why cant I merge the cubes into 1

just why do you need to combine 2 or more cubes into one? If necessary, just press X and connect the same dots
if you need for example in modded entity get "middle" size where need some 1.5, but you can do only 1 or 2, then it's need to do - merge with textures and faces superimposed - drag the second element to the first one
