He's my favorite artist, I've had the occasion to see this works irl a few times and they never stop to amaze me. In particular I would go with the Emblemata series. It's a series of 24 woodcut works with Latin and Dutch quotes.

I absolutely loved Arles as someone whose favorite artist is Van Gogh. I thought that it was fun, an incredibly unique game in the overarching plot. As for if I like his painting, absolutely.

I can’t really think of an artist who fit into Rusty Lake more than Van Gogh, tbh. Maybe… Rembrandt, the man who inspired Van Gogh? I think The Night Watch, The Polish Rider and potentially even Six’s Bridge, if we’re allowed to include etchings/traditional sketches.

Edvard Munch because he had mental illness with hallucinations and even went into a clinic for it for some time.. seems fitting for RL. Also everyone would recognise his most famous piece "The scream". Apparently he always saw red sky when he had bad anxiety and that was about a particularly bad day of it. He also had some paintings reminiscent of some the game themes "separation", "inheritance", "jealousy"

DaVinci would be good if you wanted to include a lot of contraption puzzles but he's been covered plenty in the escape room game genre

Personally, I think it's important that Van Gogh was picked specifically. Yes he's a famous artist and one of many that first come to mind when asked to name an artist. However I find it interesting that he's an artist with schizophrenia and referenced in more than just one cube escape game. I personally believe that schizophrenia is important to the overall story as mental health is basically an overall and important theme for Rusty Lake. The white door was all about a man suffering with a mental illness and being helped in a hospital. Schizophrenia just seems like a way to explain the shadow/soul we see through the games. Schizophrenia is also proved to be genetic and only really makes itself known in late teens to adulthood. with all this information we could just be following a family with schizophrenia that they can't treat and end up dying/killing others due to their hallucinations. #RLM

I love CE Arles, it's my favourite one. As I said multiple times it shows how everyone can become "corrupted", also in real life. I love Van Gogh's paintings.

Some time ago I wrote a post on the RL reddit about an hypothetical new game inspired by an artist: `"I'd love to see a new cube escape about Erik Satie. If u dont know he was a classical piano composer born in 1866 in France that made gymnopedie no.1, a famous piece that has been used in an old rusty lake game (i think samsara room but i dont remember).

Honfleur is where he lived and rumors say that his house consisted of 2 rooms: the one where he lived and a room with his collection of umbrellas that he always kept locked (the bathroom was in common with other apartments). When he went outside he always carried an umbrella and if it started raining he would hide it under his raincoat.

He was criticised a lot by his teachers and music critics because his music didnt follow classical music standards. He died because of a cirrhosis caused by his heavy alchool addiction."`

The levels aren't necessarily played in chronological order, the events that happen first are closer to the roots of the family tree. But I find that great that you get a choice in solving the levels the way u want !

I'm playing bits by bits, like 1 chapter per sibling at a time, now playing albert i see how it is in chronological order and i just played it wrong, when I'll replay it for the lore I'll keep it clean to understand more what happened

The years in which the scenes take place are written at the beginning of each scene, I recommend mentally registering them for the order of events if you’re into the story

There is no wrong way to experience the story ! What you did helped exploring each of the sibling individually, when a chronological playthrough might be more confusing for characterising all of them

But I still recommend replaying it because it's a great game

They're all different ways to experience the story and one of my favorite things about rusty lake is how you can play any of the games in any order and understand the story in different ways. it's so so good and interesting

How to play with my friends ?

To play the game follow these steps:

1. Communicate with your partner. You can do it in a call or through messages in any of the apps you are comfortable with (Discord is a good option too). You can also just speak to each other in real life.
2. Open up the game
3. Pick a different time each. One player picks Future, the other player picks Past
4. IF you're playing the complete paid version of the game pick the same insect (BEE or BUTTERFLY)

The game itself is not online and there’s no connection/invitation/code in it. By selecting different times you’ll be dragged to 2 different rooms filled with hints for each other. Speak to your partner and describe what you see around to solve puzzles together!
