he tried to kill himself
emphasis on tried
and after the attempt, surely stoped by dale, it helped him to "open his mind to Dale"
quite literally in the modified version
I mean, he is accused of murder, and I think that he really was the killer
sooo
suicide attempt isn't all that farfetched
He is BOB, eager for fun. He wears a smile, everyone run
is this a reference ?
Mr Owl '' Welcome to the theatre of your mind''
So theatre takes place inside Dale's brain
Yeah, don't tell me you've never watched Twin Peaks?
nope... there are a lot of movies i never watched, actually
Oh it's a series... That's how bad my pop culture is...
Oh my
You mean you haven't seen the show that Rusty Lake is heavily heavily inspired by?
You must fix this immediately
It's about the death of the blonde woman
Named Laura
no only videos explaining the story of twin Peaks
ooh looks like I popped in at the perfect time
yeah I know
And the FBI agent who comes to investigate
Twin Peaks is great
Named Dale
@honest magnet have watched every single episode?
TWIN PEAKS
btw in season 3 there was a black cube was that a thing before season 3?
Nope
"Creators of the praised Cube Escape series and the premium point-and-click adventures Rusty Lake Hotel and award-winning Rusty Lake: Roots. Rusty Lake is an indie game studio, based in Amsterdam. Since spring 2015 we develop surrealistic adventure games that take place in the Rusty Lake universe. The studio consists of two people: Robin and Maarten. Inspired by the humor and uneasiness of David Lynch's TV series Twin Peaks we decided to create our own imaginative world called Rusty Lake."
so Twin Peaks is copying RL
No š
clearly Lynch ripped off Rusty Lake
I'd be shocked if Lynch had ever heard of Rusty Lake
lol
He barely seems to understand how Twitter works
The owls are not what they seem
I have just googled twin peaks
Rusty Lake did not pop up š
yeah I know that 's from TP
And even if he does know about it, it would be an homage
Much like everything Rusty Lake does that references Twin Peaks is an homage, and not a "copy" š
I also think that Cube Escape Theater may have been lightly influenced by the Club Silencio scene in Mulholland Drive
Siiiiiiiilencio
So bc you two know a lot about TP
what can you tell us about the RL storyline?
like who killed Laura?
Oh basically nothing. They were inspired by the feel of Twin Peaks but they created their own world
Though in Twin Peaks Laura was killed by BOB who is a spirit that inhabits people
Also in season 3 it shows that Laura is alive
Which happens in Season too
Getting into any more would be spoilers, I'm afraid
I don't I will ever sit down and watch every episode
Comes back from a summary of twin peaks S1&2
"The owls are not what they seem"
Huh... sounds familiar .-.
It's not for everyone, but hopefully/possibly some people here will
oh ok i understand
Considering the impact the tv show had both on the world at large and the creators of Rusty Lake in particular I think they would prefer if I didn't ruin the experience of the show for anyone who hasn't had the chance to see it yet
yes I agree
But suffice it to say they were inspired by the feeling and tone of the show, and put references throughout their games, but they don't seem to be taking story elements by any means
@copper hawk are you still here?
yup
Love love love these games!
I have to ask though, is the name Rusty Lake (and surrealistic nature of the lake) an homage to the Red Lodge? š
It's a... an interesting question, and I have my own theory on what lake the Lake was inspired of, but sadly, when I asked them...
So, I guess... Maybe ?... But don't count on it
Ah, I thought maybe it was because it is the same initial and rust has a lot of red in it - but fair enough!
Fun fact, there are actually a couple of Rusty Lakes in Canada, we have too many lakes and not enough names
I found a lake named Rusty Lake with the exact same map (rotated 180°) down to the placement of mountains, hills and forests, and they denied it, so... Meh...
Oh, shoot, I had it wrong, it's actually the black lodge and the red room facepalm
However, another fun fact, there is also a Twin Peaks inspired"Black Lodge" in Canada
http://www.blacklodgerestaurant.com/#welcome-1
TWIN PEAKS
Yes, black and white lodges
And a red room
And yes Rusty Lake is a very big homage to Twin Peaks
black and white, you say ?
Yes
like the giant cube at the bottom of the Lake ?
Not exactly, the Lodges in TP are much bigger and more like planes of existence
huh
I mean the bottom of the Lake is a plane of existence of it's own, let's be honnest here
Also the corrupted souls speak the way people do in the red room, which is why I thought the lake could be an homage to the room
Sort of
Well yes, they were heavily inspired by Rusty Lake
And that backwards-like talking is most likely inspired by that
Well that and there's an investigator in both Twin Peaks and Rusty Lake, both named dale.
We still havenāt had a small dancing person, we need that at some point
Oh thereās tons of references
Girl who dies is named Laura
āThe Owls are not what they seemā
Someone named Bob is involved
And in both case, it's the killer possessed
Heh
Wat ? XD
Bob sells shoes and boots and keeps stock with him on his travels.
Oh, did I mix that up?
Heheh
There are also references to a few other surreal things, I've noticed
Like this Renee Margritte painting
Or the whole cult with human and animal masks...
Just saying...
Oh, well. That's kinda cool.
I'm not sure if this is a commonly known painting or not, I just had the feeling it was some kind of reference and googled fish with legs painting lol
Magritte is a well known painter... But he's not famous for this one .-.
Is it a stretch to say it's linked ?
I mean, it's also a Magritte
Ok, THIS is literally Harvey's box (still a Magritte)
Non interesting fact: Magritte is from Belgium...kinda close to Amsterdam...
Well, now I have to find out how the hell does TWO PAINTERS fit in this story
THANK YOU
xD
It's interesting, because all of those paintings are not the ones he is famous for
Itās possible they just find the work inspiring , just like how Van Gogh is from Amsterdam
So this is kind of a letdown for me. Harvey's box is my favorite one, and it's not particularly original.
Well shit
(āÆĀ°ā”°ļ¼āÆļøµ ā»āā»
Broken door with a tree outside...
Birthday ?... Or am I going too far ?..
Nope, if you can keep going, please do.
He has an obsession with 5 objects
And those would be?
How do you say it in your language?
I think thatās just a pipe
oh ok
Like the kind you smoke
Yeah, we call that a pipe too
Pipes, apples, glasses of wine, and more interestingly, fishes and birds
Oh, like the treachery of images?
Yes
He also likes men in trench coats and bowler hats, often with one of those things blocking their faces if I remember correctly
And the whole idea of "is what is shown really there ?"
Mostly by blocking a portrait with an object or landscape with the painting of what is blocked. You don't know for sure if what is drawn on the painting really is behind it.
Yeah
And also naked women
lots and lots of naked women
Huh, that's a cool painting .-.
I'm not really finding much more...
except maybe this where it's from a cave, but... That's a pretty lose connection...
Woah, I spoke too soon
Legged fishes on the right
It's not the original painting, it's a montage, but still
Out of all the birds he paints...
the most of them are pigeons, crows, and owls
CUBES !!!
Ah, found the original
The shapes in this one are the same than the mini matching game of the alchemists in The Cave
Thinking it over, it seems like the Cube Escape games make a lot more of these visual references while the premium games mostly stick to their own imagery
But I'm just going off memory
So I donāt know if this has already been mentioned or not, but hereās the Rusty Lake people mentioning the game Paradox as āthe second chapterā
So thatās something
Yeah, the second chapter of Paradox...
Which means that "Mr. Owls office" is just chapter 1, just like Spring 1968 in Seasons or Investigation in Case 23.
And there's a second chapter somewhere (probably 4, considering we always have 4 chapters, in the Cube Escapes)
Now, I have a hard time understanding how they would sell the game in different chapters .-.
Or... Maybe chapter 1 is the film ?
Idk, I'm just throwing out ideas, and see what sticks
I was thinking chapter 1 is the film š
i think thy have mentioned that there will be two levels in the game
one that is free and one that you have to pay to play
Huh .-.
Interesting
Ah yes, yeah thatās it
I completely forgot about that bit
And of course the game and the movie presumably represent the ātwo different universesā the detective needs to escape
Maybe someone mentioned this before, but another thing I noticed. In Paradise the first thing you do with your father is bring him blood to drink. In Hotel, the first thing Mr. Deer asks for is a bloody Mary. Then in Roots the first thing you feed Albert is red wine.
And we know Nicholas and Mr. Deer are the same...
And Albert somehow inherits Mr. Deer's deer skull (not his own skull, the one in his room)
And you give Bob a Bloody Mary and all sorts of cocktails in Theatre and this connexions are getting weird...
Come to think about it, how did Bob get to the theater anyway?
The theatre is a memory of Dale interviewing Bob because he was accused of the murder, but at that point the lake already messed up quite badly with his mind, so...
Yeah, I think that Mr. Crow, Mr. Owl and Mrs. Pheasant weren't actually in the theatre...
I'm not sure I 100% agree with his memory being messed up, but maybe while he was in that room at the bottom of the lake he was thinking about or dreaming about interviewing Bob.
I'm not sure, I think it's based on a memory of the interview while at a theatre bar
Because we know it's a memory, we enter a cube just like in birthday or Seasons that call them just that... memories
Oh, what do you suppose the memories from the lake were the theater acts? The act with Harvey might be Laura thinking, like she has to remember to feed him.
Yeah, I had to double check, but I see now that he's already ascending at the beginning of the game.
Let's se...
First act is Mr. Pheasant's memory, trying to balance her past life as Elizabeth
The second act is just a part of "hell" getting inside i think ?
The third I agree with you, Laura's memory
The fourth... uh... Mr. Crow ? .-.
The fifth is part of the interview, Bob explaining what she was like based on the photo
The sixth is Dale's memories getting messed up by the lake
I think
i don't get what caroline & elias being associated with owls have to do with william vanderboom, who is literally mr. owl
William isn't Mr Owl
I forget which brother is which rn, but one of them is Mr Crow and the other is dead/the primary corrupted soul/gets reincarnated as Laura
The man in Cave is Jakob Eilander.
interesting
William is reincarnated, the other one is Crow
Aldous
Ok, so game x film working together in parallel universes confirmed by the trailer
yay
this'll be interesting
yup
Where do you find the trailer?
it's on youtube, on their channel
When the infamous detective Dale Vandermeer wakes up in an ominous room without any recollection of his past, he soon finds himself part of a bizarre game or...
hehe~
now thats hype
From the email accompanying the trailer: āWhen the infamous detective Dale Vandermeer wakes up in an ominous room without any recollection of his past, he soon finds himself part of a bizarre game orchestrated by an old foe as he must solve increasingly challenging puzzles to escape the room and recover his memories.ā
Itās interesting, particularly the āold foeā part
Who could that be?
Well, the voice in the video is clearly Mr. Owl...
Is it?
Yeah, I think it is
The cast list under the trailer says this:
āDavid Bowles as Dale Vandermeer
Elena KejvalovĆ” as Laura Vanderboom
Bob Rafferty as the voice of Mr. Crowā
And thatās it
Huuuuh... So it must be Crow
Bob Rafferty of course being the voice of several characters, including Mr. Owl but also Mr. Crow
Ok, so it's Mr. Crow
But of course either way have they become āan old foeā?
I just missheard the voice, and without a character it's kinda hard
Thatās what Iām thinking about
You hear Mr. Owlās normal voice more, Crowās is usually jumbled so itās not an unreasonable conclusion
Well... The film universe is different than the games, as we can see both in the trailer and in a picture they posted on twitter
and knowing that the sacrifices were'nt used in the film, it's not hard to believe that Dale and Crow could be enemies in this reality
After all, Dale only first helped him to close Laura's case, and then just worked with him
But what if they met in a different way, or if Dale refused the first time ? Or even just if Crow wasn't as nice as he is...
Then it would all be different...
Hm
There s probably a reason
Yeah
I think it would be great if you found out the signature on Lauraās prescription turned out to be mr crows or something
Lauraās prescription?
Ah ok, that
Still it would be wierd if me crow was giving the pills and he put something in them
And thatās what caused everything
I donāt know š
Maybe, maybe
Can't be more distinct than that
True š
10 mg...
yep
Yup
Yup
10mg is usually for a start as long as I remember, but I might be wrong
10 mg is the size of a single capsule
On that one, Mr crow maybe isnt the one who gave her the prescription
She s just... depressive
Most likely yeah
Prozac is used to cure
depression, bulimia, and OCD
Well "cure"...
Help reduce the effects...
It can cause
skips the physical side effects
insomnia, nausea, and intensive stress
Do you realize that we went from « mr crow have a cube on his forehead » to « Mmm... what does prozac do? »
If mixed with other drugs, it can cause
serious agitation, confusion, and a general lack of control of your muscles, from shaking to spasms
I'm really curious to know what's written on the note, though...
With a bit of pixel analysis...
Ok, I can definitely see that it's written SOMETHING and not some kind of Lorem ipsum, just because of "Signature"
It's so blurry...
Argh
It's probably nothing.
"Medical prescription"
On the first line
it's written something
I can see words
Last word of the top is "drugs"
Maybe if I play it on cubeescape.com it'll be better...
Yeah, no, still the same...
It's worse, actually, i can't zoom s close as before
The best possible shot I can have, the pixels are aligned to have the less blur possible
No...
It's not
"Medical prescription"...
it's
"Mr.Owl's prescription" !
I knew there was something here
"Info ... medical choices" ?
It's really hard to read...
I'll see if I can find the original sprite...
And, I can't...
Guess I'll have to do it the hard way...
please try to get a better look!
I personally think Harvery is a female, since she is capable in laying eggs
But a male bird laying eggs wouldn't be the weirdest thing in the RL universe, on the other hand
Yes
But in hotel u see harvey looking pretty male to me
@vague imp this is proof in his humanoid form
Harvey is just...Harvey...
Harvey more powerful then mr owl
harvey is the one true god
true...
Yes cos we can see Harvey in paradise
But we are proof of some kind of owl god thing in paradise too...
Was the cure u make in paradise the elixir
it was some kind of elixir, but it is unknown if it is the same elixir as in Roots
Do you mean the cure in the Plague doctor level?
Yes
no the cure is not the elixir
Ok
I mean, usually the elixir takes a lot more effort to make then just a few bodily fluids š
The elixir takes ALL the sacrifices
Depends a bit on your interpretation, but essentially through his momās memories it seems
no that's jacob
Oh, duh, my apologies
Lol
James has his uncleās stuff to work with
But not all sacrifices right?
Creepy uncle serial killer
I wish i knew what ~ x x o ment
You guys think Laura remembers her previous life?
I think she started to remember. Or get glances
Well no, but remember that the sacrifices in that game werenāt (or werenāt just) for the elixir, they were to reincarnate William
No i dont think so
I always thought bob killed her
No in Cave it was shown to be suicide
But her killing her self seems true too
I think her previous life caused the hallucinations that resulted in her death
True
Nope, bob killed himself after Laura broke things off and died
Does anyone have any ideas about wtf was going on in the Birthday game?!? Like, that rabbit dude is terrifying
Isnt the rabbit the skinny brother from paradise
It was a memory of Dale, which he managed to change during his mind travelling
But I don't know if the white rabbit and Mr Rabbit are the same, since the white one can be seen while Mr Rabbit is still alive
O yea
I don't think the animal people from Hotel are the family from Paradise, except Mr Owl
U do see another rabbit in the mr rabbits room
yeah
Idk the whole boar thing sold me
I thought Albert was the devil and was represented by creepy skull with horns
Albert sure was one creepy dude
Albert the best leave him alone
#ButterflyWonātFixCrazy #FeedAlbertMilkNotWine
I always wondered...after the murder of Samuel and Ida, and Marys death, Albert lived alone with Leonard and Rose until Leonard left to join the army
Did Leonard ever wonder where Rose came from?
Like, one evening, Albert suddenly showed up with a baby who he claimed was his child?
Was it wine or blood, I forget
Wine
it was wine
Ok guys nice talk back to work for me
true, true...
NOT DIFFERENT ENOUGH TO FEED YOUR NEWBORN WINE GODDAMN EMMA
@vague imp have fun at work
it was mary, but yeah, why would you feed your baby alcohol?
Oh...I meant Mary. Emma would have been a good mom...poor Frank....
"Uncle whered you get this kid"
"NoNe Of YoUr bUsInEss!"
"From the trash" ok no
šš
"Uncle you are unmarried, who is the mother?"
"IDA-n't know, kiddo!"
'uncle pls"
Albert puts in creepy mask donāt ask questions kids
i love how this went from a serious discussion to "ahahahah isnt it fun?" in a couple of seconds..
but why would he kill dales family?
He said he didnāt have a choice in his note
yeah, it was signed by Mr Rabbit
maybe its symbolic?
But mr rabbit and the white magician magic are two different things
š¤
I just want answers!!!!!
Same
lets hope Paradox will clear some things up
The White rabbit is symbolic of love, tenderness, of magic and manifestations.
according to some sources
perfectly fitting for a homicidal maniac
Hey @dim edge
Can you just answer all our questions š¬š¬
Will the game series ever end?!?
didn't they say they were planning one more premium and a few more free games in a blog post once?
If I remember right
yeah they did
Heh I doubt they will, thatās part of the fun!
tbh i lowkey hope we see the Vanderbooms again someday
yeah Roots was my absolute favourite
Sameee
VANDERBOOMS FOR THE WINNNN
My god, what you're all saying is super confusing .-.
Thatās what makes it GREAT
It's a puzzle!
So many different perspectives, so many different possibilities
Yeah but no, because you're just throwing ideas that... are false when you put it with the rest of the theories that are more or less "proved" or connected to said proved theories .-.
Just because youāve believe it to be true doesnāt make it gospel
There are some things people have said that are most likely not true, sure, but if you canāt handle it...
It's really important to keep the gate open for new ideas.
Also Harvey is trans birb and I respect his life choices.
I know i know, but there are things that are just .-.
I mean, theories have to be creative but like...
There are some things that don't work quite as well
Like the plague cure = the elixir .-.
No... Caroline was searching the elixir so...
that was just someone asking a question
I know I know
Well as you saw we discussed that
It's just confusing x)
To whom?
me
I can understand why someone might consider that
Why? And so what?
Would you rather they have not asked said anything at all?
*asked anything
no no no, calm down, I didn't say anything bad
I'm just trying to figure out what was said and what is true or not
Oh, but what if the family members on Paradise Island ingested incomplete versions of the elixir? In cave the dog still had traces of the elixir in his waste, so maybe there's something in grandma's spit, snot, and tears?
It's really unclear to me
Itās supposed to be unclear, youāre never going to get one definitive truth
And Iām fully aware of what you said
oh yeah makes sense now that you mention it
most of the stuff discussed on this channel are just theories, so you can decide yourself what to believe in
Perhaps not quite right for eternal life, but enough to help uncle whats-his-name.
Gerald i think..
Right, thanks
Mr. Boarman
Uncle Mister Dude
I will never remember his real name
I keep thinking David because he reminds me of someone I know whose name is David. Then I'm like "Oh no, that's the brother."
Why does he remind you of your David, dare I ask? š
I'm just saying that the ideas that were thrown in this channel today were quite unclear to me and that i'm really confused
that's all
Hehe, well it's not that he spends too much time getting sick on the john, not that I know. The guy I know has the same resting facial expression, same hair color (though the guy I know keeps it a bit shorter), he's also kind if a jerk like jeez say hi once and a while without demanding a shrimp.
how many shrimps he gotta eat before he get sicc
my brother ate shrimps once, and he went to the hospital because of it
Shellfish allergy?
oh jeez
nah he ate too much
At least his skin didn't turn pink
i dont remember exactly but i think it was atleast 10 cups of shrimps..and they werent small ones..
Oh
@copper hawk feel free to ask if you have a specific question! Some theories and ideas in this series are meant to be vague and maybe a bit unclear š
also did you guys notice in the rl paradox teaser there's an ear in one of the jars...who knew Van Gogh would actually tie into the rl story...
I did
But I never knew HOW
He was in literally every game since Arles
It HAD to have some implication
And I was waiting for the next manifestation in Paradox
thanks for giving me the answer earlier than expected
Seasons, no painter reference, I think
The Lake, same
Arles : you are Van Gogh
Harvey's box : you play in a melting pot of Magritte's paintings
Case 23 : the painting of Chamber in Arles in Laura's living room
The mill, nothing ?
Birthday : a painting on the wall
Theatre... interestingly enough, there is nothing .-.
The Cave : Magritte with the legged fish
Paradox : the ear
Hotel : the sky is a Van Gogh painting
Paradise : Gerald's ear chopped off
So... Yeah...
Weird connections between the games and Belgian / Dutch painters .-.
I saw it coming, now the thing is, is this ear, again, just a reference, or are we finally getting an answer ?
@vague imp
I know
i can dream tho
But just... It's weird how it connects...
ye..
The thing is, every game where you play as Dale, there is a Van Gogh reference, except Theatre, but at this point I think his mind is too messed up by the memories of other persons
the other ones, there's generally a Magritte reference
and the Rusty Lakes have Van Gogh too...
Connecting him also to the Eilander family
I forgot to mention roots
uh....
I don't recall a painter reference in it .-.
Maybe a Magritte somewhere, but idk
yeah i getcha..
also tbh we did sorta see Dales parents (or atleast) figures of them in paradox (in the teaser) ..makes me wonder
Where?
i think its on their instagram..
No like where in the video lol
Oh and did you ever noticed that the spiraling staircase in the durian fruit in Harvey's box is the same staircase than the one that leads to the Alchemists brothers' lab ?
Every time you watch it you see something new š
tbh im sorta anxious for the release date now..
Iāve never played any of the premiums, just the cube escapes
Actually nvm I have
tbh can i admit something..
yeah
i sorta ship Dale and Laura.
yeah
well yeah
meh
well yeah..
sure cya
Whatās weird is that the elevator reaches the bottom of the lake by going up
Maybe itās some kind of upside down lift
maybe?
I wonder if the next stop will be below the lake floor and the forest
Or above
Or if heās returning to the surface
Oh never mind
The green office has an elevator entrance right?
ye i think so sorry for the late as hell reply, i was getting something from the store..for hours
is there like a google doc with a summary of the story and the timeline?
Thereās a wiki but....
the wiki's just gonna tell me what literally happens in the game, not how it connects together and what it means
Did you check? It at least has a timeline
It actually has some pretty good bars yet descriptions and stuff http://rusty-lake.wikia.com/wiki/Rusty_Lake_Wikia
List of Games Games of the Cube Escape series and within the Rusty Lake timeline., Timeline Stay on track with this mysteriously interconnected series., Characters Get to know the recurring...
In winter of Seasons, does anyone have an idea who was setting things up? Who boarded up the window and nailed up the wires?
Hmm I think it was the woman in her real life, not the memories
Maybe she became paranoid
I think by that year she was already dead.
Yeah, it's weird, because those are memories, but in that case does it mean she remembered that as a corrupted soul ?
And she thought she killed herself so she destroyed her corruption in the past, except she was murdered, most likely by Bob ?...
It's the only logical reasoning I can think of
Wouldn't be the first time. After all, William remembered everything in Roots.
Yeah
I donāt know if itās been said before, but in the trailer for cube escape: paradox (both game and short film), Mr Owl says to Dale : "Some men find this place... hard to leave." Does it mean Dale isnāt the first? If he isnāt, who were the previous ones and how many were they?
Iām just saying. Maybe I missed something and the answers are obvious.
Maybe a reference to the Hotel guests, bc we clearly are in Mr. Owl's office
I mean they all died
Maybe. But obtaining Daleās memories seems to be waaay more difficult compared to the guestsā memories.
But maybe
š¤
hey people, is harvey dead?
didnt he fly away then
Anyway, Harvey is alive and well, but also not really cuz he's at the Rusty Lake and everyone there is trapped and either has died multiple times, or will eventually
Youāre never really āwellā at Rusty Lake!
Lil theory here:
As we know, Mr Crow and Mr Owl are extracting memories to probably send them to the lake.
Now, letās suppose the lake is a conscious entity that will do bad stuff (plagues?) if it doesnāt consume(?) enough memories.
Finally, notice that Dale is still alive. So he probably isnāt there to get his memories extracted.
With these aspects, I can start.
What if Mr crow and Mr Owl had enough of the lake and wanted to stop giving it what it wanted. They could try to find a way to eliminate it. Dale could be a part of their plan. They would need the gold cube to defeat the lake. As itās been created, they give it to Dale, who takes the elevator to do what he have to do.
Notice also that Mr deerās corrupted body tried to attack Dale as he was in the cabin to reach the elevator. Did the lake send it to stop Dale so he couldnāt eliminate it?
Caroline seems to have become something much more powerful
Yes, and maybe thanks to the lake that didn't like her useless sacrifice
And yes, the lake is a sentient entity, it's pretty much establish, I think
Or something in it
Now I don't see how the cube would defeat the Lake
Can you tell what it does?
The golden cube is the combination of good, bad, past and immortality
To make "the future" which is the golden cube
I really don't see how it would be of any use against the Lake
Me neither, but I felt like it could be a thing
Uh... why... not...
But I guess the Lake would've tried to kill all of them by now if he knew something was wrong
Maybe it has some sort of control over corrupted souls
Which would explain laura attacking harvey
I don't think so
Corrupted souls are, or at least it's what makes the most sense, neutral creatures
they don't know good or bad
the only thing they know is what their last wish was when they were alive
Their unfinished business
So killing harvey was Laura last wish? ...What?!
For William, it was to pursue immortality, so he cold-bloodily killed his descendants to have a new life
On that I can agree
For the Eilanders family, it was to get revenge over Mr. Owl and anyone that helped him because he tricked them into eating each other
That's why they attacked Dale
Eating each other?
in Hotel, yeah
Oh yeah. I forgot
And for Laura, the killing of Harvey isn't...
well..
it's not a corrupted soul, in seasons
You play as Laura, sure
but as herself reliving her memories
I meant in the mill
In the mirror you look like a corrupted soul in Seasons
Thatās right
Yes, but it's because you are a stranger in your own memories @manic glade
Why does it look like a corrupted soul if it isn't a corrupted soul
it's your soul that travels in your memories, you don't have a "physical" body
Think about it
who calls them "corrupted" ?
Mr. Owl
They're not corrupted, they just want him dead
Ok, but what do you do about the mill?
I'm thinking about it...
Um...
...huh, interesting thought
I don't think she wanted to kill him really...
I don't know...
maybe he was in her way
a soul is able to do anything for what they want
even if it implies killing loved ones
So what does Laura want?
I... don't know...
she literally killed anything alive in less than 10m from her
Maybe...
it was just rage
Because clearly, in seasons, she travels through her memories to prevent her death
she thinks she is the one that killed her
but she is not
About that, who killed her in Seasons?
Bob, most likely
I still think she killed herself, either intentionally or under the influence of something
if you refer to twin peaks, there is no doubt it's him
And where the FUCK does bob come from?
I wouldn't do that
Bob is her ex
I know that
Also don't forget what BOB actually was in Twin Peaks
That's a whole different story
I think they just took the name
But why is he a corrupted soul?
because this time he really is corrupted
corrupted by anger
because she dumped him
the thing is, I think there is a difference between souls and corrupted bodies
You mean, if ANYBODY is angry enough, the person becomes corrupted?
souls just want to do their last wish
corrupted bodies are beings that have a rage so great that it takes over and they are willing to kill anything
even if it's dead
Laura, when she killed everyone
it wasn't her soul
it was her body
corrupted by her memories and her anger because she couldn't stop her death
It doesnāt make much sense that being really angry make you corrupted, tbh
well
it does
if you consider that what we call "murderous rage" in our world is "corruption" in their
it just appears different
but it's pretty much the same
Iām just saying that itās surprising that there arenāt thousands of corrupted
That feeling when you're so angry about something you want to kill someone
it's rage taking over your mind and body
i mean it's the closest thing we have to corruption
well, the thing is, I think it's because of the lake that they look like this
Idk how or why
but it's what makes the most sense
So the only place where you can have a "corrupted body" is near Rusty Lake
anywhere else, it's just murderous rage
Well this does make sense.
Though, it doesnāt answer what does the golden cube do
He was nowhere near the Lake though
Unless the Lake is in the south of france, I guess
Donāt think arles is close to rusty lake
I "know" where Rusty Lake is, but the creators straight up said it wasn't true
so...
Yes you've mentioned
Where is it? Wasnāt there when it was said
Canada is even farther from France than the Netherlands are š
There's a rusty lake in canada that strongly resembles the map you see of the lake
Still, everything matches up perfectly, from the geography to the name, to even the colours of the houses in 9 yo Dale drawings !
Oh yeah I remember
It doesn't just resembles, there are mountains, hills, and different kids of forests on the exact same places than on the IG maps...
It's pretty crazy that it's not official...
No real reason it needs to be
But yeah, Van Gogh just killed the theory of people corrupted if close to the lake
The only thing that's missing is the centre island and the presence of any cubes or weird fishing cabins, but hey
And...
shit, uh...
Maybe it was part of his madness
bc we see this shadow figure when we enter his ear, the source of the voices he was hearing
and he kills it
it's not him, it's him killing what makes him mad
still idk why his madness takes the form of corruption
To make your theory of a Canadian rusty lake, you can see a newspaper called Daily Herald in Roots. In the same years of roots, there was an actual newspaper called Daily Herald published in Ontario
HUH
*make more believable
Rusty Lake is in Manitoba, but still
Thereās a rusty lake in Ontario, u know
They're 1 600 km away from each other .-.
but
Manitoba and Ontario are right next to each other
Indeed
So... maybe the newspaper just passed the frontier ?...
idk
Or the devs just messed up
It was more a local newspaper
Probably the devs just messed up
Or they just picked a generic sounding newspaper name
they're clearly not perfect, there is many errors in the games x)
Which seems most likely to me
Sure, but
why a newspaper in Canada, Ontario
where there actually is a Rusty Lake ?
it's not a coincidence
I disagree
Do you know how many newspapers named the Daily Herald there are out there?
But it's a valid theory, I suppose
They could have googled Daily Herald, it took me a few minutes to find it and it was the first to show up
The Canadian one
For me the first one to show up is in Chicago
Still, they only exist in North America
Maybe itās because I live in Canada
That would make sense, yes
Well, what do they call the newspaper in other language versions of the game?
Idk
They still only exist in North America, I mean, every name in the series looks more like european names... either from Netherlands or Germany
sooo...
There were a LOT of immigration in the years roots take place
I'll see if it's something else in french
So... the guessing game...
uh...
I don't recall the way to it .-.
Oh good, I haven't touched it in this play session
Is it Samuel or Albert ? .-.
Thereās a newspaper when the soldier (cant recall name, sry) build his motorcycle
I'll see that one
Ok, so the textures don't even change based on the language
there's just a translation when you clic on it
So... what do we do with that information?
So it means that whatever the language, it's still the Daily Herald
so it's still in North America
most likely around New York's lattitude and above
OMG
I believe it s in Canada for lil detail
If look at the helmet of soldier (name pls), itās a British one.
Canadian had the same
Oh my god, there are two Rusty Lake lakes in Ontario...
During wwii
Leonard
Thx
World War 1, that would've been
Most of the lakes in the world are in Canada, so itās not a big surprise that we found 3 times a rusty lake in Canada
Presumably still British helmets though
Since...they were still basically Britain at the time š
Sry, misspelled
Welp, here are every "Rusty Lakes" I could find
Don't mind the blue point
Just the white ones
Dear, are u living at MTL
yup
waves across the border
I litterally live a few kilometers away from u XD
Wow, that's cool :3
Yes it is
I'm pretty well placed, right next to a subway station, and a view on the "La Ronde" attraction park from my living room
Free tickets for the international fireworks competition :3
š
WHERE
Except Ontario
where we both have a Rusty Lake and a Daily Herald
But
it's the "Prince Albert Daily Herald"
so...
it doesn't match up
Thatās the one I saw i think
Rly
It's based in Saskatchewan
Hmm. Weird
I could swear I saw one in Ontario
Maybe...
Yer most likely right
Maybe it's where their main offices are
and they have some in Saskatchewan and Ontario
But
if they do have one in Ontario
they MUST have one in Manitoba, since it's stuck between both
SO
IT MEANS
IT'S MY RUSTY LAKE
YAY
Actually, the one I saw weirdly stopped to publish when roots ends, or close
But it s been months I saw it. So my memories arenāt good
But anyway, I think the location of rusty lake is well defined now
Part of Twin Peaks takes place in canada
If we see a Rusty Lake in a casino...get suspicious
Aaaaaaha
*Rusty Lake Game
...no?
Not in the Twin Peaks way š
ok
I'm kidding, I don't expect it to happen
That would be closer to the Roadhouse, if I had to pick an analogous location
With a hefty dose of the Red Room in the Lodges
And a large dash of the theater from Mulholland Drive, probably
AHAH !
An official connexion between Daily Herald and Manitoba
There is literally nothing else on the subject, though...
So, thatās it? Can finally say where Rusty Lake is?
I think
Well thatās cool
but as long as the devs don't agree with me, it won't be "official", even if it's literally their source of inspiration .-.
I think dev wonāt agree with anybody
yup
Anyway, gtg. CƩgep stuff to do. Bye
ok x)
@shadow stump @copper hawk yes Canada! šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦
Thereās a lake in Quebec where Iāve been that is actually somewhat similar to Rusty Lake, but itās not named like that
It has a boathouse that looks like the cabin, several smallish islands, and the ruins of an old mill
It is highly highly unlikely it had anything to do with the game but Iāve always found it interesting
From Ottawa btw
Huh
still interesting
šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦šØš¦
Seems birch trees are very common and native in northern America. You know what's there? Canada. Illuminati confirmed.
/o\
Are there birch trees in Europe? Thereās loads here for sure but I never thought about it
Wait are there even birch trees in the states?
Other than near the border
i live in massachusetts, there's plenty of both white and black birch here
one of the more common trees
as an european i can confirm that we have birch trees
There are birch trees in Europe, the ones in London are a common example of natural selection because of the industrial revolution, and the wood becoming grey, and the white moths suddenly disappearing in favour of the grey ones...
Blah blah blah though I don't think they are a majority
Yeah, they're way more present in North America
Especially Canada
Ok so, we know where Rusty lake probably is, but does it help in any way to understand the mystery?
We all know Canada is a magical mystical place
Pancakes were behind it the whole time
(My serious opinion: not in the slightest, I don't think it matters, and I don't think it's specifically meant to be in Canada or if the country even matters š )
(But that's just me)
Yeah, Iām not sure if the country is important or not, but it is still weird that the lake we found matches so well
Is Dale actually referred to as "Detective" at some point?
Bob call him detective
"what do you want detective" or whatever during theatre
Thatās it
Interesting
?
And which province does the lake supposedly exist in?
Manitoba
Detective isn't a position in the RCMP, is why I'm asking. They don't have them š
They have inspectors
Hmmm
Ah yes, some provinces have their own police forces which might have detectives, I haven't checked. Manitoba is not one of them š
Yes, but what prove us Dale is in Manitoba?
When he found Laura, she crawled through a portal door , or something like that
He was investigating her murder, so presumably he is with the police force in the area
And unlike Twin Peaks Dale he wasn't brought in from the federal police, the RCMP are already the federal police š
I mean, maybe the door Laura crawled through bring u from Lauraās home (in Manitoba) to somewhere else (not in Manitoba)
and on the phone call doesn't he say "this is detective dale vandermeer"
you guys are trying to find what country/place rusty lake takes place in right?
sorry i haven't been following this convo much
There's a lake in Canada that is eerily similar to the map of the lake we get at some point, so they've been trying to find more Canada connections
well because it might be relevant
i took a picture of the police car that is parked in case 23 to see if it matches with any police cars outside of america
it doesn't seem to match with any results for a canadian police car
I personally will consider it to be in the Netherlands and largely irrelevant unless the games give me a reason to think otherwise š
Remember that game is in 1972
Dale isnāt necessarily from Canada, as I explained above
It might be NOT her house
Interesting theory
Yeah I'm going to stick with my Occam's razor way of looking at things š
I donāt get the joke : /
Occam's razor is a problem-solving principle. "The simplest answer tends to be the right one"
This is Rusty Lake
Again, that's just me though, I understand the joy of scrutinizing everything to come up with all kinds of theories š
This is indeed rusty lake
Indeed
Not sure Twin peak has this much influence on Rusty Lake
(I'm joking, I strongly believe it doesn't)
Oh no, Iāve been wooshed
I'm sorry to hear that
maybe rusty lake is in illinois?
i don't know how much it's intended to borrow from real life
i'm probably going too deep here but
like i said i doubt this is more than just a
they used that name for it absent mindedly
So do I, but they went down that rabbit hole as well. There's also a daily herald in Canada
Maybe 2? I don't remember
There were like two or three in Canada
Oops, my bad
Looks like a "generic police car" to me
I think Timothy is right
Also also :
I'm not gonna translate it, but it says there are Detectives in Manitoba
It's a regulation policy for private detectives
Sooooooooooooo
Well, nothing says he is attached to the government
Except having an office in a police station, sure
hn
I've had enough for now, you all have fun š
He got u, red
I didn't "get" anyone
U know what I meant
I'm just stating facts š
It could be completely irrelevant.
Dale very well could be a private detective
hnnnnn
Maybe Laura isn't from Canada, she just went to the lake there
Maybe a billion other things
It's not clearly said he's in a police station, there is just one policeman that helps him have an eye on Bob
But maybe it's just one of those Manitoba policies
I'll read the article
Most importantly though the minute this becomes a "competition" or one person's opinion or theory is pushed as the "definitely correct and true one" you lose me
I'm going to go make egg salad now
I never ever wanted this to go this far
