How to play
This is a tabletop escape room adventure for up to 4 players plus a game master. The game itself will take 60-90 minutes of playtime.
The game master uses the guide provided by Rusty Lake. It takes around 30 minutes for the game master to read the guide and prepare the game well.
The role of the game master is to guide the players through the story by describing their surroundings, presenting them with puzzles and describing the result of the player's actions.
The game master gives the players the image cards to illustrate the story and puzzles.
The players work together to unravel the mystery presented by the story. They can do this by asking the game master questions about their surroundings. Through this exploration, they can solve puzzles or find new clues and items.
If the players provide the game master with the correct solution to a problem, the game master will describe the result of their actions and provide them with new places or objects to explore.
About
Rusty Lake Untold brings the classic rusty lake experience to your living room with this new tabletop escape room adventure. The game consists of a pre-written adventure with its own game master guide and cards that are downloadable upon release.
The game is still under development and will be released in the upcoming months. If you have signed up you will gain early access to our first free adventure: The Lab! In this story players find themselves in a mysterious laboratory and have to find a way out. Those with early access can become part of the development by providing us with their feedback, so we can further improve this game.
After the release of The Lab we have a second adventure that will be ready for release near the end of the year. This adventure will be a premium product which we will share more about in the coming months as well.
Stay tuned for updates and thank you all for your support,
Team Rusty Lake
Ps. To all the Rusty Lake game masters out there, make sure sign up here: https://www.rustylakeuntold.com/

New channel 😎
The first story, The Lab, will be free.
it'll be something you can download.
aaah I see, that's hype !!
Is this game multiplayer like TPW?
It's cooperative, yes 😄
first story ? do we know how many there will be ?
currently, as stated, there's 2 in the works.
I just subscribe to become game master, I kind of regret that
LET'S GOO'
this is so hype I can't
I supprt you and your game mastering
Because I don’t have time to be one around this period
it's okay it wont be out tomorrow! haha
If it helps, preparations take about 30 minutes
Not hours or days 😄
Maybe I’ll try to be a player first and gain more experience to be a game master after seeing how the others work
It's very GM friendly
how smart of the lake, collecting the emails in such a clever way /j
Since the first version of this is the lab, could we play along in underground blossom or is it something entirely by itself?
we've had a news letter for a long time!
Since it’ll be released for the upcoming months and it’s free, does that mean this game somewhat has a format like those cube escape games?
its NOT comparable to the lab level in UB
that depends on how you define format.
the more ways the more emails as we say :D
You can use the trailer shown as a baseline
I mean a game with smaller scale and fewer levels (but maybe bigger than cube escape games)
I'd describe the lab as "one level"
if that makes sense
keep in mind that since it's "tabletop" it's not a videogame.
It's a game, no video XD
yes...
Since we need someone else to play, would it be possible to use the voice channels and play or does it only work in person? I’ve never played a paper board game before.
so a video-games
I’m so excited to have my friends who no nothing about rl play with me, it’ll be like tpw all over again!
we will probably set up discord architecture to play.
So it’s a game similar to TPW, but this time we require paper and pen to sort out the surroundings and requires some physical movements beyond the digital world…
YIPPIE !
a very good opportunity, and now you can invite more than one person!
In a sense.
Since its downloadable it should be possible to show the downloaded pictures via screen share right?
lol I wish. None of my friends are interested in puzzle games
Time to go for the psychological warfare
It's not a puzzle game, it's a cooperative tabletop experience
Aye, you could even print em and shove em under a webcam! haha
Aha, I predicted something like this will come along! Hype.
3 locations maybe 👀
it was quite funny when you dmed me about the RL ttrpg you were working on
considering all of this
This will be fun 😊
id say so!
I'm still not sure what to make of it. It seems to be more like one of those escape room games, instead of a real freeform TRPG, but with a guiding game master? Anywas I'm beyond excited for this! This is the kind of experimentation I was talking about earlier
yeah, I think that's a good way to describe it.
As a long time game master with players, who are also quite into escape rooms, that will be right up our alley!
seems like you've got your team ready!
Avengers assemble
another team is ready!
I'm the dm for a regular DND group, but we play just about whatever
I see an experiment formin'
ah yeah I think this is definitely a fun one off you can do with your group of players, if you host regular game nights!
Yeah, I'm super excited to see what these adventures hold
I love shortform ttrpgs, just throw them in there for a round or two
is this like stanley parable where we are stanley and the game master is the narrator omg
I’m excited to be a little lab rat and test out the lab before the launch of the official version comes out! All of this is so exciting, this is really the type of stuff I love abt rusty lake I’m so happy rn I’m practically jumping up and down
Will there be ways to take stuff like the cube escape games/ paradox/whatever other RL game and make it into a game like this?
If I could run my players through the RL timeline
man that'd be a dream come true
I mean... sort of.
H, DID U GET THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING? THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING WAS MY FAVRITE!!
LMAO
OH I LOVED THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING
You know what else I love? Rust Lake and ttrphs
Truly, a good day
...not fixing that typo
the lab is a standalone story, I guess technically the RL games ARE transferable to this format
this is really experimental damn i thought they were already really creative with tpw i totally didnt expect them to go a step further
I love how much new stuff they're trying recently(ish), yeah
I never know what to expect, but so far it's all been super fun
this really a new era as they say
But if thatll be done by us, I cannot say.
Imagine 4 Dales running through paradox
hahaha
Oh I can't wait
brains mentioned
done and done lol
😭
also
This is a tabletop escape room adventure for up to 4 players plus a game master. The game itself will take 60-90 minutes of playtime.
is this about the lab or the premium version?
cuz omg free game with 90 minutes playtime
This describes the lab, yes
omg 🔥
I feel like every rusty game is premium regardless of its price, that's just how good they are
tru
Even the original Samsara Room is a gem
still want to play it, the very first games are very high quality and the later the games the better, it just never stops
its worth searching out on flash preservation archives
It does feel odd going back and seeing how high quality the original releases were
And then you get to the end and it's like
Underground Blossom! TPW! We've entered 3d! We've entered extra 3d with the table top!
3D (but real)
Can't wait for RL to make a 4D game
yes thank you !! I found it but I still can't rn but definetely saving the link !!
...smell scratch cards when?
hahah
bold of you to assume life is real
IS SMELL THE FOURTH DIMENSION ????!?!?!?!?!
||where are the prints out for the game I have the website||
we have to wait. it is painful. but we must
ohhh
literally everything about this is exciting, instead of doing a regular trailer we get EXTRA CONTENT ON THE GAME JUST FOR ||THE WEBSITE|| how insanely awesome is that ????? literally so glad to be a part of this community
may or may not invite everyone I can to this amazing universe
you should!
I hope I will be able to talk mu friends into playing this.
I like how it's gone from
"Nah just grab the matches from the vent, don't worry about getting it open"
To
";) "
RL 4D... It looks fun! but I'm a little scared.....
"okay to open this vent you need to go to a website, to get there you can to collect the first letter from all of the books in alphabetical order and when you're on the website get the login by clicking this tiny pixel on the pigeon's eye and when you get it you'll find some binary code, translate it into coordinates in australia and fly there, then you have to play and win chess with the restaurant owner before you get the cube, inside is a reward and a youtube link, good job you found the trailer for our upcoming game !"
- rusty lake
if im the gamemaster i can imagine myself being frustrated either cuz the group cant figure stuff out (my impatience) or ppl going like 'bro u suck at explaining' lol
YEah, that's worrying, but the people in the latter category arent worth playing with
lmfaoo yea i hope the latter doesnt happen
TBF, ttrpgs are a matter of giving and taking
Both sides need to be trying to have a good time
And your definition of a good time doesn't need to be the same as everyone else's, but you do need to agree with everyone actually at the table
"you suck at explaining"
have you seen the rusty lake timeline it's a knot we don't even have a name for, not your friends if they do that
I'm not sure I can find someone to play this with but I'll do my best, it's so so exciting
(Murder hobo'ing can be fun if everyone's a murder hobo and the dm also has fun setting up encounters. Narrative driven stuff is super fun, if everyone puts in the effort and it's not all dropped on one person. A mix? Also very possible and cool!
Puzzle game? Everyone needs to be giving it a fair shot for it to work)
Use safety tools, prepare expectations on session 0, talk with players before and after a game. From experience.
If you don't understand something, ask specific questions to get the answer. "u suck" isn't a question
Is there a website with all this information I can share to my friend who's curious?
For something like this (with 30 mins of preptime on a GMs part), having a short convo and jumping in can be enough. But yeah, the bigger the scope of the project, the likelier you're going to want a session 0 and proper conversation
This link 😄 It's also in the pinned message, @bronze dune
Thanks!
The "How to play" section has the images shown here too
(if youre not on light mode...)
(if you're not on light mode...)
looks so good. the only other game ive played that had a gamemaster we had to wear blindfolds and feel our way through a tabletop maze while trying not to get ax murdered so this seems much better
Can't wait until my players don't listen to the story at all and decide to build an improvised flamethrower to fight everything
does fire even kill a corrupted soul though
only one way to find out!
i feel like mr owl wouldnt exist if it did
Haha, Grey, I understood you are a fellow ttrpger from that statement.
Ow forgot to ask, Damy or anyone else from the team, do you plan to release this through DrivethruRPG, or through your website? Is there only a PDF, or a printed version as well?
I cant answer this, personally.
Ah ok. Will sign up for the playtest!
You should!
Depending on if I have time id like to host a session or two, once it's out into the world.
See you at the table. If time constraints are of issue, I may write something for your system and run one as well, should you join.
Is the hosting done online ? Or irl ?
I'd imagine online since the community is so widespread. Of course, if possible, you can probably bring this to a physical table.
New Hypercube Escape series confirmed?
@slate flicker , Im sorry, but since when does this channel exists?
since a few hours.
Oh ok it is about the pen and paper rl game right?
yes, check the pin!
theres a sign up sheet on the website
check your junk mail
Theres still nothing
Does anyone know what station the lab is in? I think this is the right spot to ask for help finding it?
the lab is a station on its own ! if you want help you can go to #ub-help !!
Oh!! Thank you!!!
Uh oh, I also have not received a confirmation email. May it be server lag, or should I resubmit?
I am talking about the subscribe newsletter thingy in pinned.
Thank you Damy, much appreciated!
people are mistaking RL untold with UB lol
I resubmitted 3 times, and used another email, and haven’t received an email , I thought the problem was my internet (maybe it is
)
mine worked fine
Don't think so. It's probably a random issue on their end. For some users it works, for others it seems that the subscription confirmation never came.
Maybe
I did also try and haven't received anything yet! So who knows maybe the emails are sleeping
They got lost in the way
hey there, I made a fan art about the new table top RL game
||Talk what’s the symbol order on the box?? I’m sorry i can’t figure it out lol||
Could you put that in spoilers?
Hi!
Une question
Rusty Lake Untold its like a game when you only need paper or there gonna be things like cards
it's a spoiler, mark it as such
image cards
The game will be in for example south america?
we just need the online stuff
then we print it
i'm sorry, i forgot. I deleted the image cuz i couldnt mark it as such after posting
It’s understandable, the labs do be mixing up haha
Is it possible to play the pen and paper game With just one player?
thanks for asking my question!
this is a separate question about if I should play it all by myself.
I was also thinking that
So I made a joke about it
I don't know it of course, but I don't think that will be possible.
I sign up it for subscription. What do I do now?
You just have to wait for an email
Yes, there is such a thing like a GMless TTRPG system! However, you would need to have someone else write the scenario, so you do not spoil yourself.
There is, but I think he asked specifically about Rusty Lake Untold
Which seems not to be GM less
Yes, you are correct Buzzn. We shall wait and see. It's definitely a great task to have investigative narratives on pen n paper to be singleplayer.
well, while it can happen, TTRPGS are made to be played with other people
that's why they're great!
wait damy, why is the puzzle there if you guys just posted the website lol
How long does it usually take to receive the email I haven’t received it yet😢
so how many people can play? four?
I kinda hope there's a "premium" version at some point so I can get nicely laminated cards
From what I gather, 1-4 + gm
ok at least two including myself thx!
Yeah, so 2-5 with one person being the gm
Same
ig u r right but i dont have friends who play rusty lake game sad 🥲
you just need to find people that like tabletop RPGs
not necessarily a fan of the series
k i will think about it
I will run games when it launches if anyone is interested 😄
Seasoned GM and TTRPGer here.
RL needs to either not have the https link ||in UB|| or set up the basic website security things so https works
@slate flicker as official junior community manager
is that sign up link only for people that want to be the gm? so if you only want to be a player you shouldn't sign up cos spoilers? (i just realised this after re-reading)
Happy to announce that the confirmation email finally landed in my inbox.
This channel only became accessible after the community solved the puzzle. Also the puzzle serves as a small introduction to how the ttrpg works
No feel free to sign up regardless
Sorry I'm unsure what you mean with this
They have wake up, I received 5
Lool i see
Yeah sorry unsure what's causing this, but if it's just a delay I'm not sure if I can help much!
Np if its a delay its better than never receiving them
Https doesn't worth with the site, only http
I'm not getting any issues w/ https?
works fine on my firefox browser even if i enable https only mode so maybe its a problem on your end and clearing the cache and reset SSL cache will fix it?
Maybe, in the bathroom rn so I'll check soon
same theme ?????!!?!!?!??! what are the chances LOL
Haha i think i just picked one of the default firefox ones, so the chances probably are higher than expected;)
Yeah, ssl issue on my end
thank you Kitty
The reset is annoying
Np!
ngl, it's pretty genius how ||you can get early access by putting in the second code in the box||
fun puzzle right!
yeah for sure!
Oh? Afaik (tho this may be bad info) iff you do that it just takes you to the normal site
Unless you mean the solving
what's afaik
As far as I know
Ahh fair
what is the purpose of this channel?
The paper game, in dev with a small taste and a news letter now
I wondered will be untold card set delivered to Hong Kong 🥲
Anyhow I've subscripted that
if I'm not wrong, you can download the cards when the untold is available
That's correct for the first adventure it Will be downloadable online
This gave me an idea. If I can manage to fix my windows partition, I will have a surprise.
oh ?
when would that be?
Check the website! It has all the info:)
wait
imagine we get a rusty lake text-based game
I feel like it would fit the "bringing old stuff back" reoccuring theme PERFECTLY AND I LOVE text-based games
is the paper puzzle solvable solo? (the one with a youtube video and the lab box) or is it a community solve type deal?
i mean, the TTRPG itself is made to be played by 4 people
this puzzle of the box? easy enough to do alon
alone
Yeh i meant box puzzle. Gonna work on it solo for a bit then probs
Just for fun
good luck, feel free to ask for help!
Specifically up to 4 players+ a Game master. So starting at 2 minimum.
will rusty lake untold be canonical?
i hope so
Will Rusty Lake Untold be replayable?
play, play again, and you'll find out!
i mean, if it was a normal TTRPG, sure, but it has the same puzzles so probably not
i hope there is some section like case 23 chapter 4
i love the timed pressure
i just hope it has sweet lore
do u need a dice to play? I mean, is there anything random in the game or not?
I cant comment on that at present
I have a question about Rusty Lake Untold… is it going to be necessary for people to play in real life? like… exactly in the same room?
ohohoho special chat for secret game
yes
that's what a TTRPG is
oh, okay, I don’t know what a TTRPG game is sorry
ok now I need to buy 4 tickets so my friends can come here… amazing…
To give a nuanced answer, it depends, it doesn't necessarily mean physical presence! What do I mean by this:
- Almost all TTRPGs can be played online, if not, there are tools that aid in that;
- Depending on players, some may find socializing more impactful, while others may consider the story and gaming experience enough;
- As Damy has said, the first, free, adventure is in pdf format, so you can host such a game on Discord or on another platform pretty easily.
oooh, I see now, YAY
it’s just that not many friends of mine irl like the Rusty lake games and usually find them boring soo
I have a lot of experience in running online TTRPGs, so if you have any other questions, I can aid with information. If you are comfortable through DMs, otherwise I have no problem answering stuff from my experience here as well.
I see I see… what does TTRPG stands for?
One more thing, the online aspect is very dependant on you and your friends' setups. So, it requires a good internet, good mic, and optionally a good video camera to get the most out of an online experience. Other than that requirements, it's pretty straightforward.
Tabletop Role Playing Game.
Well, you have to agree its far from ideal tho
Not the same experience
oh shit… well, I’ll see how it goes
I agree, but let's not gatekeep such a great hobby! Online quality TTRPGs are better than none, don't you agree?
Yeah fair point
ooh, ok ok… so if it’s going to be in PDF, I’ll have to print a lot of stuff???
Yes and no
If you meet in real life, yes! If online, just sharescreen.
You can do irl with a laptop screen lol
Again, not ideal
Haha, true. I went once to this cafe where we had a screen projector with touchscreen. That was awesome 😄
ooh, okay, bonus point for online then
I even made a map for the occasion.
I’ve never played this kind of games before, so I’m glad it’s my first time and also with a Rusty Lake game
My main problem rn is that my friend group isnt the best TTRPG enjoyers, so im trying to find players outside of my friend group lol
I know the feeling, finding people who commit to longer campaigns is though. I resolved, somewhat, by hosting more oneshots than full campaigns. Also, who knows, perhaps our paths will cross at the virtual table? I would love to play/host an Untold adventure.
Well, rusty lake is a perfect introduction to the genre
But idk if they want to
So im going with what im certain of
If i need to, i can force my family into it lol
As far as tabletop rpgs go, I'd say RL Untold has a pretty low bar of entry.
how many friends do I need to play the new game?
two of my friends have tried to play RL. But there are too many blood and jump out thing. So they didn't play anymore.
For the Pen and Paper you need 1 player to DM and 1 to 4 people to be players (so 2 to 5 people total).
For The Past Within you need 1 partner.
For Underground Blossom, you don't need anyone.
The Pen and Paper is a tabletop experience, so if your friends have issues with jumpscares, those shouldn't be a problem at least 😄
the number of my friend is only enough fot tpw 😦
in that case you'll also have enough for the pen and paper!
and I'm alone in this city
one player and one game gamster
Gamster
it's okay its a new word
We're likely going to set up discord architecture (like we did for TPW) so you can find and play with people here 😄
so the only choice for me is have a video chat with my only not-afraid-of-RL friend
thank you
Don't have to, but some people prefer pdfs, some prefer digital books, some prefer paper
Even in-person
And that's the neat thing about a ttrpg, you can adjust the setup to work for you
For example, I've used an official app (corporate-backed ttrpg) for in-person character sheets and used a Discord bot for an online campaign using similar rules
Things are dynamic, and you can figure out what's best for you, even if that ends up being a camera pointed at the desk for online play
And fixed the website by resetting SSL certs in settings
ooh… guess I’ll have to learn how to play ttrpg now…
It's different for everyone, this one should be simple on the rules as it's mostly puzzles
can untold be played on Discord?
rhyme !
We'll probably set up architecture so people can find groups and play on the discord and the first adventure is a free pdf
thank, that's a relief
I'll invite someone I know to do it
I have some suggestions about how to implement something like that, if you are interested! Although, I do not know if I should post it here, as it's Untold related, or in #💭|suggestions-and-feedback .
I guess either'll do.
There are 2 methods that you can employ:
- The thread method - you arrange a new category called Rusty Lake Untold, in which there is a text channel called game-offerings, and multiple 5 people voice channels (PnP Room n, where n is the desired number of rooms). In game-offerings, post a template of a gaming offering post that GMs should abide by. I recommend also setting up an automatic thread bot for this purpose. Each offering has an associated thread;
- The forum method - since this is a community server, you should be able to open a Rusty Lake Untold forum channel, which can host a template for a post. Here, people may either offer to run games (GM) or LFG (Looking For Games). Have people participate in these posts by reacting and arranging with eachother in posts that interest them.
A template I often use in TTRPG communities I am in below:
STATUS (OPEN - accepts players | CLOSED - is either full, has been held)
TITLE (the title of the adventure)
AUTHOR (who wrote the adventure)
GM (who runs the campaign)
SETTING AND TIME PERIOD (optional, it's used when multiple temporal choices may come in place)
DESCRIPTION (spoiler free synopsis of the adventure)
DURATION (rough estimate of how long the session will take)
TIME AND DATE (exact time and date of game hosting, I recommend using timestamps for these)
PLAYERS (N/M, where N is current, M is max, should update with edits as situation is changing)
That does align with thoughts I've had, to a certain extent
Thanks for your suggestions
will this one also be in multiple languages? (hoping to finally pull some other people close to me into the lake. dutch btw)
Well, we can translate it ourselves
That's what i was planning atleast
i'll probably do the same, although from what i've seen in the hints, most of the actual hints that the players get are non specific to any language
I did some translation Jobs so i'm quite experienced
i once tried some, however the development itself took priority. so only 1 script in the end.
You just need to maintain the general meaning
yep
Like the time significance of the books
Lol
Funny enough, i never got paid
I always worked by passion
for me it's more of a study thing at the moment
was really funny to see the name of one of my teachers in the credits (the person who played the trumpet)
Wow thats amazing!
it was funny. escpecially because we have some fans at school.
not a lot though
planning to fix that

I wish our school had fans of the series like i am
one of the things we had to make was a point and click game. during that project the fans found each other. (basically a 2 week project)
Cool! Im Making a game too!
was a fun project (even if we didn't have a programmer, 1 of the designers only played games, and 1 of the artist didn't draw according to the puzzle design)
ooooh, what are you making?
Its an educational game about math, but being an actual game instead of the current market
could be interesting, what is your target audience? early math learners or experienced
Everyone, its ambitious to the point that i wanna include everything
Even making a story that gets more complex as you go through the game, so its fun for every age range
But i also want to make engaging puzzles, so people in high school can still enjoy and learn
although that is really cool. do start with a smaller group in mind, escpecially when it's about learning, you'll attrackt a certain audience. it's not bad to aim for an everyone, but having a specific group in mind can help you shape your gameplay.
Yes, i will make a smaller project with a ridiculously small scope to get funding
for example a disonnance between gameplay and target group is in rayman brain games. brutal platforming for junior players
is this your first game?
But the main focus is to make people like math, specially those with difficulties on it (older age groups)
Not really, but its my first big project
1 thing that i can really advice in that case, is finding creative ways to show the concept. a great example of how they applied math concepts in a creative way is the video 'animation vs math' on youtube
The idea is doing a progression where it never gets too hard or too easy
I have some plans for that
But also doing optional challenges for those who want it
a good vertical slice is in that case really important, and a good planning ( i know it's the worst part, but a good gdd helps a lot. and the lack of it hurts a lot, this is from experience)
YES, thats the entire idea
Learning without formulas
do you already have a gameplay idea?
I mean, we'll use them, but they'll be hidden for the player
I do, but that would be revealing too much on a public chat lol
as long as you have a clear idea of the gameplay (including on how to pitch it) it's fine.
for example for one of our previous projects we had to pitch to investors (shark tank/dragons den themed)
so what did we make in 3 weeks. a vr fitness games where your head is the controller so that your hands are free for more movement
Now that i think about it, shouldn't we be in #🛖|the-cabin ?
yeah...
That's amazing!
in the upcoming months

I only have 2 friends I could play it, so I guess both will play as 2 people
thats okay, 2 players and a game master is totally fine
what about 1 person and a game master
when will the start be approximately?
rusty lake dungeons n dragons?
No specific date! But it will be in the upcoming months :)
Yes thats the idea, kind of.
Sir Mr. Crow told you that behind the distant hills and the lake of the forest, sits the evil magician Albertus, collect all the cubes of infinity and defeat him.
so where could we access to the Lab pdf?
It's not out just yet!
hey, does anyone know what to do when I'm finally ready and I even have an egg but I don't have a purple feather? I was following a burning feather in a guy's mouth and suddenly it disappeared and I don't have it anywhere, I won't go out without it
I think they're referring to Samsara Room
what is this?
yes
If you saw a red and yellow circle, then I'm guessing it went into a jar in the box where you found the egg, also the place to post questions about Samsara Room is #samsara-room-help
i mean this. i don’t have the purple feather🪶
I don't have it in this guy's mouth either
Im not sure which one you’re missing, but the petals are located ||behind the wood in the clock, telehone, book and in the air||
NFCCF
As per usual with our new projects yeah announcements will happen
If you mean the ||Research Facility||, it's ||36133||
what was this channel for?
check the pinned message
(fadi mos question was unrelated and should have been in #ub-help )
will the pdf be emailed to whorver signed up once its out?
ig seems very interesting im very exited
I did not realize that there was a pen and paper ttrpg sorta game being made for Rusty Lake. Signed up IMMEDIATELY.
there sure is! good choice!
I think what's funny is that it's been soooooooo long since I last played through nearly every game, that when they all popped up on Steam, I ended up playing through them all again. I both greatly and loosely remember enough where it feels like a new experience again. 💖💖
HAha im glad to hear that!
did the lab early access release?
I just signed up and confirmed though I didn’t receive anything
this is just the site being announced
I see
"Sign up to be the first to know when our first adventure, The Lab, will be available for free ✍️"
that news is coming later.
Ah
Cuz this part confuses me
I thought that I can obtain part 1 right after I sign up
I know, I got confused
If i have already sign up in the pinned message I dont need to sign up, or do I?
that's correct.
Oh so I dont need, but lemme check the site
Kind of.
I’ll see if I can convince my friends to play this
itll be a fun experience, for sure! goodluck.
Have to make my presence known 😉
Ah I got confused because the link wasn’t linking
Just seeing the site announcement gave me hype!
This game will be free?
Only the first adventure: The Lab.
So in the announcement page, which box were they’re talking about specifically? Is it the one in the lab or the box in soul station?
Yes.
I signed up again just to make sure I wont miss anything:)
the one in the station
The lab station? Is that correct?
Really good idea cause not all played TPW cause it paid
they're missing out ¯_(ツ)_/¯
And by the way Damy. I already signed up for the table top game.
Developers have to eat as well!
What do you mean by that?
The devs also need money
The discussion on Free vs Paid. Nevertheless, hype!
good!
Yes they are
Yooo I'm too hype for untold
One big question, can I print the tabletop printouts from my iPad once early access is released?
it's a pdf, so yeah.
we encourage printing, even.
me too!
Is it going to be sth like D&D or It's just puzzle?
It'll be a tabletop experience, but not quite like dnd
It's going to be so much fun to look at the world with different eyes again
We've gone from 2d to 3d to 4d
esscape room
I think comparing it to DnD straight up sets wrong expectations.
My only problem will be finding someone to play with😅
What is dnd?
From what I understand, are we to provide feedback and interact with the development of The Lab, or with the entire game system? I am hyping around my room rn.
we'll probably set up server architecture, don't worry @quiet cloak
We're planning to set up the server in such a way as to help people, like with TPW
That's cool
Dungeons and dragons
look it up
I don't see how the two are exclusive, personally.
I am hyping into stratosphere, stop you wonderful people 😄
Oh makes sense, but isnt the game, like, physical?
There's ways to play it online that work
Physical of course has its own benefits (that's why Damy recommended to print the game), but it's a pdf too
oh really?
Probably
Never played DND but this seems similar so excited to play it with friends that do play DND
Its an adventure TTRPG but its mostly storytelling but untold is a horror exp
More details will come out later, same with the server architecture
Like mentioned, while it's a table top rpg, it's not the same kind as DND specifically. If you and your group just enjoy ttrpgs in general though, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!
I think the only similarity is the game master
Yeah I might also get someone to play, but if not, I am counting on you all!
Every TTRPG has a GM
ah ok
Bold words
Not quite true, there's solo ttrpgs and GMless ttrpgs
Not really. Not to correct, but I met some GMless systems!
Imagine playing the Rusty Lake tabletop game only the game master and stuffed animals as players.
Oh right my bad either way it's seems exciting I don't play many ttrpgs so it'll be fun
It's alright, it's a very exciting announcement 😄
What? but how? Who sets the rules?
if you have the rose and albert plushies plus the harvey one then you can
You use a preexisting framework and work together towards a common goal, usually. Meanwhile, for solo games it often takes the form of journaling with random elements.
Although again, not always. I love the variety in the medium
omg yay, so many games recently release board games, paper rpg sounds like interesting direction
will there be vc's added to the server dedicated to the ttrpg?
Also - yeah there are solo, and GMless systems
We are considering ways to let you guys play online through the server, ye
But I think TTRPGs with DM are more fun
Like Sammy said, also, there are Oracles, which act as a faux GM.
nice
There are also one page systems
Well then you're in luck here!
Anyway, I wouldn't want this to be GMless, I love GMing.
overall I'm pretty excited and have high expectations
Yeah i always like to take the responsibility of GMing
I honestly have never played a tabletop RPG so I am proud that my first time will be whit a RL rpg!
same!
Perhaps our paths will cross at the virtual table then. GMs also make for excellent players.
Well, I hope you'll enjoy the new experience 😄
Thanks!
Curious, do you inspire/base it somehow on any other system mechanics wise, or is it completly new agnostic setting?
I really enjoy trying out ones that go with out of the box mechanics, like cards insted of dice etc 😄
As far as I know (and I am not a dev), it's not based on any specifc system.
I hope so , i never played a horror TTRPG so I'm so excited for untold
Hi there! Is the first free adventure out yet, or we should wait for it in the next months?
I think it is not out yet
The free adventure will be shared somewhere in the upcoming months
Thank you
I'm curious about something
Will it be played with regular pen and paper or would be need special equipment
You won't need any special equipment. As long as you have a way to read pdfs and take notes, I think you should be fine.
That's amazing
I love how rusty lakes has become more than just a phone game
It's so much more handson
(And if you print everything, you won't even need to read pdfs for long)
I think it's amazing to see the devs experiment with new things, like 3d games and physical stuff
And what about premium scenarios Should we buy 'em from official website or they have physical packs ?
I can't answer questions like that yet. More information will be shared closer to release 😄
It will all make sense by then
Ok thanks for info !
Exactly!!! I've been waiting for this since the announcement a few months back
Chyah!
I wonder if The Lab and the other stories that are coming from rl untold will have other-languages versions 🫠
Sorry im unable to answer that question at thistime.
Hello, where can i try the game ?
It's yet to be released
Oo okay thank you, but its a new game right? Or i misunderstood
It's a table top rpg that you can play with your friends go to official web for more info about it . It most be an escape room i think
so from what i'm gathering this is going to be similar to rusty lake d&d?
In the fact that it's a tabletop experience with a gamemaster, yeah.
This is giving me d&d vibes lol
if you like dnd youll definitely like this too!
@slate flicker Will server have some special parts for playing untold?
You'll need to specify what you mean with that sorry
I mean , are we going to have specific voice chats, text channels, or bots for untold?
yes we will set up some sort of server architecture
out of curiosity; when you say bots, what do you mean?
I don't really mean sth special, Maybe sth that helps GM for calculation or puzzles like the bots for D&D
Yeah they're really helpful for DM to set up and remember things for virtual games
am I crazy or is this announcement different than the original one somehow?
also, here to reiterate my hope for the ability to template this sort of things so my playgroup can experience Rusty Lake, since none of them like the point and click style apparently
Curious what you mean with templating in this context
oh, so in ttrpgs like DND, they usually have a template you can follow, it's not usually spelt out, but like, specific language they use, or the way a specific module describes the world around the players can be replicated such that you could change the context of the scene to whatever, while still retaining the feeling of an official product
it's like looking at a cake, and figuring out what the recipe was, then changing it from chocolate to vanilla cake
Ah interesting, not sure if I can comment on that further
but I appreciate the answer!
i don't blame you for not being able to lol, secrets must be kept
They are kind of a ready to play scenario for lazy GMs😉
But i like to set up my games fully personalized so the game is my narration art not others
and that's cool, but that doesn't make running something like curse of strahd lazy
Yeah i told that as a joke
alright then
Let's hope for a table with Albert
That's not likely though
what do you mean "table with Albert"
I really meant "with Albert" or maybe the corrupted soul
oh like a scene with him
eh, I'm not picky, I'm more just excited to run it, no matter what the content is, RL devs know what's good
He is my fav , Cuz he's the craziest man I ever seen he literally killed his bro and made a child with his wife. That's THE perfect villain
eh, I've seen better villains, Albert is just kind of a S-Tier psychopath who really wanted to be reborn
besides, there isn't really traditional villains in Rusty Lake, it's more so a story that's already done, it feels less like you're progressing the story, and more like you're watching it unfold.
I agree 👍 the rusty lakes narration is sth special I've never seen in a puzzle game just remember our blindness in cube escape series
it's a good villain
the storytelling makes it shine
but, it's not on my favorites
simple as that
Is this where the box was in?
Hey everyone, I just wanted to ask real quick if the game will be available in other languages than just English, specifically German. Would be a shame if it wasn't. Happy Pride!
I have a question
Is there a way to play this game with someone else online?
I do not have any friends interested in tabletop games other than chess and monopoly..
So I do not know how to play this game with someone
When I played the past within I had a friend that I convinced to play a multiplayer game, but I don't know if I'll be able to with this one
You don't need to connect the games together, you just both have to own the game. The instructions when you start the game will make sure your progress is synchronized
Yes you'll be able to play the ttrpg online
We'll probably have an explanation for how in the server, somewhere, at some point.
Sorry I can't answer that at this time.
Sorry but what does the acronym stand for?
TableTop Roleplaying Game
I'm not sure if we understand eachother correctly.
so first things first; The Lab Isn't going to be a videogame
Because I think I can find someone who is tabletop crazed willing to play the free version online. But not so sure if it's going to be the same for the others..
well The Lab in its entirety will be free.
I understand that
But there are cards that are required to be installed or downloaded digitally no?
Yeah you'll need to download and or print a PDF.
That's the lab.. Not the unannounced premium
I'm not sure the difference matters.
Wouldn't you need to pay dor the premium?
Yes, but I don't see how that's an issue
I think I should ask another question
Do all participants have to have the PDF installed or only the DM of the game?
Because if it's the latter then only I have to acquire the premium version and the rest can play for free right?
Oh okay!
So in other words
I can pay for one premium and up to four of us can play online right?
5, 1 GM 4 players.
Oh okay!
That's even better!
But uh
Doesn't that mean the GM already knows how the puzzles will work? It feels like one of us will get spoilered...
Yes, that's correct.
That's just something you'll need to be okay with as a game master.
Then I will need to play it before becoming game master
That'd be an option, yes.
I don't want to pry into server business but will there be game master/participant voice channels and roles similar to the channels for future and past players for the past within?
we will probably be setting up architecture like that, yes.
anytime:)
Check the pinned message!:)
Oh sorry thanksss
I understand how to play
But like is it a physical board game or like online on discord
Sorry im confused
Both.
You can print it out (which we definitely recommend!) but you can also play online
We'll have more info on the hows later
It's not out yet
You'll need to keep an Eye on #📯|rl-announcements to figure that out!
'course! Np
Thanks for the kind words! me too:)

I have a question will all the adventures be part of the story of the other games or will they just be for fun?
You'll have to find out!
which is good because besides liking the other games, I love how they connect some to the past and others to the future
We got Rusty Lake Tabletop game before Gta 6
I've never played a tabletop before I love the fact that rusty lake'll be my first :D
a good first choice!
woah fr?
Check out #📯|rl-announcements !
That's so cool
I agree!
Humm, observation room maybe a good choice, we can see where we are or find out something outside
damy im not being rude if it sounds like it does, but what role do you play in the rusty lake franchise? you have a custom rusty lake esque pfp so im assuming your important
I'm employed as a Junior Community Manager.
I think useful items might be stored in the locker room
But I voted Observation room anyways

but locker room could give up more items to work with later !
it's so interesting to see how the votes unfold in real time!
it would be really cool if the Lab continued in this format, like those youtube mini games where depending on your choice it redirects you to another video with that choice etc, it would be neat
unfold ? more like untold
sorry [;-;]
no that's a good pun LOL
lmao
Yeah
i am SO excited for this it already looks so so amazing
Wait, is it the locker room for male or female?
personally I picked the locker room, just seems like the most rational thing to do
probably both
I chose locker room because it sounds safer. like there won't be other people there and will allow incospicuous investigating. observation room sounds crowded
I picked the observation room
Shadow
I've never seen a locker room like this before
i assume it was less like a dressing locker room and more like. just a place for scientists to put their stuff in lockers . therefore no need for male or female rooms
Maybe
Besides, do you think the main character is who?
i'm scared the observation room will have a corrupted soul in it and you die immediately NJFKRESJN
Oh god imagine
A new one or someone we've known
i'm thinking we're a scientist - white coat
As it is a game for 4 players, I think our player will be "unknown"/ourselves
oooo it would be interesting either way. Imagine you're playing and then it's revealed that YOURE playing as an already known character
oooo good point good point
yeah exactly, the locker room is the safest room in a horror movie ( aside from the locker jumpscare ) while an observation room seems like the center of attention, I say locker room
Do you think it's the hospital in white room 👀
quickly correcting this to 1 GM and upto 4 players
it could be 👀 we did have a white coat so we could perhaps be a staff member
the only thing I am worried about in the locker room is like.... what if we don't have keys to any lockers? Perhaps someone left their key in the observation room and therefore it would be smarter to go there first
4 players 👀
Damn, I don't have much friends to play with
is there a minimum amount of players?
Yes, 1.
good to know !!!!
so 1 GM and 1 player, 2 PEOPLE minimum
I think its both
Like both rooms have solution/keys to another
(the roles matter in this case)
so I could definitely do that with my partner and maybe one separate friend. Might be fun to gm
good point good point
do we have any ballpark ideas on the timing of the Part 2 or subsequent parts? I want to stay involved but don't want to stare at Discord all day. because I totally will!
I'm sooo excited
well it does say the poll closes in 2 days so i assume sometime after that
You'll be notified with a ping when the new part pops up
So it's kinda same with the tpw
I think tomorrow, after 2 days or 1 week
2 players
you guys are great, thank you
Kind of! I really would encourage playing in a group
but 2 is the minimum
In playtesting it's been a lot of fun to see a group figure things out and be social:)
I'm not quite good at English speaking skills. Maybe I'll look for someone can speak Vietnamese
I don't have a lot of rusty lake friends but maybe I could use this as an opportunity to convince one or two of them to get into the series ....
Definitely worth trying!
Perhaps ask your friends? we'll also probably have a space here on the server where you can find a group so you can try finding vietnamese people that way too
I don't have much rl friends.
I mean, even if they don't like rusty lake it could be a fun general tabletop game I assume
that's why the server's here ! 300k people who, hopefully, love rusty lake !!
Btw, thanks for the idea
Imagine timetravelling in real life while playin the new game
Well, think about the opposite. The window in the observation room can be locked and the key is in the locker room
hopefully it's not a thing where you can't go back to the locker room if you go to the observation room or vice versa
sooo many possibilities!!! i can't wait until we get more information
Yep yep
I hope that they can let us go back
exactly what I'm trying to do too
That kind of looks a bit like Sarah from The White Door...
I'm very excited to see where this goes
ooooooh I love it!!!!
my bet is that the observation room will be better
we have a coin, matches and a briefcase
so going to a puzzle room seems to be the best option
I voted for the observation room as well, mostly because it sounds more interesting, "locker room" sounds a bit boring
buta locker room has lockers, with a lot of codes and stuff, probably
that's the problem
we may need more stuff before going there
fair actually
The poll is going to close in 1 minute, so it looks like it's going to be the Observation Room in the next part.
Keep in mind we may decide on a result before the poll closes (although in this case it didn't quite matter bc the observation room was always in the lead lol)
I cant think how the soul would use the coin in this moment
Neither the card or the briefcase
I thought of the soul liting up something with the matches, maybe its face?
Or using them to show us a solution for a puzzle
/|_/
Like this
But with matches
I can also see the soul making some kind of magic trick with the coin (???)
Or showing something specific in the keycard, like an important information
Idk
I'm going with the matches, since they've always seemed to be the most useful item
And I feel like the coin and the key card might be used for later
oh dear this is the second poll where the win is unanimous, I wonder if it'll change before poll's over
on twitter it was 49/51 last poll
in favor of observation room?
yes
They're always having the coin related with eyes lol
They're focusing a LOT on the eyes, so the coin is the safest bet
Next poll will be to heads or tails
”StAyInG aLiVe TiLl ThE nExT pArT? 1 cOiN, pLeAsE!"!
under #📯|rl-announcements
try closing and reopening the app, maybe.
I get no issue on viewing the video few minutes ago
It doesnt work
I even tried to download it but it doesnt work either
that's weird.. perhaps you can watch the video on twitter? https://x.com/rustylakecom/status/1801625458317951134?s=46&t=8mQTP-l7c1daMhbePXayZw

🪙
I don't know what the soul could do with the matches
And with coin, it can do some magic or trade for us something useful
arson 🔥 🔥 i would give him the least dangerous thing like a coin
with the keycard he can get somewhere important with the matches he can light something up with the coin he can call a mental health facility
Hi I have a question. Will this be like a table game, like to play in person?
Yes, I think so
Yeah that is correct @whole forum
The first adventure will be a free document you can download (and print)
Be sure to keep your eyes on #📯|rl-announcements for more news and announcements:)
(or just let me know if you have any more questions, can't promise I have answers to all of them, though.)
А по русски можно?
Same, I asked a friend to record his screen; to record the video and at worked
strange that it didn't function!
always keep your discord up to date. I've also noticed that if you just reopen the app sometimes it fixes it.
(and as others have pointed out, the videos are also on other socials)
doesn't work for me
Odd!
@ivory monolith did you try watching it here instead? It worked for someone else with that problem
No, I don't need to
oh sorry i missed the bit where you said your friend recorded it for you
No problem
in future you can try watching them on twitter if it happens again though
Okay
We probably need to give the corrupted soul the coin. It reminds me of (spoilers) || The scene in the past within when you have to put the coins on Albert’s eyes ||
i was partly right 😭
50% psychic
Black liquids scare me. They feel so unnatural
Lol me too! But I'd call that a dark brown
Black just feels like it's hiding something. Like anything at all could be hiding in that used oil drum, or whatever
i agree
I’m going with the dark liquid, because it sounds more interesting than the clear liquid
I feel like it’s more likely to accomplish something
look it's impossible considering rusty lake but maybe the clear liquid us water
I am dark fluid team (coca cola), and because I like more the dark cube than the white cube
the bottle is actually empty-
I was hoping it was vodka lol
u raise a good point lol
The dark liquid is probably goin to win, but I wonder what would happen if we choose the clear one
DARK LIQUID GUYS!
Also, I feel like we are Albert
idk i still remember being in a white coat in the first part
The silllouete is similar to him
But he is probably the corruptef soul, right?
So yeah, nvm
I feel like dark liquid will somehow cause us to be corrupted
Yeah the seen is so similar to past within room
And that the white will free us? Idk
I mean, we don't HAVE to drink the liquid. Right? Right?
'good point!
I am 70% sure both liquids will lead to visions
Nah, what sortof escape room protagonist are we if we don't drink suspicious liquids in vials? /j
Yeah, proceeds to throw it away from the window
hopefully there's a world in which we're not forced or compelled to drink the mysterious liquid
actually tha does defeat the escape room purpose tho LOL
I knew my comment was false even as I was typing it
What about the 30%?
what if those liquid can turn into cubes
The 30% is uhhhhh
Fair
we die?
wait no there's a 0.5% chance it does nothing
Take both + blue liquid and we will get golden liquid
10% we die 10% we live 10% we stay the same
I dont think death is an option in this game
What's stopping us to unlock both boxes?
Oh wait I forgot this is Rusty lake: 29.5 we die, 0.05 we live, 0.05 we stay the same
Yeah probably
We need to restart and get all achievements
So accurate
GUYS, HEAR ME OUT, i think it's the White liquid!
Did you guys pay attention to how the video focus on bright stuff? Maybe that's the direction they want us to follow!
What do we think the numbers mean? Just that they are inverses of each other?
Im pretty sure there are no correct answers
I was onto somthing, || The corrupted soul laid on a coffin just like albert in tpw ||
All options continue the story
blend the card to open both /j
Chances of survival
that would break the RFID!!!
actually wait why can't we just use the card on both?
What if there is and we just got all right?
Because this is rusty lake, the card will disappear from the inventory

Plot twist, it's a shredder not a keycard slot
fair
is it a paper keycard
lol
if so it's dying
If so, it is a fake keycard
In the previous part the corrupted soul's eyes were ”BURNING with anticipation”; with your logic we would be already wrong by not handing the matches.
Big brain time
WHAT IF
Giving all the “wrong things” comes to like a wrong end or a dead end where we cannot continue
They wouldnt do that
hold down the reset button while you take the cartridge out
I think nothing happens or it just takes us to another place
I'm betting that at the end of this little demo we will have the 6-digit code to open our briefcase made out of the numbers we collect by our choices. For now we have 3 and 9 or 6.
How want play with me
Yeah, probably not

We literally gave a coin to the soul and we went to another room, where we lost the briefcase, kinda used the matches (Still have tho) and now are forced to use the keycard (All 4 items that were in the poll)
You can ask in #🔍|tpw-looking-for-player
Don't forget it said "test room 04" in the previous video
So we are kinda being forced to use all items
GOOD EYE. Here's where It was missing!!!!
i wonder what was in our briefcase as well
If we had chosen the briefcase or keycard, almost the same thing would have happen
Which means all options continue the story and theres no "wrong/bad ending"
I wonder what it might have
team black ⬛
I dont think there is a "bad ending" like getting killed, but I think there may be various endings to the story
The worst part is that we are only capable of seeing one
This is like a “teaser” for the full version
Yea, kinda
I guess we'll know whether it's 9 or 6 based on what people choose
How would we put the code tho?
beats me. we'd have to it back. also it could be both the 9 and the 6 depending on how many other numbers we encounter
Like, its not a digital game with easter eggs as we are used to
same with "4" or "04"
then it could also be both 2 and 3, based on the elevator buttons
Unless we put the code in the site to get a secret ;)
can anyone link me to the video? It's bugging out discord side
maybe a discord poll with 1 million options to vote on. one for each number combo
Lmao
I think that's probably right. it could be what determines which ending we get, assuming there are more than one
Right, I think we'll somehow open the briefcase in the last part, with the code we get in the previous ones
,

the black liquid
