Just updated Cockatrice for the first time in a year or so. I went to Deck Editor > Load Deck and the file is empty. Does updating Cockatrice wipe that folder?

It does not normally unless you specifically checkmark the option to delete decks, its possible you installed to a different location and the "default" deck folder location changed.

I don't recall selecting that option. I checked my drives for an older version of cockatrice and couldn't find it
does cocaktrice ever call itself something else when creating folders? maybe i'm missing it

You could search your hard drive for .cod, thatll find any deck files

Unfortunately no dice. I must've deleted it when I updated cockatrice. Kind of a bummer but it is what it is

if you are installing in portable mode make sure to select a separate location from the old version, you can then copy over the "data" folder from the old one to the new one to keep your decks and settings

I don't believe I installed it in portable mode? I updated to 2.10.2 through Help > Check for client updates, if I remember correctly

ok, then that doesn't apply to you
make sure not to check remove data when running the uninstaller as part of your new installation
as long as you don't check that box you'll keep all your decks and settings
