The current developers modified the Alamein map by adding trees and Mayan ruins and removing almost all open spaces to provide much more cover and thus satisfy the complaints of casual players, who play this game in the same way as Call of Duty.
This was a serious mistake, as the Alamein map lost all its realism and personality.
What was the war in the desert like?
- They were vast desert plains with few elevations.
- There were virtually no trees or vegetation.
How did infantry units advance without being destroyed?
- Attack formation: Tanks and artillery moved alongside the infantry, providing a mobile defense force and firepower to counter enemy threats.
- Artillery support: Heavy artillery bombardment often preceded any infantry advance, destroying enemy defenses, undermining morale, and providing a smokescreen to cover troop movements.
- Nights and sandstorms: Infantry operations were often planned at night, when visibility was limited. Sandstorms, although dangerous, could also be used to mask large troop movements.
- Covered advance: Infantry units often advanced on foot, taking advantage of the movements of large motorized columns, including tanks and transport trucks. The dust kicked up by these massive vehicles created a veil that concealed the soldiers' movements.
