Hello guys, I am a non-coder who is helping a guy make a mod with custom weapons, and I am pretty decent at art and building. I have no coding experience whatsoever and was told that blockbench was a great way to make custom models for items so I downloaded it, and now I am so confused... Sorry to say this but I cannot use youtube for personal reasons that I don't really want to share but I fear that it may be the only way to learn how to use this interface

I thought that it would be like making pixel art but in 3d form, almost like building in minecraft but you can edit the voxels
It's not a voxel editor, no. Minecraft isn't optimized to handle voxel models either.
You create cubes, move/resize/rotate them as you see fit and rinse and repeat.
Then you create a texture and draw on the model.
And if you want default-like items (so just an extruded model based on a texture) you just make a texture and tell Minecraft to generate a model from it, no need for Blockbench there.
ok thanks, im actually starting to get the hang of it
it is so complex
Im making Japanese weapons for the mod
so i cant use default textures to make these weapons because some of these weapons need to have bigger sizes than other items
You can still use the process of turning a texture into a model and just make it scale larger in the display settings if you meant that by "using default textures".
But yeah, usually people make custom textures for custom models
-# (unless they particularly need to be a default texture, like when making something like a spruce plank wall etc.)
that sounds cool, but at then end i also wanted to make a netherite-samurai armor
that has parts sticking out and everything
i think making 3d weapons is just cooler too
i understand the general concept though now, sorry for impulsively making this post but i think can do some of the basics now
