keyboard/mouse inputs randomly not registering

hi there, i wasn't sure which help channel this should go in but i'm working on mc java textures. what it says in the title. for example, sometimes i'll hit ctrl+s and blockbench will suddenly not save the image even if it worked literally 30 seconds before. if i reopen the exact same file the next day it will work fine... but i'll open a different image and suddenly it doesn't recognize ctrl+s either (or ctrl+z, or clicking outside of a selected area to deselect (which i do have enabled in preferences), etc). it's not my keyboard/mouse dying bc this doesn't happen in any other program. can't find anyone else with this problem. any ideas?
