In my opinion the current version is very clashing if you want your ship to be painted, its very hard on pushing your painting to work around the heat pipes instead of the other way around
Making it be roof-paintable changes it very little, it's still easy to tell where it is, but doesn't make the ship covered in copper linings.

This is a fantastic suggestion - the heatpipes being so visible is especially bad for ships like the imperium's where focus is put onto angles and not just 90 degree corners everywhere
