I think the damage-to-health ratio is at exactly where it should be now. The thing I was always complaining about is the ratio in other space games, in which ships punch each other back and forth ,taking hits like medieval sailboat take cannonballs. This, in my opinion, completely eliminates the sense of modern-ness, let alone science-fiction.

I'm talking about that smaller ships really should just take out a poorly defended enemy with just a few shots onto a weak point on the hull, this makes the game more hardcore and differs a lot from all other similar games. No need to buff hull at all, increase combat range and reduce hit rate instead is a better option.

We could boost weapon range by 2x and let ships fight at 2x the distance, significantly increasing the importance of tactics and maneuvering to dodge shots. This means in a battle, two ships could dance with each other, firing while dodging shells and blocking a few with shields. Few of the shots fired actually land on the hull of enemy ship bot each one that do will be very impactful, In the process, the ship with superior design and piloting will finally succeed, crippling her enemy with hits onto the hull, until finally she's confident enough to move in, land an entire salvo and wipe her enemy out of existence. Just like WW2 battleships, or knights dueling, or really just all the combats I can think of.
None of the battle in my knowledge would only take the form of two foes beating each other's body face to face until one of them falls down, besides boxing, in which that is the entire point.

Additionally, I think its fine for shields to be the more important thing over armor since it's active defense while armor is passive. It's perfectly fine for armor to be just a complementary piece to shields. A crucial one of course, since pure shield without armor is still worthless, just like pure armor without shields. It also make technical sense because armors are just steel. Not even titanium or iridium...

unless this plans on buffing all weapon speed dramatically, this would preserve the railgun meta and make it even . more dramatic. lmao

it would make instashot/fast ranged weapons stronger and cannons and all alphastrike stuff (longer, slower battles means they lose lots of their burst power) weaker
