strong yawn

wraith narwhal
#

I once hit my front tooth on windowsill
of course, tooth did crush a bit, and it hurts whenever I eat something sweet
but you can't much see it, due it was just more "flattened and sharpened"

#

Speaks person, who adds three teaspoons of sugar to tea/coffee

pearl fern
#

I’m wondering if black coffee isn’t making me feel sleepier right now

wraith narwhal
#

for now, I stopped drinking coffee
not because I don't want to, but I got to ask my dentist if it's okay for me to do so
I already got over cola addiction (which I'm glad)

pearl fern
#

I stopped drinking soda a long time ago, no regrets

wraith narwhal
#

now whenever I drink it, I can feel it's like... sugary water

pearl fern
#

Yeah it’s way too sweet, and I only like root beer and ginger ale

#

And orange soda

#

But usually I drink sweet tea

wraith narwhal
#

I wanted to drink green tea, but it was wayy too bitter for me
but mostly, I drink flavored water, tea, sometimes orange juice

pearl fern
#

Iced green tea with some citrus is nice

toxic sedge
#

oh yes

#

that i can agree with

pearl fern
#

I plan to make a lot of sun tea this summer

wraith narwhal
#

oh yess...
or lemonade with fresh mint leaves

solid grove
#

Green tea is only good when you add sugar

pearl fern
#

Ew, no mint in mine

#

Lavender

#

Everyone has suddenly discovered lavender

#

I prefer honey with my tea

solid grove
#

And don't you dare adding milk except for English tea

pearl fern
#

I’d kill for a London fog right now

wraith narwhal
#

I like ginger root in my tea, whenever my throat is sore

pearl fern
#

I just reach for the hot toddy

solid grove
#

Personally my favourite is Japanese sencha with Canadian maple syrup

wraith narwhal
#

helps me out to cure it faster
but sometimes I swallow piece of ginger, and my throat is then burning a little bit

solid grove
#

I have pretty much an infinite amount of maple syrup, so I might as well use it

pearl fern
#

I wish I had maple syrup on tap :(

#

Honey and maple syrup are so expensive compared to sugar

solid grove
#

I'm in Canada

pearl fern
#

@solid grove let’s build a syrup pipeline down the Ol’ Mississip

solid grove
#

x)

#

I'm not sure about that, eh

pearl fern
#

It’ll be great

#

Everyone loves maple syrup

#

And everyone should have maple butter

solid grove
#

how much, eh ?

pearl fern
#

A gallon a quarter?

solid grove
#

I'm sorry, I was talking about the price

wraith narwhal
#

I just learnt that I'm person who can be easily addicted to someone or something

pearl fern
#

@solid grove let’s tag it to the price of gasoline

solid grove
#

hnnnnn fair enough

#

(It's actually pretty close)

pearl fern
#

I’d pay $2.15/gal for grade B

solid grove
#

WAIT A MINUTE

#

I was wrong

#

maple syrup is actually 10 times more expensive than gasoil XD

#

about 1,10$/L vs 10,56$/L

#

Wow, those forests actually are worth a LOT

pearl fern
#

… stupid cheap fuel

solid grove
#

x)

#

I'm really sorry, friend

#

I don't set the prices

#

no hard feelings, eh ?

pearl fern
#

I’m just gonna go plant my own sugar maple forest and tap the sh!t out of it

solid grove
#

Sorry again

pearl fern
#

Or I could go demand tribute from Vermont

#

That’s probably easier

solid grove
#

I'll stop with the stereotypes, I'm not even citizen

pearl fern
#

Feel free to make fun of Vermonters :)

#

I won’t be offended

solid grove
#

x)

pearl fern
#

I’m not a Yankee so

#

No worries

solid grove
#

nyeh ?

pearl fern
#

Hmm?

solid grove
#

I'm not really familiar with American geopolitic

pearl fern
#

I live south of the Mason-Dixon Line, ergo I am not a Yankee Northerner

solid grove
#

uhuh...

#

again, no idea about whatever there could be between southerners and northerners of that line

#

but ok I guess

pearl fern
#

Cultural differences that sometimes seem as big as between Quebec and Ontario

solid grove
#

I'm not Canadian, so I don't even know what difference there is between them x)

pearl fern
#

Germany and France?

solid grove
#

I'm not even north american

pearl fern
#

Scotland and England?

solid grove
#

Yeah, ok, that's a bit more clear

#

A bit

#

I'm more of an African than anything else

#

x)

pearl fern
#

.>

solid grove
#

My life is weird

pearl fern
#

Like, sub-Saharan or North Africa?

solid grove
#

Like Madagascar

pearl fern
#

That’s an island!

solid grove
#

An African Island

pearl fern
#

🤔

#

They do have delicious vanilla

solid grove
#

It's as much Africa as Corsica is France or Northern Ireland is UK

pearl fern
#

Yeah but Corsica is strange

#

It’s like the Sicily of France

#

Fricily

solid grove
#

Yeah

#

Anyway

#

I grew up there so I have basically no connection to occidental social standards

pearl fern
#

Ah okay

solid grove
#

which explains why I act weirdly sometimes

pearl fern
#

Well, many cartoonists have attempted to describe it, to varying degrees of success

#

It’s a source of humor

solid grove
#

But this disconnection is pretty great because I have a more objective view of all this

#

And I basically base my social standards on common sense

#

which works most of the time......

#

most of the time

#

And it gets pretty hard to understand people that are deeply rooted in beliefs that just cycles in the same type of mindset, like religions or social minorities for exemple

#

But I guess you already saw that

#

I have nothing against the basics of religion because it's mostly a "don't be a dick" message

#

but it can get weird and extreme...

#

not gonna venture too close to that border, I wouldn't want to get banned...

pearl fern
#

Social structures though aren’t necessarily common sensical, but rather traditional, so one would have to examine tradition to evaluate the results. For example, it seems odd to outsiders that people in more southern States eat pork chops for breakfast, but it’s born (borne?) out of a tradition based on the agrarian background and availability of pork compared to beef

#

Which really makes me want some smoked pork chops

solid grove
#

that's really anecdotical

pearl fern
#

We could also look at the dispute over whether Devonshire cream goes on top or underneath the jam on a scone. That’s a regional cultural difference and rivalry in England

solid grove
#

but traditions are (kinda) beliefs that cycle through the same type of mindsets
so as I said, I have some trouble understanding them

#

but what I understand is that traditions is part of a culture and history, and that people want to preserve that

#

Again, you're using pretty anecdotical examples that I personally don't care about...
just eat the damn thing already x)

#

(see ? common sense)

pearl fern
#

But as you noted, people like preserving culture and tradition, even when it seems odd to moderns

#

Besides, you have no idea how hard it is to find smoked pork chops in Illinois 🤣🤣🤣

#

Like Ground Hog Day, kinda dumb but it’s fun to let a rodent prognosticate Spring

solid grove
#

wtf ?

pearl fern
#

February 2nd is Ground Hog Day 🙃

#

When we let a groundhog (aka woodchuck) decide when spring will start

solid grove
#

huh

pearl fern
#

I think it’s based on an old Indian legend

solid grove
#

I mean I guess animals know better than humans

pearl fern
#

He always sees his shadow

#

So we always get “six more weeks of winter”

#

I mean, it’s about 7 weeks between Ground Hog Day and the vernal equinox

#

And here where I live you can expect the seasons to actually change right around the equinox or solstice

#

Winter - almost exactly December 21 to March 21

toxic sedge

Darkest Dungeon what was made me sometimes angry
mostly bcs when one of your character dies, you can't get them, unless there is event where you can revive them (It has like 0.02% of appearing, or so I heard?)
but if you have a lot of good leveled characters? it sucks which to chose, when you have option to pick one of the three that were picked randomly from the graveyard

#

plus the stress thing... gosh, that was pain when you wish they were heroic for that one moment
but no, they become paranoic and other stuff, that you need to bear with
aka. they stress out others with whatever they say, they can hurt teammates etc. etc.

pearl fern
#

Yessssssss I just negative split a run and dropped time on my splits

#

I’m definitely making cookies for that

toxic sedge
#

anyways like i was saying , ye not everyone has to be gay or any other sexuality.

#

But if people wanna make it well..sadly you cant stop them just tolerate it

solid grove
#

I know I know

toxic sedge
#

so you can state your opnion i dont mind that

pearl fern
#

Story over politics

quiet dew
#

i mean, Lauras sexuality was barely to never talked about
she did have a relationship with bob, but was clearly unhappy with it, so she could very well be bi or an in-closet lesbian
it doesn't matter for the story, but fan arts and fan fiction are there to let people explore the non-canon stuff

toxic sedge
#

just dont be a jerk about it

solid grove
#

but for exemple... Steven Universe...
That's VERY VERY VERY UNrepresentative of actual LGBT population

#

There are like 2 heterosexual couples

#

and I think one of them is bi x)

pearl fern
#

As regards Laura, Occam’s razor indicates she’s unhappy for ordinary reasons, not because she’s not heterosexual

solid grove
#

Anyway, I can't say anything against SU because it's the perfect animated series and there is nothing bad about it

#

And I never watched it

toxic sedge
#

ehhh i dont like it tbh but hey if you like it thats cool mate

solid grove
#

No, I'm just criticizing the fanbase

toxic sedge
#

oh yeah that ..

#

ugh

quiet dew
#

samuel/ida
dales parents
mary/james
implied (but not confirmed) rose/frank
bob/laura

are all hetero in RL
so one lgbt couple wouldn't exactly "ruin the balance"

toxic sedge
#

they have done some..bad stuff..

wraith narwhal
#

The SU fanbase can be pretty toxic...

toxic sedge
#

uhh the Rose n Frank ship..

solid grove
#

As I said, we already have Harvey, so XD

toxic sedge
#

no offense... when i say this..

pearl fern
#

Any fan base can be toxic

toxic sedge
#

but ugh..isnt that like..

#

you know..

pearl fern
#

And animated stuff… that’s just it’s own microcosm of weird avenues

solid grove
#

We don't NEED more
we could have more, but we don't NEED it

quiet dew
#

well harvey alone wouldn't make a couple

wraith narwhal
#

true, but SU Fanbase on Tumblr? jeez

pearl fern
#

Harvey is a parrot, probably misnamed

solid grove

#

Tumblr in general

pearl fern
#

@wraith narwhal Tumblr: ‘nuff said

#

OH DEAR GOD GUYS

#

I AM ALMOST OUT OF COCOA

solid grove
#

just... r/TumblrInAction
I don't have to say any more

wraith narwhal
#

Tumblr at one point was fun, but I quickly forgot about it
reason? it was too hard for me to handle things there, plus stuff going on there? yikes

toxic sedge
#

To be honest, i think it would be okayish to have a lgbt character in rl..but..ehhh i guess considering the era rl takes place in

pearl fern
#

Does anyone even do anything original on Tumblr?

toxic sedge
#

i kinda dont see it happening?

pearl fern
#

I’ve only looked at stuff linked to me but it all seems super derivative.

solid grove
#

Well, there was furry porn..... untill they banned 18+ content...

wraith narwhal
#

you make character white? they might call you racist
you make character thin? they might call that you don't accept fat people and so on

toxic sedge
#

tbh tumblr is a tar pit lol

solid grove
#

and now there are genderbend colorbend sexualitybend versions of JoJo characters
I AM NOT MAKING THAT SHIT UP

toxic sedge
#

its rare to find someone sane

pearl fern
#

Tumblr is some kind of black hole, except for rationality

solid grove
#

I already saw a black lesbian girl version of a JoJo character there...

#

That was....... something...

#

And of course, all the "OMG QUEEEEEEEN" that came with it

toxic sedge
#

but then again..

#

every website has "that side"

solid grove
#

sure

pearl fern
#

I think this is a broader social issue, though, where balance and perspective is lacking in many storylines and characters

solid grove
#

but some are worse than others

wraith narwhal
#

The reasons I only come to Tumblr is for aesthetic images and/or Sims4 mods

#

nothing more

solid grove
#

If you're looking for insane people, just go to Tumblr and Twitter
You'll find them by plenty

pearl fern

Twitter is full of trolls

solid grove

also

pearl fern

My friend wrote a great article about Twitter, and applies to Tumblr too, if anyone would like the link DMed.

solid grove

but there is also a really big insane people nest

#

Just type "cishet" in the search bar and you'll fall into insanity

pearl fern
#

“Cishet” sounds like a rejected Egyptian God Card 🤣🤣🤣

solid grove
#

Or "ACAB"

#

It kinda does XD

#

Do you know what it means, or ?

pearl fern
#

I’m guessing it’s a neologistic abbreviation of cis-heterosexual

#

Or heteronormative

solid grove
#

yeah, that's it

#

most of the time, it's followed by "white male" somewhere in the same sentence

pearl fern
#

Ah, the good ol’ modern day bogeyman, the Straight White Male

solid grove
#

I both love and hate this song because I can't know if he's making fun of the actual SWM that say stupid shit, or the SJW that sound like everyone says those things

quiet dew
#

may I ask how German sounds to non German speakers?
Appearantly we sound very aggressive😅

wraith narwhal
#

I'm learning German at school, idk if it's gonna be good enough
It is hard language, not as in hard to learn but as it has hard pronounced words
it can sound aggressive sometimes, but most of the cases I heard - it isn't

old lance
#

Well, I'm going to explain Brazil's stereotype of Germany, basically, Brazilians think that you talk in a speech (as Hitler did) is you speak German, logically, not everyone thinks, but when they ask to imitate a German, they do it

quiet dew
#

haha I've been told that our words are unneccessary long and hard to pronounce xD

solid grove
#

Let's just say that whenever I hear a German guy shouting, the only thing I can hear is Nazi propaganda .-.

quiet dew
#

Omg tbh if we would all talk like Hitler on a speech we would sound ridiculous😅

#

Well I mean I am not German, but Austrian, but we do share the same language, so we sound like Nazi propaganda, too, probably🙈 😅

wraith narwhal
#

non-polish and non-russian speakers sometimes mix up those two languages, due to similar words

old lance
#

here in Brazil, when we wanna Laugh on internet we use KKKKKKKKKKK

wraith narwhal
#

or similar pronunciation

solid grove
#

or a very horrible and gruesome torture and death threat

#

x)

#

but what do I know
it's maybe just my genetic memory telling me to surrender

quiet dew

here in Brazil it is also common to use Huehuehue as a laugh

#

HAIANAN

solid grove
#

Oh god, just reading this, I feel threatened .-.

quiet dew
#

omg i love the huehuehue writing xD

#

I just literally told you to eat a chocolate cupcake xD

#

but still XD

old lance
#

Mit dem Übersetzer auf Deutsch zu sprechen ist keine gute Idee

#

x)

quiet dew
#

is this about corn

solid grove
#

what ?

quiet dew
#

Mais is german for corn xD

solid grove
#

ah

#

no, "maĂŻs" is corn

#

"mais" is but

old lance
#

Mais in brazil its "But"

quiet dew
#

woah i thought we germans were complicated for using Üßä

solid grove
#

we only use ¨ in like... 3 common words...

old lance
#

falar portugues em server americano nĂŁo ĂŠ uma boa ideia, mas mesmo assim eu falo

solid grove
#

maĂŻs, laĂŻque, caĂŻman, hawaĂŻen... and that's pretty much it
and even then, maĂŻs is the only one that actually is useful to differentiate the word, the rest of the time it's just a pronunciation indicator

quiet dew
#

ah i see
good to know some language trivia

#

we just kinda threw the dots on words we felt like they needed some sprinkles

solid grove
#

it's used so you say a-i, and not ai

old lance
#

maintenant, j'essaie de parler français, mais je pense que cela ne fonctionnera pas, car seul R.E.D comprendra

solid grove
#

x) Au moins c'est bien ĂŠcrit

#

A French person would never talk that way, though

#

it is correct

#

but not... uh... you know what I mean

old lance
#

We should do a chat on the discord.

#

yeah

solid grove
#

for exemple, you don't say cela, you say ça

#

nobody ever uses cela x)

#

too long

#

(and the nomber of people that can't even write it... it's horrifying)

#

it's the equivalent of your you're

#

JUST GET IT RIGHT

#

it's not that hard

old lance
#

here, the biggest problem is the pronunciation, the majority of Americans who come here have a terrible pronunciation

#

i know that its not they fault

#

but....you know

solid grove
#

yeah, but that's harder, especially when you're not native

quiet dew
#

in Austria, especially Vienna, we have a lot of young refugees who mostly struggle with German grammar
However they learn very quick and I am quite impressed how fast they adapt to our culture and language

solid grove
#

No, I was talking about native French, that can't differentiate "ça" and "sa", and think "ca" exist...

#

just fucking...

#

"ca" isn't even pronounced like the other two ! It's "ka" ! And it's not even a word !

old lance
#

Another problem is that in Brazil there are many Bad Words, after the regional changes are huge

quiet dew
#

Ah I see
We do have some people who use the word "wo" way too much and in a wrong way, especially when written down
And sometimes we forget to add a verb when talking, so eg. we say "Kann ich das Buch" (can I the book) instead of "Kann ich das Buch haben" (can I have the book)
Though it's worse in english because the verb is right in the middle of the sentence xD

solid grove
#

x)

#

but I think

#

the worst part of French

#

is that not only are there homophones

#

there are homophones

#

that are also homo... uh...

#

they're written the same

old lance
#

here we have problems with the word "E", it would be a substitute for the word "and" let's say, when someone speaks for example: eu gosto desse livro e eu amei ele e etc (i like that book and i love it and etc ...)

solid grove
#

like for exemple the word "pièce"

#

it has like... 4 meanings

#

1 writing

#

and 1 pronunciation

old lance
#

an ordinary Brazilian uses it a lot, but the Americans do not use it, it's half-robotic

quiet dew
#

some german nouns are just are a short description of what they do plus "thing" added afterwards
eg. aeroplane - Flugzeug ("flying thing")

solid grove
#

XD

old lance
#

this channel is very random ... we're arguing about language in Rusty Lake's discord hahaha

solid grove
#

"Yeah, darling, don't forget that I'll take the driving thing to go to the flying thing's station. I'll hang out the calling thing now. Bye"

quiet dew
#

driving thing is actually correct xD

solid grove
#

Oh god XD

quiet dew
#

though we usually say "Auto" if we mean "car"
"Fahrzeug" is a term to describe any vehicle

solid grove
#

Has a Volkswagen ad flash back

#

though, shouldn't it be Volksfahrzeug ?

#

it's kinda confusing

old lance
#

أنا أحب أنيمي

quiet dew
#

"Wagen" is an alternative word for car or trailer

solid grove
#

huh

#

so many words

old lance
#

Wagen Thing

#

Volkswagen thing

solid grove
#

x)

#

the people's car-thing XD

old lance
#

Lago enferrujado<---Rusty Lake in Portuguese

quiet dew
#

yes we tend to have more than one word just in case

#

also we have a few words that need more than one word in english to describe their meaning, because there is no english word for it

old lance
#

in Brazil too @quiet dew

quiet dew
#

😄

solid grove
#

I mean, don't get me wrong, French has a hundred synonymy for the same word, but they all have a slightly different definition, description and feeling about said word

quiet dew
#

"Rostiger See" Rusty Lake in german

solid grove
#

Lac RouillĂŠ

#

x)

old lance
#

lago enferrujado

solid grove

let's face it, everything is better in english when you're not a native

old lance
#

I agree

quiet dew
#

but who doesnt like ye good ol' Kraftfahrzeug-Haftpflichtversicherung

old lance
#

Barbecue in portuguese is CHURRASCO

solid grove
#

but blah blah blah, conserving the culture is so important for some countries that we have to make the same thing better, and just fail miserably, proving the exact opposite of what we were trying to do

toxic sedge

solid grove

Ida is a gipsy

toxic sedge

Ida-East

quiet dew

all the roots names acutally exist in german, too, though mary would be changed to marie, rose to rosa and james actually shares the german translation with jacob, jakob

toxic sedge
#

Jakob is spelled as Jakub here

quiet dew
#

oh yes and william would be Wilhelm

solid grove
#

Jakob... uh... I think would be... Jacobe ?

I'm definitely not sure about that

James would be Jean, I guess...

toxic sedge

old lance

#

well vegans are

#

and not all of them may i mind you just some

#

they can be a little annoying with their messages..

solid grove
#

yeah, no, that's a SJW problem

old lance
#

I just find it funny, but I do not even necessarily support it.

solid grove
#

not a vegan problem

old lance
#

the problem is the vegans who post pictures of dead animals and post in instagram

solid grove
#

you don't support it, yet you spread the news .-.
I call that support, personally

toxic sedge
#

oh yeah those people are annoying i mean i understand if they didn't kill the animal for food

solid grove
#

the real paradox is vegans and carnists kill roughly the same number of animals as long as they don't specifically eat organic

toxic sedge
#

I heard a vegan once made their cat eat a vegan diet

#

like why would you do that?

solid grove
#

because 3 cows don't count for much when you take into consideration the litteral billions of insects

#

@toxic sedge
A zoologist tried to make a lion vegan

#

and when they showed it to a reporter

toxic sedge
#

i wouldn't call that person a zoologist then

old lance
#

I spread what's going to happen, and I do not know if anyone's really going to do it, I interpreted it as a meme

solid grove
#

they put a bowl of vegetables and a bowl of meat to show it was vegan

#

the lion chose the meat

#

x)

toxic sedge
#

ugh thats disgusting..

#

that poor lion

solid grove
#

I mean

#

it's technically possible

#

and still considered healthy

old lance
#

I just do not like vegans that force the rest of the world to be

solid grove
#

but... that's not natural

toxic sedge
#

tbh nobody likes that

solid grove
#

And when I say zoologist, I'm only talking about their diploma, and not their actual understanding of animals

#

x)

toxic sedge
#

Yeah but if they have a diploma they should know about what to do and what not to do

solid grove
#

most SJW have "sociology" diplomas, and yet they don't know how communication and society work

#

to be fair, most of the courses for those diplomas are total bs

#

but still

solid grove
#

and Hemingway's fucked up biography as a bonus

#

That guy was a fucking LEGEND

toxic sedge
#

tbh i lowkey hope RL announces when the comic books out

#

i have some money from my bday left

pearl fern
#

@solid grove I will day that in my experience vegans have been more than a little pushy about their moral superiority. I think their philosophy is entirely incoherent but I don’t care if they want to unrealistically limit their diets. More honey and pork for me.

#

Also I’m pretty sure all felines are obligate carnivores so how one could healthily be “vegan” seems totally contradictory to that

quiet dew

laura showed up

toxic sedge

OOF

pearl fern
#

I love stories with unreliable narrators/protagonists

solid grove
#

Technically speaking, any and every animal on this planet could go vegan and survive without any health issues, with the right arrangement of peas, vegetables and so on
But it's just less trouble to eat meat, because you need a serious medical follow to avoid any lacking of nutriment in your food

pearl fern
#

I’m pretty sure “obligate” means they must consume animal protein

#

Canines are much more flexible

solid grove
#

animal proteins and vegetable proteins are exactly the same
where do you think herbivores take them from ? x)

pearl fern
#

And humans, while true omnivores, have never eaten vegan diets naturally. The idea is explicitly unnatural.

#

Hello, I’m a chemist, that statement is nonsense

#

Animal protein is quite different from plant protein

solid grove
#

I mean, there are a few rearagements to do, sure

pearl fern
#

.>

solid grove
#

but it's not a big deal for the body

#

it does it all the time

pearl fern
#

For cats, it is

#

It requires the proper bioproteins

#

We aren’t Lego sets

#

You can’t put diesel into a gas engine

solid grove
#

well we kinda are

#

but I guess they lack the right enzymes

#

I'm not saying I'm an expert

#

I'm not even vegetarian myself

#

I'm just talking about the stuff I know

pearl fern
#

I’m not a vegetarian, I still know why veganism is morally and scientifically obtuse

#

Hell some vegan tried to put his dog on a plant diet and nearly killed her of malnutrition

solid grove
#

well, forcing veganism to animals is really absurd
but humans CAN go vegan, and don't HAVE TO eat meat anymore, with modern technology and all this shit

#

so really, I don't see your moral stand on this

pearl fern
#

I would argue that veganism is ecologically irresponsible because it’s not a viable diet of locally sourced foods for anyone in temperate climes.

#

Also, animals lack rights because they have no responsibilities, and their moral weight is a purely human invention.

#

The lion doesn’t consider the wishes of the antelope.

solid grove
#

of course, we're talking about veganism for people that have access to the stuff needed to go vegan...
yeah, poor countries like Madagascar are kinda forced to kill zebus in the middle of the street to survive, and nobody is forcing them .-.

#

but if you can reliably find food from either your country or importation that can make up a vegan menu, then there is nothing holding you back from doing it other than your beliefs

pearl fern
#

I’m talking about vegans in Chicago: one cannot survive on food that grows in a 200mi radius, so food must be imported. Growing food for export across thousands of miles for weeks isn’t a better substitute for slaughtering local livestock.

solid grove
#

well...

#

it actually is

pearl fern
#

Mexico is expending enormous resources to grow avocados for Americans. It’s a severe problem in the Yucatán.

#

Strawberries and other fruits aren’t ripened on their plants, they’re ripened by gas artificially - and lack the same nutritional value.

solid grove
#

Cows alone produce more gaz in the atmosphere than every single car, truck, boat and plane in the entire world combined .-.

#

(not cows INDIVIDUALLY, of course)

pearl fern
#

Demand for out-of-season produce, especially with a majority vegan populace, is inarguably irresponsible.

#

The argument against cattle is vacuous: the same number of buffalo were in North America in the 1850’s and fulfill the same niche: cattle aren’t killing us. Should we replace our cattle with buffalo? Probably.

#

But the argument against livestock is absurd.

solid grove
#

and just having thousands of cows in hangars is more destructive for the environment than having off-season artificially ripped boat-imported strawberries .-.

pearl fern
#

They’re in there for a few weeks.

#

CAFOs are their own problem, but not a justification for eliminating our food source.

#

That’s like saying planes emit CO2, ergo ban flying except by blimp.

solid grove
#

it's not the hangar that is the problem, it's the cows themselves
and no, they DEFINITELY AREN'T
not for mass-producing farms that give 0 shit about the living meat's comfort

pearl fern
#

Methane is an insignificant factor of the atmosphere; so is CO2. Our climate isn’t changing because of cattle or engines.

#

Anyone who claims it’s us is selling you seafront property in Kansas.

solid grove
#

?

#

so what is it, then ?

pearl fern
#

Probably natural cycles from the Sun and our own planetary transit. We have been studying our climate for an insignificant amount of time compared to its timescale, with previous data being useful provided the assumptions about it are correct, and there’s too many assumptions.

#

The commonality of the eco-panic is massive government control and an anti-human stymying of human activity as though we are nature’s slaves and not her rightful master.

#

You want to sage African lives? Give them diesel electricity plants.

toxic sedge
#

@solid grove Suddenly disappearing? Shady..

pearl fern
#

Want to make America cleaner? Build nuclear plants.

solid grove
#

yes, but methane and CO2 clearly doesn't help .-.
And we are neither nature's slave or master
we're part of it, part of a cycle
except we take way more than we should, and it leads to a break in this cycle, creating mass destruction of our planet

pearl fern
#

I warrant they aren’t significant.

#

The planet’s temperature seems more dependent on solar cycles; the CO2 argument ignores evidence of accelerated plant growth in the presence of increased CO2. CO2 is far less of a greenhouse gas than water vapor, which variable daily. And the temp readings have been shown unreliable anyway. The “super hot” years weren’t significantly hotter, and there haven’t been more hurricanes or storms or anything. The sea levels may be rising but it takes so long for that to happen that we will react appropriately.

#

The major fallacy of environmentalism is the assumption that the planet is a steady-state, static system. It isn’t, and we don’t know its drivers. This planet has been changing around us the whole time, and we only just realized. Panicking about it isn’t productive.

solid grove
#

I you actually look at temperatures throughout the year recorded over decades, you clearly see that it rises overall .-.

pearl fern
#

I just pointed out that those data are unreliable. The ocean temp data was discovered to have been improperly collected by ships’ crews, and the land-based thermometers are a joke. Many are in asphalt parking lots, in direct sun, in inappropriate places which give much higher than actual readings.

solid grove
#

seems pretty reliable to me

toxic sedge
#

looks hot enough to deep fry your eggs.

pearl fern
#

I literally just explained why and you send a graph, not a counterargument of how the data is reliably collected.

#

So, with that, I’m done. If you are intractable, I have things to do.

solid grove
#

I think NASA is smarter than to put their thermometers directly under the sun, over hot concrete...

pearl fern
#

The thermometers weren’t placed by NASA, for one, and for another, never underestimate the power of stupidity.

#

We are a long way from the NASA that sent a man to the moon with slide rules.

solid grove
#

even then they wouldn't do this kind of error for 190 year...

#

and especially in the later 30 years

pearl fern
#

Yeah because nobody has been collecting data for 190 years, Sparky
