#ship avoidance broken?

about a week ago my ships were navigating just fine, avoiding the asteroids and other debris in their path. now my bigger ship seems to keep hitting asteroids and instead of bouncing off of them push them around for quite some time before 'disengaging' from them. Switching to manual navigation doesn't help get out of the problem.

well that one i managed to get out of it with manual nav, but its still annoying when the rest of the fleet is ready to engage but this guy is stuck 😦

First thing I'd do is make sure that you still have collision avoidance enabled by default.
Aside from that, if you can find scenarios where ships run into asteroids with collision avoidance enabled that'd be helpful. Right now there's a bug that makes it much harder for the collision avoidance AI to free itself from an asteroid once it runs into one, but running into one in the first place still shouldn't happen. Note that generally ships with less thrust/primarily monodirectional thrust like the one in your screenshot have the most trouble avoiding stuff since they're the least agile.

true, i did add more thrust and it seems to help, however when i went to back up the back thrusters kept firing instead of just the front ones firing. Maybe i'll try firing them manually next time

i'm also wondering, is there a way to test ships in the campaign to see if they are lopsided or don't steer correctly? or is there something that shows the moments (ie pivot points) for the engines?
