The game could probably have a way to judge a ship via criterias, for example,
speed in each direction,
is power consumed around the same as power produced,
is dps good for the price/weapon choice,
is crew capacity ~ 90% of the editor recommendation,
how much firing time does the ammo in storage afford,
is there any critical parts (reactors, cockpits) next to an empty tile (penalty),
how close to a reactor are shields (if a shield is very far away from a reactor,
you might get 3k out of it, but if it's right next to a reactor, you might get 9k instead),
are you using larger reactors instead of smaller ones when available,
does the ship feature an hyperdrive (if not, won't buy)...

I think an "easy" initial sell value should just be raw material value, but then yeah adding more advanced criteria to judge your design later would be awesome
