think there's very little benefit and a lot of room for abuse either way in tournaments. Recognising ship.pngs is an important skill of its own, and editing them even slightly could be argued to unfairly affect a team's choices

cosmoteer doesn't have servers directly running the physics, it's peer to peer I believe. But it will be hosted by two people who live in the US (definitely goes for saris, not sure about IvI)
we have done this for years and people from across the world have participated without issues, some connection lag if someone from Oceania joins tho
a bigger issue is honestly individual player performance, if someone joins on a toaster it will slow down the game to the same speed for the other player.

Yes Saris decided to have a roster of three ships for any given player that needs to be submitted and can not be changed, but you can easily surf past that rule by grabbing three of the most effective archetypes that can reliably counter as many ships as possible individually.

Knowing all the ins and outs of how this game's logistics and crew pathing and what not works is indeed an impressive skill, but I view tournaments more like the player's actual playing and piloting skills.
It you make a ship so good with your exceptional ship building skill that you can reliably use to crush enemies even with your subpar piloting skills doesn't really seem that epic of a tournament in my opinion.
...But that won't happen anytime soon.

Losing control like that was pretty frustrating and will probably haunt me for awhile, but I’m happy for the winners and glad everyone had a good time. Hopefully, there is something saved in the mp that will provide enough info to squish that particular bug.

never seen that bug, the bad one I used to get a lot was directional keys being stuck in game (I think it had something to do with the asynchronous key detection processes in the game freezing)

See, no matter what I do to have a reasonable amount of matches requires truly absurd run times. Five hours isn't sustainable, I want a maximum of four. Thus, to both allow more matches and to allow for a longer total runtime the bracket will be split into two sections, one per each day
This has been a solution I've known of and been considering for a long time, and comes at the downsides of being less accessible (because you clear not one but two days) and demands more of participants and the other people who help me actually run the tournament
