#Split edge

The highlighted face and the horizontally adjacent one are connected via the edge highlighted in red. How can I split this edge and free these two faces from eachother? Knife tool from vertex to vertex didn't work.

Meshes are by default connected. If you want to disconnect a face, you can select the face, press Ctrl + C to copy, delete the face, then press Ctrl + V and select Mesh Selection to paste it again as a separate part

Is not the best but what you could do is edge loop at a close range, then use the knife tool to cut a face in a diagonal way and then dissolve the rest of the extra edges made by the edge loop
