Concept: Enemy Base weapons get larger Base-specific versions that allow for much longer range (perhaps at an accuracy penalty for far out) that allow them to remain competitive (and in range) of players with super long range weapons.

Currently (we are playing MP) if one of your glass cannons just goes with a super long range weapon, well the Base might as well have got 2 more defender ships rather than bothering with Base weapons.

At some point there's supposed to be a range buff to stationary or close to stationary entities, which would primarily effect stations and defense platforms

so you can park a ship and use it’s rail gun like a sniper?

Another idea is to have the Bases get much better shielding, so you just wouldn't be able to snipe fast enough to get through without coming in to disable those shields with your close-range punch ships

Alternatively place significantly more asteroids nearby to prevent any direct lines of fire if you're not close up
