#Mirror Modelling is duplicating a mesh tenfold

I am trying to remodel some legs for a character I was working on, but whenever I use the mirror modeling it shows that I'm already selected on either a rotation or movement axis, and duplicates the mesh into the most recent folder in the mesh list. I can't describe it that well however I have linked a video to show my problem
