@trim kestrel @safe marsh the reason that a force countdown doesn't work, primarily, is that it is exploitable. I'll provide an example.

Me and Qawa vs Nugg and Salephz was a bad situation, we couldn't realistically deal with the rail orbiter plus whatever it was paired to. Ergo, if we just refuse to ready up eventually the force start will be used, and we can switch at the last second to something that counters that specific pair. This breaks the spirit of the competition, in my mind, as it forces the opponent into an undesirable matchup by wasting time.

Now you could make arguments that taking forever is just as cringe, but the thing is when a match is ready through such means it's consensual to everyone, they agreed and are prepared to deal with whatever their opponent fielded. For reference, I would argue turning previews off is better because at the very least it makes the chance of hardcounter random, rather than the waiting team specifically picking ships that'll dissect their opponents.

Even then however if you know for sure you'll lose, turning it into a coin flip with previews off isn't really great either

And the obvious question that I think needs to be asked is should laggy players be barred from entry?

These players singlehandedly prolong games, much less the sets, to absolutely ridiculous lengths. The losers bracket went two hours past it's expected end date. Barring these players from entry would significantly save on time, lead to more interesting matches as they're not slide shows, and a more fun experience for the other participants. However, barring them from entry obviously comes at the cost of them not being able to participate, which is a huge downside when the competitive community is supposed to be founded upon inclusivity

@safe marsh @trim kestrel At some point earlier in this tournament's commentary I think one of you mentioned that I piloted the Project Sundial explosion gun primarily using WASD autofire control. I did not, I used strafe commands except for some emergency dodges vs. Enoshade's rail spinner. The only other tournament ships I used WASD autofire with were the Kitty Hawk (March 2019) and the No Step On Snek (April 2019), and after the Kitty Hawk failed completely due to lag and thruster rampup massively compounding my piloting errors I deliberately built the No Step On Snek with boost thrusters so that it would be easier to pilot via WASD autofire while also being pilotable with RTS. I mostly used RTS with it, except for a few rams vs. Archduke and Enoshade.

Tournaments having requirements (i.e. not running on a potato) similar to the other requirements isn't unfair to entrants. Their lag wastes event time, participant time, viewer time, etc. Inclusivity matters, but so does event quality. I've ran into players so laggy that I've had to dodge lobbies with them before, it's even more agonizing to watch as a viewer.

Whilst you might be able to 1v1 people well, you might not be particularly good at tackling 2 players at once or helping your teammate (Or getting help from then) to taking them down individually or gang up on them.

2v2 splits into four branches then, a 2v2 (one player fights the other individually in both cases), a 1v2, a 2v1 and a 1v1 (in a 2v2 duels scenario both players drove each other to destruction and only single players on each team remain).

Might be too much work and require too much versatility for some and can be discouraging for a lot more.

Avoiders are incredibly micro heavy and typically require a ton of babysitting, and if you want them to at their max effectiveness requires direct control. That's not a great attribute when considering domination

not to mention the need for agility that comes with vulnerable backs, which is usually not great in dom

Though in 2v2 if your partner were to handle literally everything else... not necessarily the worst idea

I'd hazard a guess that it's completely infeasible in a 1v1 scenario though

likely won't work in a 2v2 scenario either

• credit sharing isn't on which leads to unused credits (although i don't mind that setting it's cool)
• even if it were on, the avoider would easily be flanked or zoned away from the points

Well if piloted properly in a low income environment it'd completely shred individual ships and bleed out opponents

i'd argue it'd do even worse in a low income environment. similar to how in chess, the win condition is checkmate, not amount of pieces captured, domination is different from elim in that dying doesn't necessarily dictate winning or losing due to point control being the win condition.

two scenarios immediately come to mind

• defend a single point vigorously, in which the opponent wins by the timer due to having more points
• seek out points, in which ships will run and capture your points

i suppose an avoider could be used in place of a wall or something but overall it's just too difficult to micro well while defending and zoning

Also you cant build avoider to be cheap enough and have enough spped, fire rate and shields to dont be destroyed by a single shoot

He wasn't crystal, even tho i remember situations when he acted fair and with good manner, sometimes with harsh words but still. Ofc not "fame hall of being kind" but some peoples says he's ok and some just hate him way more than deserves, must be some factor..

Regardless, he did and saw a lot by hosting dom everyday for hours over more than year, beats everyone at his best times, and knows/reads game very good .. maybe except some old well known legends like V.

Yeah at first did hate him lol. He did not like me, But after some time i think i earned his respect and he also earned mine. And even at my best he'd win one id win one he'd two id win two and that was only a few month before new cosmo wen i was at my best for a long time he will wreck me ether way, yes even then id win from time to time but no one was quite like him

he was an okay player, i've beaten him a fair amount before my prime. enough to be expert skill level though
