Whether it’s not having enough storage space in our ships, not caring enough to salvage, or just feeling cool by leaving a mess behind, all systems an average cosmoteer player visits will be riddled with space junk. Of course, these items all despawn after some time after not being picked up, but I had an idea that would perhaps make the game feel more “alive”. Despite factions having hundreds of ships and plenty of stations to supply them. We never actually see where these resources come from. Sure, we see traders pop in with some shiny new valuables but we know they didn’t mine or salvage those themselves. We hear stories of ship graveyards and asteroid fields being held up by pirates, but what good does it do them if nobody but the players actually shows up for them to rob? I think large, low threat heavily armored mining ships are a fantastic way to clean up the solar system while the player is present and add some new mission opportunities while at it. Here’s a scenario: you’ve just killed a mid sized ship, so you strip it if it’s valuable parts and leave the husk behind, as you don’t want all that worthless steel in your inventory. 5 minutes after you leave, a large ship from a nearby warp station flys in, breaks down the rest of the ship, and picks up any items left around the site before packing up and either heading to another wreck in the system, or returning to a station to offload it’s haul before warping out of the system. You could also have ships that do a similar thing but with the husks in ship graveyards and asteroid fields, but that would mean that they have to respawn so that they don’t eat up everything. Factions that control the system probably wouldn’t be fond of other factions claiming wrecks in the area, so there could be quests to hunt down and destroy any unauthorized ship breakers in the system. I just thought of this, so tell me what you guys think.

Honestly the current freighters could easily be tweaked to do this, the issue'd just be setting up the AI behavior. Only thing I would add is a longer delay than five minuts and military escorts for said freighters
